typo in 1.30
 

There is an exclamation mark in the design creation file for the Xiati that will create an error. Just search the section dealing with troop transports and you will see it in one of the lines.

My file is clean. My file date = 1/31/01 which means it was part of the 1.27b patch. Anyone else see this in their files b/c I do not see it?

Strange.
I just donloaded the patch today and installed it like anyone else. I had a "Can't find line..." error on the Xiati's turn, so I checked the Design creation file and fixed it, and it worked.

The error is in Xiati_AI-DesignCreation.txt.

You can search for "troop transports". When you're there, go six lines down to

Num Must Have At Least 1 Ability := 1

This is how it should be. In my case (I know this starts to raise questions about my mental health, but I could see it really, and then the exlamation mark changed into a green square that said nasty things about my mother...:-), it was

Num Must Have At Least 1 Ability !:= 1

If it's true that the only file that was changed for the patch is components.txt, this should be an older problem, or something about my computer is really, really strange!

I must say I'm on Windows 98, and it sucks! (fighting tears, banging head against printer, tormented facial expression, blood spilling on keyboard,)

I have no idea how that exclamation mark crept into that file, because I've never opened it before!

Probably a bit got flipped during your download. It can happen. Why do you think computer people talk about "bit error rates?" They might brag about how small they are, but still, they are there, on rare occasions.
