Forum filter?

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif Is there a "profanity filter" on posts? I don't see my reply in a certain thread. I may have used the word <damn>...

Re: Forum filter?

AFAIK, it only ****'s out certain words, and I'm pretty sure damn isn't one of them. I don't think there's any filter that outright rejects posts.

Re: Forum filter?

No there is not a filter that totally deletes posts. That is up to the moderator or admin's discretion. Could there have been some sort of error when you submitted the post? I could check with the mods but unless it was inflamatory or slandering another poster I doubt that removal of the post was the case.

And Will is right, the filter simply ****'s out banned words.

From the Board Rules :

Quote:

Try to restrict use of profanity to words you'd hear on primetime network TV. Linking to websites with inappropriate ad banners is also forbidden. Using a "Not Safe for Work" (NSFW) label on threads, pictures or posts is acceptable for items which are appropriate on the forum but inappropriate for work. Strong profanity should generally be restricted. "Damn," "Hell," and "Microsoft" are all okay.

So I can't use **** or ****? That seems silly. What about ****? Oh, I guess ***** is out too. *****.

Re: Forum filter?

If a moderator deletes a post they will most likely notify you about it. However I have never seen a posted deleted by a moderator in the four years that I have been here. I have seen them moved before but again, you should have received a PM if that was the case.

Re: Forum filter?

I've actually deleted a fair number.
However they were all ones with no content.

IMO, there is no sense in having a bunch of old "Bump" and "<Deleted/Nevermind>" posts sitting around in the middle of threads where they have no use anymore.

Mindi February 23rd, 2005 09:15 PM

Re: Forum filter?

Actually thank you for pointing that out Atrocities. We have a general policy that if a mod wants to remove an inflamatory post (not a "bump" or "<deleted/nevermind> type thing) that they move it to the private moderator forum so that the admins know what was removed and for what reason in case there are questions asked later. Then they are supposed to PM the user and let them know why it was removed.

You're post probably had some sort of error when posting TurinTurambar, that's all.

Re: Forum filter?

At least this isn't this one forum with the weirdest filter I saw - it replaced "damn" with "darn", so I decided to try testing it out... can you figure out what "girl thingycat" means? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Forum filter?

Or what how they got "Behind Closed Doors" means? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I mean it totally ruined the angery meaning of my post. "Hey you know what, people like you who want to hurt people for just being people can go *Behind Closed Doors* yourself!."

Re: Forum filter?

Heh. Darn means damn, so replacing one with the other doesn't really make sense, does it? It's just a way for people to claim they didn't swear.
