(Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
That's right, The Rock is starring in DOOM the movie! Replete WITH the BFG (Big'uh Freakin GUN) or officially "Bio-Force Gun"
Now question is, which doom is it gonna be based on? 1, 2 or 3? Sorry I don't have links or trailers because I just now heard it while watching TV from the Rock himself http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Anywhoo your thoughts on this? |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
Well, at least in this case they have an excuse for plotless violence. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
there was some /. coverage of this last year. from what i remember, it will be based loosely on doom 3. but it might feel more like system shock 2, as the monsters are not from hell but the product of a genetic engineering lab gone awry.
*shrug* |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
From what I can tell, its not going to be Doom like at all.
Instead of demons from hell, its mutants from a virus. Instead of lone marine, its a swat team. Gee, its Resident Evil, the movie! |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
Original DOOM, not the new one as it sucked horribly.

Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
hmmm..
seems the Rock is trying to get into as many movies as he can these days. Hopefully BeCool will be better than his earlier attempts at movies. (ie. Scorpion King) |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
Scorpian King wasn't all that bad, granted it wasn't what they made it out to be, and I wouldn't have wanted to pay to see it (which I didn't) but uhm, well I'm really not making a case for it here am I?
Anyway he's a pretty good actor, and everyone gets those crappy movies that they're in so I won't judge anyone by their past works unless it's Kevin Cosner (SP?) who really needs to learn to end his movies 3.2 hours earlier then he does, oh yeah, and actually throw in some good acting/plot you know yadda yadda. |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
I think the Rock is the replacement for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Eventually the Rock will get to old and they will replace him with a new bodybuilder/Wrestler.

As far as a Doom movie, it can't be better than Resident Evil (either of them). That means, at best, I'll laugh at some of the insanely stupid stuff in the movie; at worst, I'll want to claw my eyes out and chew off an arm, in the hopes it will get me out of the theatre. I just don't see any way to make this a really good movie. And, when you think about it, has there EVER been a videogame -> film adaptation that has been GOOD? All that I've seen range from very sub-par to outright horrible... |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
I think that most people on the forum would agree that "Super Mario Brothers" and "Street Fighter" were probably overlooked in their respective years by the Oscars.
Seriously, videogame - movie conversions are an attempt to strike while the iron is hot and cash in on a successful series (book, game, toy). Hey, if I could, I would too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
RESIDENT EVIL ROCKED! Do not blaspheme it by caling it subpar http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
Seriously though I did like RE and the sequal a lot and own them both, so lets see if DOOM can make it before we prejudge anything http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
I actually enjoyed Mortal Kombat. Mainly for the sountrack, flashy colors, and neat visuals.
The fight coreogrophy was only slightly above average for hollywood (which means is sucked) and the acting and plot was hammy. but it was fun, and i think it sounded good. but for truely oscar worthy video game movies, how could you have forgoten Wing Commander? Seriously though, Final Fantasy was a pretty film, even if a bit abstract for my taste. |

Wow, yet another movie based on a video game. Should be an excellent movie. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
From what i've read on the Doom movie early last year, they've scaled it back due to threats from christian conservative groups and anti-game violence groups. Since the game was tied to the Columbine fiasco, and features a ton of satanic overtones, no studio was willing to touch the first couple of scripts until it was 'cleaned up' and 'sanitized' for more moral audiences.
What I find humorous about the whole thing is that even if they kept the satanic and violence, most of the people objecting to it wouldn't see it. And even now, most still won't see it. |
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
Im probably going to go see it, despite all the stupid changes they've made. I just wish it was the way it is supposed to be, with demons and without stupid mutation viruses.

Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
I would have rather they had chosen Vin Deasel but The Rock will do as well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
yeah, Vin plays DnD, so he's knows nerd stuff.
|
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
Why would people object to shooting demons?
|
Re: (Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!
Who knows, these are the same people that think it's better to keep a brain-dead person, with no chance of recovery, alive for years artificially at taxpayer expense because they think people can only die when it's a natural death.
I swear... these people are smoking some seriously good stuff we don't know about. |
