Fools Lament III (modded) - Started, v2.15!

3rd in the series recruiting now! Should be a corker!

Details:
www.soapyfrog.net/dom2/foolslament3.htm

The intent of this mod is to enhance armies, both magical and mundane and to reduce the role of the super combatant. This mod also attempts to address some of the spells that considered by many to be highly efficient. It also reduces the effectiveness of some of the hoarding strategies which are commonly employed.

We're playing on the Peter Ebbesen modded Wars of Orania "Nasty Edition" map, with some slight modfications. We are shooting for a full house for maximum carnage... failing that excess slots will be filled with moderate or hard AI depending on how many.

Game Settings:

Indep Strength: 9
Research: very hard
Magic Site Freq: 50
Hall of Fame: 15
Graphs: off
Renaming: allowed
Victory: Standard

I want to try graphs off to see how it affects the political dynamic and reward diligent scouting. We'll be playing with a little less gem sites than the Last one, but the house restrictions we used are now dropped, in favour of the mod which should seriously curtail hoarding.

Current Player List:

Jotunheim - Soapyfrog
Pangaea - Nappa
Man - baboune
Tien Chi - Legacyspy
Ermor - anatoli11
Acrosephele - rex_havok
Marignon - Crash
Caelum - odd_enuf
Abysia - Jurri
Ulm - Knudsen
Pythium - Cohen
Mictlan - Bluebird
Ryleh - ckfnpku
Vanheim - Yossar
Matchaka - The Panther
Ctis - Jarkko
Atlantis - Reverend Zombie

Full House!

*** Note: Dec. 7th 2004 ***

I have updated the test mod to include Zen's latest changes to the spell and pretender conceptual balance mods.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

I have claimed Jotunheim. Nappa has claimed first dibs on Pangaea.

Remember when designing a pretender you must enable the correct mod in your preferences.

Please claim your spot in this thread before uploading, and DO NOT hit "Start Game" after uploading! Thank you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I would like to try Marignon if that nation is still available.

Thanks,
Crash.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

is this PBM or on a server?
if it's on a server i'll take caelum

also, a couple other things, on the versin of ONE your using, as much as i like htat map there are a couple of problems with it, first with ulm, if you take iron faith or black forest you lose of the magic sites in ulm's capital, with man, the hama drayad man starts with has no home province, so it dies in 3 turns. Finally, i don't htink its possible to modify the spell research.
As for the mod, i couldn't dl it from the site listed

Jurri December 6th, 2004 06:45 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

One might also note that with the mod Pangaea has an additional 5 nature gem income via the treelord and Mictlan an additional 3 blood slaves income via the FoB.

Anyway, I might try Atlantis.

Knudsen December 6th, 2004 08:54 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

I'd like to give Ulm a shot, if you are still recruiting

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

odd_enuf: it's on a server. Regarding the mod download it works fine for me, what is the problem you are having?

The spell research is modifiable... I made a slight modification to the scenario file which lets me set the scenario params.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

one other little thing w/ the scenario; Pangaia has a bonus site in it's capital which hits undead w/ holy fire...

not so great if you are playing carrion woods http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Remind me how I install the mod, and enable it to create my pretender?

Soapyfrog December 6th, 2004 11:15 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Put the file Faeruntest.dm in your mods folder.

When you start Dom2, got to "preferences" and then "mod preferences" and enable the mod.

Then you can make and upload your pretender. After that, you do not need to enable the mod each time you start Dom2, Dom2 will know that the mod is required when connecting to the game.

yiks.... i just left r'yhea because you were next door (atually i left because i am to inexperienced in the water). and now you are way to close http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif i debated long and hard(at lest 10mins) Arco or Abysia and i decided i will just kill Abysia and take thier construction site instead. i know you are seriosly experienced and all but you are claming the steel oven that i want. you will just have to give them up or it might lead to open warfare. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

If you are playing a variant theme with more buildings in the capital than the default theme, it might. Easist way to find out is to make a quick pretender and check.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

When are you planning on starting? My computer's power supply and/or motherboard died, so I'll have somewhat limited access for the next few days. But I could install the game on another computer.

Also I really wanted to try Carrion Woods but Pangaea is taken... Who's left? Atlantis, R'lyeh, Machaka, Mictlan, Ctis, and Vanheim. I've never done Machaka, Vanheim, or non-Miasma Ctis, so one of those might be interesting.

I'll think about it. Let me know when you want to start and don't worry about waiting for me.

Soapyfrog December 7th, 2004 02:43 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Recruiting slow, it seems, so its quite likely we wont start before the end of the week.

No huge rush. I am toying with the idea of integrating the latest changes from Zen's spellmod in any case.

Zapmeister December 7th, 2004 02:47 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading to the latest Version, downloading the map and the mod and signing up for this game, since 3 nations I'm sort-of familiar with (R'lyeh, Machaka, C'tis) are still up for grabs.

Don't wait for me, though, it's a lot of mucking around to get myself back up to speed in this game, and I may not get around to it.

Bluebird December 7th, 2004 01:22 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Hmm ... starting position for Vanheim is rather crappy. You think you can change me to Mictlan?

Soapyfrog December 7th, 2004 01:44 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Sure!

BTW, I have updated the test mod to include Zen's latest changes to the spell and pretender conceptual balance mods.

See www.soapyfrog.net/domw/foolslament3.htm for details. If you have already made and uplaoded a pretender, you will have to recreate him with the new mod file enabled.

Sorry for the disruption but gvien the improvement's to Zen's mod I think it's worth making the effort for.

ckfnpku December 7th, 2004 02:24 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Your starting provs besides your home prov can have random magic sites in addition to the starting ones, right (but no more than 4 sites total)?

odd_enuf December 7th, 2004 03:42 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

actually, the sites usually number 6-8, and while vanhiem's started positoin isnt' the best, they do have the ultimate gateway, 50% conjeration bonus

Vanheim has a 50% conjuration site, starts with Wyverns preresearched, is not entirely unlikely to snag a 25gem air queen or two, has several nifty special mage-recruitment sites, and can easily use their sailing ability to move between the various parts of the realm of the Vanir. What's not to like?*

Ok, you convinced me. I'm in as Vanheim. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I'll try to get the game installed and set up tonight.

That 50% conjuration site is so, so nice.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

I will claim Machaka. However, never having played the spiders before, I ask for time to work on a pretender before uploading.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Hmm. There is no Gift of Reason in the mod. Odd. I wouldn't have thought that was considered so overpowered that it was completely removed.

Also, no Wish, even though soapyfrog mentions it in conjunction with doom horrors.

ckfnpku December 8th, 2004 07:22 AM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

C'tis too. Though someone mentioned they might want that.

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Jarkko: Atlantis and Ctis still available! Sorry for the confusion.

Jarkko December 8th, 2004 12:53 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Well, both Ctis and Atlantis are nations I am not so familiar with, so either one would be nice http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Soapyfrog December 8th, 2004 12:57 PM

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

ckfnpku: Wish and Gift of Reason remain unchanged... any spell that is not explicitly mentioned in the mod file retains it's default cost/effects.

Jarkko: pick as you please! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: Fools Lament III (modded) - Recruiting Now!

Well that does make a lot of sense, without completely nerfing tartarian gate... I mean, tartarians are still awesome. And wonderfully cheap.

I guess there is not all that much else you would want to GoR except for doom horrors and with no wish...
