1- I believe it was called Axis and Allies Europe.
2- Never actually OWNED one... :O 3- See 1. 4- See 2. 5- Well, the guy who introduced me to it still has it... 6- Played Axis and Allies with the European and Pacific boards connected, so we had an entire world map... started playing at around 9PM, and finished sometime around 10AM the next morning... I would have to say the combined game is the mostest fun http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif 7- I believe it was freshman year of high school, so that would mean I was 14. 8- My first game of chess was at age 6. I'm still not that good, I think my rating is somewhere around 1200; I can beat a beginner, but not much beyond that, I don't have the theory training. |

Re: OT : Your Wargame Memory
1. Lord, its hard to remember. The first actual real published wargame i ever played may have been Battletech, but previous to that we would always make up rules for how legos, star-wars action figures, or war vehicles built from dominos could kill each other. we even used measuring tapes and dice.
2. Battletech 3. Cant remember offhand, but "Bookshelf Games" made a bunch of clasic strategy type games like stratego and such, and i was playing those at a very young age. 4. Battletech 5. yep. 6. So many good ones, its hard to pick. 7. 5 or 10, depending on which answer to number 1 you like. 8. i play poorly. started at 5 or 6ish. |
Re: OT : Your Wargame Memory
I didn't think Risk would count http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif
I think we all must have played that game And what about Battle Ship? Would it count too? |
Re: OT : Your Wargame Memory
I'm not sure about battleship?? I guess we could count it, so ya, why not. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Also it appears that everyone or most everyone has played Risk and Chess.. That in itself is interesting at least to me.
ps. ah Dave, I'm afraid a Kyle clone wasn't in the winner's setup, however, as a consolataion prize I guess we could set the winner up with a dinner party with Barry the T-Rex or ... Gasp.... Have "The Gryphin" explain the ins and outs of Circle the Wagons and "The Gryphin" position but I don't know if one's heart could stand the exposure to that kind of excitment http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |

Re: OT : Your Wargame Memory
1. What was the lst wargame you ever played?
Depends on the definition of Wargame. Looking at question 3, I guess you mean on a computer here, so, er... Super Trek on the University of Washington Unix mainframe? Sea Battle on the Intellivision? Tanktics on the Atari 8-bit computer? 2. What was the lst wargame you ever owned? Sea Battle on the Intellivision? Tanktics on the Atari 8-bit computer? 3. What was the lst wargame Board Game you ever played? Again, depends on the definition of Wargame. I'd tend to answer Tactics II, by Avalon Hill, though I played other games about war before that. 4. What was the lst wargame Board Game you ever owned? Tactics II I guess. 5. Do you still have the lst game you ever played?bought? Yes. 6. What is your favorite Board WarGame? Hmm. Apples and Oranges. Probably have to say GURPS tactical combat with hexes and my own house rules. 7. How Old were you when you played your lst wargame? Tactics II was like ... 9 years old. 8. Do you play Chess? If so what age did you start playing? Rarely these days. Not sure when I started - 6 years old? |
