Riot Runs, Chain Attacks.
1. Someone just did a riot run on me, but he failed. So, a couple of my planets haven't rioted yet, if I build troops on them will the happiness of just that planet increase, or the entire system?
2. Is it possible to do a chain attack by troops? By that I mean, attack a planet, load troops that were dropped on that planet, attack another planet, etc. Brian |
Re: Riot Runs, Chain Attacks.
1.just the planet
2. select planet to attack. select same planet to load troops, select next planet to attack , select next planet to load troops... |

ships will increase happiness in a system and at the location they are parked at. For a greater detail look at the happiness.txt file in the data directory. Look at our ships in sector and the line under it based on your empire.
2. No trick. Just que up the orders for that fleet it will do all that. No going back and forth... |

Re: Riot Runs, Chain Attacks.
Note that some of us (myself included) cannot load troops the turn they conquer a planet, so we make the fleet go back one sector and go back to the newly captured planet. I am not sure why, but it always failed for me whenever I tried it directly.
Well, now I know. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Thanks Douglas. |
Re: Riot Runs, Chain Attacks.
There are downsides to capturing several worlds in a row like this. If all your troops get killed on the first attack you end up glassing planets. Also if you capture a planet with a resupply facility and move on during the same turn, your fleet doesn't get refueled. There is also a problem sometimes if your attack fleet has carriers in it. Sometimes your carriers will pickup your troops instead of your troop ship. Then the next planet you hit will be glassed because your troop ship will be empty and your carriers won't have the correct orders. I think you can avoid that by naming your troop ship something so that it is before the carriers alphabetically. But it's been a while since I played around with that. You can also avoid it by giving your carriers the "Capture planet" strategy in the design window. If they have troops they will drop them, and if they don't they will behave like they normally do.

Re: Riot Runs, Chain Attacks.
I think you also need to give your carriers the class of Troop Ship for the Capture Planet strategy to work. Without troops, they behave as normal carriers.

Hrm. So I was not hallucinating when I remembered someone mentioning a troop loading bug. Good thing that's cleared up now.

Re: Riot Runs, Chain Attacks.
As an aside... is there any advantage at all to designing a troop in stock game other than this type,
Cockpit 3x Ground Cannon I find that other designs are less potent/pointless. Putting ECM/Combat sensors/Armor/Shields seems to be a waste. In ground combat, does the defender or the attacker get first strike? Because to me, it always seems to be the attacker, and with 3x Ground Cannon which get an inherent bonus of around 2.5, that's a lot of population you need to have just to survive the first volley. <edit> nm I found the answer from the FAQ, defenders shoot first and get 30% bonus </edit> Brian |
Re: Riot Runs, Chain Attacks.
brian there are 3 types of troops.
1. riot police... which are empty shells and cheap 2. Soaker Troops. Put the ecm and shields on them 3. Attack troops. put the combat bonus and best weapon When attacking planets it is good to use soaker troops then attack troops. riot poliece are of the smallest kind. hence why many mods have 5kt or 1kt troops... And the troop pod. Nothing else. Build 150 to 180 on each planet. That will keep from the riots. Unless you cannot fit that many then build what you can. Why 150 or more. Well when you have a large empire you can lose the max happiness points a turn very easy. So you need that amount of troops to off set this value. |
Re: Riot Runs, Chain Attacks.
I use three types of troops, plus the WobblyBob class.
1) A shielded class that is expensive to build, but soaks up lots of damage. Load it into the Troop Transport First. 2) The T3 the three gun design mentioned. Put them on the TT second. 3) ECM/ECCM troops. Load one of these Last in any attack group. It will be effective for the whole stack. Plus the troop transports use First in, First shot at when landing troops. Your ECN guy will then get killed Last while the soakers will take damage first. This is a compilation of things I have learned. It seems to work, but I have not done a lot of detailed testing. |

Yes, that works, Parasite.
