Ok, I like a white Christmas and all, but...

We've already got around 15 inches down in the Last 36 hours and they are calling for as much as 10 more today. No mas! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I should have asked Santa for a snow blower this year.

About half a century ago we here in Holland had snow during this time of the year, but due to human progress we get snow during februari... if we're lucky. Most of the time the snow only falls for about two days. Pretty pathetic ain't it?

You guys just haven't lived until you shoveled 15 inches of snow off your driveway and halfway across the street to get your car out and go anywhere. I had shovel that far out into the street cause I live on a side street that doesnt' get plowed by the city until all the main ones do. Some volunteer with a pickup truck and a snow shovel came down our street, but he only made one pass. Had to dig out to there to move my car. Ugh, I really should get a snow blower. Of course we usually only get a snow bad enough to need one every couple years. Most of the snow we get isn't deep enough to need shoveling if you are lazy like me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Hey, it's an incentive (and means) to keep in shape during the dark months and not let the beerbelly grow. I spent more than an hour shoveling snow today.

Looks like I'm not going to have a white Christmas this year. It doesn't snow very much here, and I can only remember only having a few white Christmases ever.

Re: Ok, I like a white Christmas and all, but...

Done my share of shoveling snow. Worst I ever saw was in Boston in 1971. Snow drifts covered the windows of our barracks at Ft. Devens which means the drifts were at least 10 feet deep. As for regular depth, the "blizzard" left a bit less than 2 feet. I left that place in April and never saw the ground the whole time I was there...just snow.

As to "your" blizzard, its effects were far-reaching. It cost me an extra 2 and a half hours on the ground in Tampa, Florida because of other plane delays from it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif

Unless he lives in the Blue Mountains he wouldn't shovel snow...ever. We don't get snow except on mountains. I have a whacking great mountain right out my window and it usually has snow on it, but there has only been sea level snow twice in my lifetime (and I live in Tasmania which is the coldest state)

I'm Near Montreal here and yesterday we had Rain! So most of the snow in my little town has melted. it's a little icy, and the grass is still covered but the sidewalks and roads are pretty clear.

..and due to my mother being under the weather, the family has decided to do an emergency move of the Christmas super here to my house. That leaves me holding the turkey and the menu at the Last minute. Looks like it's going to be a long day. Oh well, I can sleep between xmas and new years I guess.

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Well down here in good 'ol Tidewater Virginia we got 0.0625 inches (one sixteenth of an inch) of snow woith two inch drifts!!! That was enogh to shut down all the schools for the day and to cause everyone to drive under thirty MPH. The amazing thing is that it actually snowed before christmas this year.

Well, anyone who lives in a snow area can appreciate this. Today I woke up and the city had got around to plowing our stree. DId a pretty good job of it actualy. I could see asphalt in spots. Of course that meant I got to dig out our driveway again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif And it wasn't the nice soft snow from yesterday, it was hardpacked and full of ice chunks the size of my head.

I remember snow... fluffy white stuff. We had it once about 10 years ago in February. First time in 50 years that Phoenix got measurable snow.

No snow today though. It's 43F at 10:30pm. High for Christmas should be about 57F.

The nice thing about AZ is that in Phoenix we don't have to deal with the snow, but if we want to go see snow we can usually go for about a two hour drive and find some. It is actually possible (if you are crazy enough) to water ski and snow ski in the same day.

I remember going to school when the snow was over a meter deep and we couldn't open the back door because of it despite having a fairly tall back deck.

I remember (and still do occaisionally http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif ) going to school when the temperature is below -40 degrees Celcius. By the way, -40 Celcius and Fahrenheit are the same thing. Now, I say "below" minus 40, because that's as low as the thermometer goes. Who knows how cold it really was!

Back in the late '80's, my dad was working as a logger up in Northern BC, around Fort Nelson. He remembers when the temperature was below -60 degrees Celcius, with a windchill of ~ -99 degrees. Now THAT is cold.

ah, I remember when I was a kid and had to walk 5 miles to school in the snow.. ah those were the days... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

We got over 16+ inches of the white stuff here do to the storm, I sympathize with AT, I had the same problem, except, my blower only did the top layer, since we also had freezing rain and sleet besides the snow, underneathe was all ice and slush and had to be shoveled by hand, (ugh, my aching back) and I have a double driveway to boot..

I already sent a letter to Santa, my state rep, my congressman and the Pres asking that from now on when we get storms like this that they send it to California instead of here they need to see a white Xmas once in awhile http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

70 is a little cold for beach bunnies. the nearly naked ones usually only come out when its in the 80s. well, at least in souther california. here in San Francisco, its usually pretty cold, so you will see some bikini's in the 70s. of course, the beaches and water tend to be f-ing freezing, so its usually just rather confused tourists or surfers in wet suits.

on Xmas day, it was downright frigid in the 50s. at night it made it all the way down to the 40s, and you could even see your breath. some people had to wear jackets. i'm not sure how cold snow is, but if its anything like a 40 degree night, you people are crazy to deal with it every year.

Probably not. When you live in climates that have regular, significant snowfall you just deal with it. Hey, I'm only in Maine (actually a 'warmer' cold climate since we're so close to the ocean), but if we shut down everytime we got 3-6 inches of snow, we'd be closed half the winter.

Folks in warmer climates just close down cities and such 'cause they don't have the facilities and resources (snowplows, snow tires, anti-freeze, experienced drivers http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif, etc.) to deal with the snow.

I can remember being in Fort Gordon GA in 1980 (while in the Army) and 1 1/2 in snow closed the city for 2 days. There MIGHT be 1 snowplow in all of Georgia. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I can also remember getting 10 inches of snow and still going to school in Maine.

EDIT: ...and Geo, I don't normally see the asphalt on my street for 3 months at least... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif
