Simultanous movement question!

Hi all!
I'm currently playing playing an e-mail simultanous game with two friends of mine. So far there's been no war, but now I plan to conquer a neutral race which started near me. I've done simulator tests and as long as I don't put my ships in a fleet all is well( I capture their planet and the colony ship(!), destroy their ships without losing a single one ). As soon as I create a fleet my ships destroy the colony ship(I've tried many many strategies, get losses....all in all : it sucks!!!
Now my question: When I use the shift-key to order multiple ships to the same location, will they be going one by one or unified(like a fleet)?
Thanks

Well I will try I've not played an Email game yet and most the combat that I do I control, how ever when you pick more than 1 ship I found that the 1st move they move as a fleet then after on there own.

Hope this helps (you may already know what i just told you)

I having be playing two multi-player games so far and the guess that I have is that if you order them in they will go as a single ship.
They will move towards the planet one ship and space at a time until all movement has been expended.
Remember that you can only give one set of orders, "strategies", to a fleet. That's why in simulator you do so well. The fleet will either :move to max range or capture planet etc.
You can't do everything at once with a fleet.
Hope this helps you understand the combat system better.

Re: Simultanous movement question!

It depends on the ships' speeds. If you shift-select them and order them to move, they'll all move to the target at their individual maximum speeds. If their speeds are all the same, they'll all travel together, but slower ships will fall behind as the turn progresses.

Re: Simultanous movement question!

Mmmmhh, that means my transport ship would not be able to capture the planet(all my other ships have a mov of 8, the transport only 7). But that wouldn't be that bad. My main objective is to destroy their ships and capture their colony ship. The planet can wait for one more turn.
Thanks for your help !

Is there a possibility to destoy a single component on one of your own ships? If yes I would destroy one engine on the ships of my fleet....

I haven't tested this, but I think the fleet will stay together if you set the slowest ship as the fleet leader.

fleets stay together regardless of the fleet leader, that isn't what is at issue here,...

I was wondering what breaking formation has for effect on your problem with capturing a planet,...

This is not correct. If you select several ships with different speeds, ALL ships will move at the speed of the slowest ship (just like fleets do).

Is that true for the button which says send all ships to this location. That was the orignal question?

Oops, I was thinking of Formations in Tactical Combat, not Fleets.

Or maybe I just wasn't thinking at all. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Not on my computer. I just ran a test in simultaneous mode. I build a speed 4 ship and a speed 6 ship, selected them both with shift - click, and gave them orders to move. They each moved their own full speed, the speed 4 ship falling behind by 2 sectors.

I would add though, that it is possible to make a "capture planet" strategy with the first movement strategy to capture planets, and the secondary movement strategy to optimal range (or whatever), to get the transports to land troops, and the warships in the same fleet to do whatever you want them to do.

Just tested this. You are both right.

It operates differently in turn-based versus simultaneous.

*sigh*
