New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

Please keep in mind that the Federation that designed these ships did so 2400 years after the fall of the STNG Federation. So the designs are simular, but not entirely cannon.

The Sets are both still under development, so they are incomplete at this time. But take a look at what I do have posted. Comments are very welcome.

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

Thanks guys. Been up all night playing a test game and watching SG1 DVD's. Burned through all five seasons of B5, all 7 of STNG and DS9, four seasons of Futurama, and all 5 of the saprano's. (That was Last month and first part of this month.) For those of you have not guessed it yet, yes I have no life. And no, its something that you do not want a part of, trust me. You are only as free as your pocket book and mood will allow you to be.

So here I am, almost 6am, and --- I went off on a tangent. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Sorry.

I will keep working on the sets until they are finished. I will try to add extra ships for use with the Adamant, but I get a bit run down on the sets at the moment. Will have to add ships as I get the urge to do so. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

They need to be textured better I think.

I like all textures, apart from the second starbase. I suggest to put a few windows and light beacons on it.

I guess I still don't like the chubby nacelles on the Federation Battleship. That's my only comment besides the fact that they look great.

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

just one small nitpick - the nova nacelles need fins.

http://www.memory-alpha.org/en/index...quinox2375.jpg

Other than that, they all look good.

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

I'd prefer to see more of the "modern" trek ships in the DS9 set like the steamrunner etc. Some of them are just too similar with an extra nacelle and things of that sort.

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

Thanks for the comments. I spent a considerable amount of time tyring out every texture I could find. NONE of them worked or looked good. So in the end, knowning that they will never be cannon, I opted for the smooth hull look.

I am a bit defensive of these sets because of the time and effort I had to put into them. Try making a set of your own and you will soon see what I am talking about. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Aside from being fun, coming up with the new ships was a challenge. Most federation ships look a alot alike, and there is not much you can do about it. I tried, and hit or miss, I did it.

Thanks for the feed back. I will try and tweak them more. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

New Ships posted.

DS9
STNG
TMP

I have seen the new STNG ships in the game and they do look better than the current set IMHO. I will include them in the next patch for the STM, but players who dislike these new sets can always choose to re-install the older, SFC, sets.

The sets are neo-standard. The SFC sets were not.

In a way yes. I based the basic standard designs of the Federation stock ship off of ships I got form those site a few years ago. Thanks for posting the links.

These are truely awesome ships AT. And don't listen to people that want you to add 'textures', the way they turned out looks great, and the ship themselves have more than enough detail to make textures useless. In fact often times adding a texture just 'clutters' the models.

Yes indeed AT, these ships are fantastic. Keep having fun and rest assured your work is much aprieciated.

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Within the TMP set I think the medium transports top view looks like the logo for the Mothman Prophecies or The Butterfly Effect.

Edit: wait, I figured it out. It's the rabbit from Donnie Darko.

Darnit! I was gonna try a DS9 spacestation and you beat me to it!

Why didn't you use a nice bronze "cardacian" color for the space station?

And finally, what math did you use to get the three evenly spaced pylons on the ring? I put my plan on hold for that reason alone.

They repainted it as the cardassian color was depressiong to the Bajorian.

No math used, I just eyeballed it.

I'm too much of a neat-freak, I guess. I direct-edit all the parts coordinates once I get it close.

I guess we wouldn't want to depress the Bajorans. Are they part of your new Federation now, or still rats-in-a-maze under study? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

*sigh* I suppose why not? I mean, continuity has never stopped them in previous episodes, why should it now? Maybe next will have Archer and Trip travel forward in time to the "Trouble with Tribbles" episode and we can see them in the same scenes with Sisko, O'brien and Warf travelling backwards from DS9. Or perhaps Enterprise can make contact with Voyager in the Delta quadrant? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

Geoschmo, don't be so negative about the flexibility of Star Trek... afterall it's a pretty rediculous idea that humans are the most influensive beings in this galaxy. Also, please don't do a search for the "science" behind Star Trek. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

geoschmo January 28th, 2005 10:47 AM

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

The technobable doesn't bother me at all. That's actually part of what I find appealing in Trek. And the idea of humans being a major player in the galaxy is just part of the overall story. I'm not complaining about a lack of realism, just a lack of consistancy within the franchise. We have an established history with the previous series. We know when certain things happened, and when certain races were first contacted. When Enterprise came out I was very excited about the prospect of filling in some of the blank spots and fleshing out the details of how the Federation came into being. The early episodes with the Andorians were excellent.

But then the crap with the temporal cold war, and the Ferengi, the Borg, the Organians, totally rewriting vulcan history. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Like many fans I like to view the star trek franchise as a continuum of stories set in a common universe. Like one big book with chapters written by different authors. But when stuff in one chapter totally contradicts stuff in another chapter, it just gets a little frustrating.

Timstone January 28th, 2005 11:34 AM

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

Yeah, the lack of conituity in any serie is always something that annoys me greatly.
It's always present with many people writing the soties. Everyone has his/her own vision about the serie and wants to show it to the public.
I once heard, so I don't know if it is true, that thwere is a whole office busy answering questions from fans and knitting episodes (and movies) of Star Trek together. If this is true, it must be a pretty geeky job working there, not that there is something wrong with being a geek of course. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Randallw January 28th, 2005 11:39 AM

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

I think the explanation is that because of the Temporal Cold War, events in Enterprise follow a new timeline. Originally the Klingon's were not initially encountered because a Klingon was being chased by Suliban taking orders from a faction in the future, and he fled to Earth. ALso when they wiped out a colony on a planet, the guy from the future said that wasn't supposed to happen. They solved it, but think of the consequences of the descendants of those people killed not affecting the future.

The only thing consistent in Star Trek (other than technobabble) is that nothing is consistent...

Well said. They realized the importance of consistency way to late and lets face it, Gene Rodenburries "Reset After Each Episode" mantality. This view of star trek was put it its ulitmate test with Voyager. Endless shuttles, crew cloning, and never take damage. Hell if a ship was lost in space for 7 years, 75000 light years from home, away from resources and a ship yard, it stands to reason that it won't look brand new when it got home. Hell My car is over 8, and its been babied, yet it still looks 8 years old with ware and tare.

Well no sense in crying over spilt milk.

Re: New DS9 and STNG Ship Sets

Sorry about turning this thread into a ST discussion, but I have learned more. The mirror Enterprise has nothing to do with the normal universe. It is a 2 parter and the normal crew have nothing to do with it. The introduction and music and scenes are new for the mirror universe, and it involves the Tholians and the TOS Tholian episode. We even get to see the Tholians for real (well CGI real). Pity it will be like 2 years before I ever get to see it. At least the Tholian shipset may get a new race portrait.
