AI question - Surrendering?

What conidtions will a "Neutral"-type AI empire surrender under?

Re: AI question - Surrendering?

It depends on the AI, but I believe you need the following ratios of your score to theirs of 10:1 for them to surrender and 6:1 to subjugate them.

For stock AI's, you need 10x their score. If they have strong negative mood towards your empire, you might need a little more.

Hm. How about for them to accept demands for one of thier planets?

Now that condition is absurdly low. I once played a game with a policy of demanding each race's homeworld immediately on first contact. I quit after meeting three races, all of whom gave it to me.

... Which would probalby substntially reduce their score, making it easier to get everything else. Cool.

The AI is so easy to exploit... Play PBW!

Acutally, I am, but there's some AI empires floating around too. So, guess it's time for me to demand homeworlds.

which makes playing PBW with AI's a game of chance, the first one meeting them will be the one leading.

The AI is not "easy" to exploit, it is a bit harder than that. But not by much.

PBW is definately the way to go if your looking for a challenge, but PBW games are veeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy slow games.

I recommend finding a someone who can play a few turn fests with you and play a game over Instant Messinger. You can get up to 50 turns in a session. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

How about empires that are dead? I played in a game where I was at war with a dead empire and the empire played out to the end. I had to capture every planet, even though my score was over 20%. I wondered if this always applies to dead empires, or perhaps this empire's AI did not allow surrender to begin with? I think I checked the AI file and it did, but I do not remember for sure.

Well, if the empire loses every last planet, then no, there's no one to talk to. Those remaining "ghost ships" just sort of wander around picking fights with everyone until destroyed.

You may also be be describing a "practically dead" empire, the xenophobic races (Ammonkrie and Sergetti in the standard game,) have a higher threshold for all diplomacy conditions -- they have to like you more than other races do to give you a trade treaty, and you have an even higher in score to get them to surrender.

The TDM-Mod Pack takes this further, some races will never surrender or make treaties.

Re: AI question - Surrendering?

Oops! In my post, I meant X20 score, not 20%. The race's AI file allowed surrender (score X10 if I remember right), the game allowed surrender, and the race had planets left - four or five I think. I had to capture them all, it would not accept surrender to the end. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this - or maybe did have a dead race surrender to them so I know this was just a fluke, somehow.
