OT: What Do You Do At 4:00 a.m.

What Do You Do At 4:00 a.m. when you cannot sleep?

Right now I am so board that all I am doing is stalking the forum for new Posts. I am thinking about going to the 24 hour store and getting some grub, but that would require me to get fully dressed and leave the warmth of the house.

I could play some SE IV, or other game, but lately all games just don't seem to appeal to me. I guess its a winter dry spell.

I would watch TV, but you'd think when you pay $80.00 a month for Satellite, at least one station would have something on it other than Paid advertising.

I could watch a DVD, but franking without something to snack on, why bother.

So here I am, adding yet another completely useless post the blog. Happy new years eve all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Just like you, if I'm up at 4, I'll fire up the computer in my room and browse my bookmarks. In no particular order thay are: this board, Fark, /., the Boards attached to my tagline, the USENET, snopes, straight dope, skepdic, wikipedia. It kills an hour and I'm sleepy again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Going into the living room and fireing up the T.V. seems like surendering too much -- that means I don't expect to sleep again that night. Besides, if I watch what I have stored on Tivo at 5 AM -- what will I watch later when I'm bored in the evening?

^almost same here, I frequently have insomia from 2-9 am. I usually work on something 3D, read a programming book(500+ page sleeping pills there), rock out to the Doors, mellow out to Norah Jones, or play some kind of mindless yet soothing game, like a popcap game or level grind in disgaea, or occasionally a not so soothing game like trying to kill tribes 2 bots without an embarrasingly bad kill/death ratio or playing through one of my classic games like mechwarrior, MOO2, TA, or C&C.

I don't suppose anyone wouldbe intersted in setting up a late night IP game of SE4 gold, or a multiplayer game of one of the above mentioned games?

I hear THAT! ('cept my time is 5:20). Of course, it causes me to rarely sleep past 6:30 a.m. on the weekends...so I crawl on the PC and type quietly while wifey finishes out a night of slumber

Well, when I can not sleep I just think about whatever crosses my mind. Funny 4:00 a.m. is mentioned. The other night I learn to count to nineteen in Japanese. I woke up at four in the morning couting to myself in Japanese! Quite odd. Equally strange, I kept saying "airplane" in Dutch when I went to the get a drink of water. I'm usally in "La La Land" when it's that early in the morning.

Sleep well all.

Ahh, 4am, I'm stuck around 2am to 6am most often. I watch some late night tv, even if it's news or anything. If that fails and there's no movies on I'll check the internet, If that fails me I grab a book from my bookshelf and read until 6am. Then I usually fall asleep

At 4:00 am I tend to consider strange stuff like the name Lancelot lol (Lance-alot for a knight, get it? hehe, i laughed for twenty minutes as I kept say Lancealot) or I start thinking about the book I'm trying to write.

I tend to play a little bit on the computer; mainly internet games like DarkThrones or SpaceFed as I don't hav to worry about thinking all that much.

I can't drive and even if I could driving when I'm that tired would=bad idea so I that removes that option.

Mainly though I just go into wierd mode and start thinking about stuff I really never would unless I'm exauhsted.

I have found that the over the counter natral MELATONIN is a great sleep aid. Your body converts it to seritonin, the chemical that helps you sleep.

I'm like Kwok, I'm an early to bed, early to rise kind of guy. 4am sounds like a perfectly reasonable time to wake up http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif (I'm usually up around 5-5:30am but sometimes I get up earlier and in the winter I often sleep in to about 6:30-7am. The mornings are the best time for me.

If I'm still up at 4am, then either I'm drunk, in which case I just keep drinkin & smokin, and eventually sleep comes to me. If I'm sober, then something is seriously wrong and there's only one cure for it. Crank up the subwoofer, throw on Once by Nightwish and bounce around them room until I've worn myself out. Course, then everyone else in the house is awake, but oh well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Kill people. 3am to 4am is the part of the natural cycles that people are most asleep. This leads to night ops being held at that time.

I sleep. One word: Tranquilisers. I never wake up at 4 am. The earliest was the other week when I woke up at 6.30 for some strange reason. Strangely enough I used to work at 3.30 AM (this was before my tranquilisers). That really started to make me hallucinate. True story...

I am usually a third shifter. So 0400 ='s 1800 for normal people.

After so many hours awake, a person can and will enter a hypnotic state where His unconscious mind. Will literally start manifesting itself onto conscious thought.(leading to some very interesting stimuli.)

Thats why the military likes to deprive you of sleep. Its easier to program you that way.

Re: OT: What Do You Do At 4:00 a.m.

When I was in the hospitol back in Oct 2002, they had me in a drug induced coma. I don't remember much about what happened, except that I had a lot of fights with people. I was hit several times, and had the bruses to prove it aftwards. I guess I was not a very nice guy and was acting quite hostily toward people.

Any ways, while I was out, I recall having some of the most vivid dreams of my life. When I would occationally regain conciousness, usally because someone had forgotten to switch out the I.V. and it had ran out, it was like reality was a bad dream. I would wake up and know that I was in a hospital room and would look around and see the nurse or a family member looking at me. Then all I wanted to do was go back to the illusions in my mind because they were so much better than that. I would cry when I would wake up because it meant that the dream was but a dream and the reality of my life was that I was strapped into a hospitol bed in ICU with a very slim chance for surival. (So slim that my family was told to make furneral arrangments.)

I pulled through, and to this day I only remember a few of the dreams, and they seemed more real and were more desirable than what I had, and what I had was real life. Go figure.

The funny thing is, I could still be in that coma and not even know it. Now isn't that a twisted bit of triva.

Once again I find myself unable to sleep and knowing that I must get some sleep in order to fullfill my promised obligations for today. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I hate being the way that I am because if I know I am expected to do something I find that I cannot sleep the night before. Its like I am sliding down a slippery slop toward an abyss and there is nothing I can do to stop my decent.

Not since college, luckily. Nothing causes Insomnia, at least for me, like knowing you have to get some good sleep before taking exams the next day. Also, needing to get up early the next morning to work, and by early I mean 3.30 in the morning, which I suppose means I work at the time in question.

Unfortunately, to get my wife to work on time, I have to get up at 4:30 am, take a shower, get dressed for work, then after my wife gets ready and gets my son ready, we leave around 5:15 so she can be at work at 6:00. Then I'll park across the street at a Publix and take a nap until 7:30 so I can be at work at 8:00. Let's hear it for an exciting life!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Even though I get up early, I find myself not going to bed until around midnight, unless I fall asleep watching tv in my recliner first. Even with my nap after taking my wife to work, I'm still tired most of the day. To get my 8 hours of "required" sleep in, I'd have to go to bed at 8:30, and that's just too dang early. Heck, my son doesn't even fall asleep until 10:00 or so.

No, I suffored Pancreatitis brought on from acid Ketosis where my body stopped producing insulin which caused triglycerides to be released from my body's store of fat thus causing the pancreatitis. It is considered to be one of the most painful afflications known. It was so painful that my mind could not deal with the pain and I lost all sense of reality. Something that no one should ever have to face. It sucked horribly. But when you begin to regain our senses, you truly start to understand why man is man. One of the things that helps me to fall asleep is to just lie in bed and not move. Moving keeps you awake. Also, distracting your mind using your imagination will probably help.
