Nice rock-volcanic texture. I like the engine? glows on the back.

Like you pointed out, needs some work on the lighting but otherwise looks good. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Are they supposed to have an organic ship look?

Re: Some ships for your viewing pleasure

The hull looks too uniform. That is, there's nothing to break it up and make it look interesting.

Renegade 13 March 9th, 2005 03:45 AM

Re: Some ships for your viewing pleasure

Well Fyron, I wasn't going for any particular look. I recently acquired Bryce 5, so mostly I'm just playing around, learning the program and creating a few semi-pathetic ships in the process http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Narf, I agree. I'm trying to think of something(s) I can add to break up the hull, make it look more visually appealing. Perhaps the pic above will be more to your liking??

Looked at it again, and nope, the hull's still visually unappealing. Maybe something lighter colored about 1/3 of the way along the hull, running forward to backward? As of now, it's still bland.

Dreadnought-ish

To hell with symmetry!

Vive l'asymétrie! Symmetrical ships are very boring. More ship sets need blessed asymmetry.

This is some nice work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I really like the look you have going here. Can I order one?

Thank you!

Ok, I'll put one on pre-order for you. Now, the final design is not yet complete, more cosmetic aspects are going to be addressed, but I can assure you the weapons systems are fully designed and integrated.

The price? Don't worry about it, it's a gift. Expect construction to be complete within...ohh...give or take 453 years. I do hope you can wait http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

I like the main texture that you're using. It makes the ships look like they've seen some action.

Re: Some ships for your viewing pleasure (maybe...

Perhaps you could add some battle-scarring, scorchmarks, small craters, patched gaps and such, especially on the larger ships..... would look really good. Would accentuate the feel that they've seen action even more.

I mean..... what's more terrifying? A gleaming, shiny Dreadnought with 40% experiance or a rugged DN that looks like it's seen many many many battles with 40% experiance?

Like comparing a fluffy bunny to a rugged tiger don't you think.....

Well I don't think I'll add scorch marks and the like on this one, a colony ship.

You sure that isn't a troopship? Cause there's no way I'm letting that orbit my worlds!

Nothing says hardcore like a colony ship that's seen combat.

The ships look nice, but could use some more ambient lighting.

Re: Some ships for your viewing pleasure

You know, I think I may make that a troopship. Does look like it's seen some action. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

More lighting is definitely called for, thanks for the suggestion. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Another, a Small Troop Ship. Probably an organic ship, with metallic armor guarding the more delicate "flesh".

I see you figured out the lighting problem. Looking good! How about a rerendering of the other models with the new lighting? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

They look good, but I've always thought just duplicating cargo storage in transport pics made them not look as good.

Renegade 13 March 11th, 2005 03:28 AM

Re: Some ships for your viewing pleasure

I agree Narf, but I honestly couldn't think of anything to make the Medium and Large Transports unique. Do you have any suggestions? If you do I'd be quite happy to hear them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

EDIT: Think I'll move the guns on the fighter too, they just look too odd where they are.

Different 'cargo' pods? Basically, the same way you would make a warship look different.

Re: Some ships for your viewing pleasure (maybe...

Hmmm...right now I have no imagination, but later on tonight I'll think about it, and probably come up with some way of making them each look unique. Thank you very much for constructive criticism! I need lots of it! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

This is one very cool shipset. Apart from looking real dangerous, they have a quite organic feel. Almost as if their ships are made of coral. They also look dam threatening. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Whew! Just spent the last 4 hours working on the rest of the "main" ships, Escort through to dreadnought. Many have been revised, the old dreadnought pic from about 20 posts ago has been turned into a large carrier, with a new and improved dreadnought taking it's place. Here's a pic with all ships, escort-dread at 128x128, the portrait size they appear in-game: http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...cort-Dread.png

Pretty good, although the first two groups of three don't really distinguish themselves enough.

No, I'm using Bryce 5.

Narf, I would also like them to be more distinctive, but for the time being I'm satisfied with them as they are. Distictiveness is certainly a goal, but I think they're OK as is...until I decide I don't like them and revise them http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
