100 Most Satisfying Moments in SEIV

In light of the "Shocking News", we need a "feel good" thread in this time of uncertainty. Here's the first 20 Most Satisfying Moments in SEIV:

1) Winning your first game against the AI
2) Building your first Ring World or Sphere World
3) Capturing your first planet with troops
4) Winning your first game against a human
5) Playing your first mod
6) Discovering the Phased Polaron Beam
7) Winning your fleet battle using strategic combat
8) Successfully completing your first "Crew Insurrection" intel project
9) Successfully completing your first "Puppet Political Parties" intel project
10) Successfully completing your first turn of your first game at PBW
11) Winning your first major fleet battle when outnumbered but having superior ships and no losses
12) Having an enemy fleet be decimated by your "large breathable" filled with Weapon Platforms
13) Discovering Stellar Manipulation
14) The first time you read through components.txt or facility.txt
15) Asking your first question on Shrapnel Forums and being greeted by the "welcome wagon" of regulars; and having the question answered in 3 minutes.
16) Building your first Baseship
17) Discovering Mounts
18) Playing "hookie" to play SEIV all day
19) Learning so much during your first game against a human
20) Seeing your construction rate on the planet after building your first Temporal Spaceyard III, with Hardy Industrialists and a 125% Construction Rate

22. Blowing up the sun of an enemy Neutral race that is blocking your access to the rest of the map..... happened to me once, and boy it was MOST satisfying.
23. Sfter you hear your sun's gonna blow in three years, evacuating all population to transports and making a massive trade with a hi-tech neighbour that not only gives you a free Huge Breathable world, but also lots of new tech..... those EEE are still trying to figure out what the hell happened.

"What, they evolved as 8 foot tall sapient crystals, on a methane gas giant, they hate everybody, but they don't mind being relocated to a huge methane ice world, to build intel facilities I'll use against the parent empire?"

Just a heads up, that won't work. Stellar manipulation requires 1 movement point left, and bases never have movement.

37. When you finnally finish your stellar manipulation ships for the first time, and slip a star destroying into the enemies homesystem via a created warppoint, then close it on the same turn.

It wasn't exactly my first major fleet battle, but I've had something like that happen. My 18 LC's came through a warp point and found over 50 mixed enemy destroyers and LC's on the other side. Too bad for the other guy that I had already maxed out CS, ECM, armor, and training on all of these ships and had a level 5 shield generator on them (PPB were disabled in this game), while he had none of the specialty armors, no shields, no CS or ECM at all on most of his ships, and no higher than level 2 CS and ECM on his latest stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he didn't have training either. Not only did I take no losses, I took no damage http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif. My enemy in that battle withdrew from the game shortly afterwards, though not before I glassed his homeworld the next turn.

Oooooh painfull.....

38. Having your girlfriend come over to your house and discovering she is your most trusted ally in a major PBW game.
39. Having your girlfriend come over to your house and discovering she is your most hated enemy in a major PBW game.

Oh wait..... 39. is probably not satisfying, but I just thought it would be nice as near-symmetrical partner of 38.

Have actually done this...

Imagine repelling fleets of enemy ships number upwards of three hundred in their fleet with nearly five hundred in your combined fleets, and surviving long enough to build several starbases to act as a forward base of operations.

Waking up early in the morning to go to school, then discovering you haven't got any classes today so you can start playing SEIV at 8:00. (and that's saying something. When left to my own devices in the weekend, I usually wake up at about 10:00 and get out of bed at approx. 11:00)

Re: 100 Most Satisfying Moments in SEIV

The time I started a game and my home system star went nova two turns into it. That was fun.

Oh yes, all of those imfomous RCE's and the wonderfulness that came with them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I actually kinda remember most of my games, the good ones. The PBW game I played with Electrum, Gandolph, CNC, Tnarg, and one other but I do not recall his name... he was the Ferengi and the first 12hr turn pbw game from 2003. Those two games were the funnest I have ever been involved with.

There are so many "moments" like now, being up all night just to play one more turn, the lists that we have were all fun to make and well, having my ship set making tutorial added to the GOLD cd along with a couple of ship sets was just fricking awsome.

Making my first ship set. Making my first Star Trek ship set. Remaking my first star trek ship set. And then finally REMAKING it again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: 100 Most Satisfying Moments in SEIV

K, this isn't an SEIV moment, but SEII. But it's the most satisfying point of my SE career.

Finding a Demo version for SEII and playing it for days on end. Then asking a friend (had no internet at that time) to find info for ordering the full version. He called the next day to tell me that he could not find SEII anywhere (paused just long enough for me to start feeling disappointed), then tells me that he found, bought for me, and already downloaded the full version of SEIII!!!

Re: 100 Most Satisfying Moments in SEIV

My most satisfying moment in SEIV has to be when I played the Star Trek Mod, and having the first round of diplomatic negotiations between me and the Gorn end with their reply:

"Here is a pile of S***! Enjoy!"

I laughed so hard I farted.
