New PBW Game: Power Game VI: Capture the Flag

Power Game VI: Capture the Flag

From the original game: We've all done it at least once, set up a game with 5000 racial points and other settings just to kick the crap out of the AI. But how well would you fare against other human players that have done the same thing?

May’s game is all about capturing and holding a target planet. The map will be completely custom and visible to all. Each player will start with a huge homeworld in a stack of six huge worlds. The warp point into and out of this system will be part of this stack. Once you leave your home system you will enter the “Field” which will have warp points to all of your opponents in one sector and to the Flag system on the opposite side of the system. What this means is that if you have a ship over your homeworld you can be over one of your opponents’ homeworlds with only two movement points so plan your defense accordingly. The Flag system will contain a sphereworld and the referee’s (me) homeworld. You must capture and hold the Flag planet for 20 turns (the turn of capture does not count.) The referee is there only for observation and to keep track of time. The referee will announce to all players when a player enters the flag system and when a player captures the Flag as well as the number of turns held. Needless to say, don’t attack the ref!

Rules for empire creation:
5000 racial points
You must choose Rock/Oxy as your planet type and atmosphere.

There will be no: Intel, Mines, or Stellar Manipulation
You’ll start with the one good homeworld and 100,000 bonus.

All worlds will be resource rich, which has become a trademark of the series. The idea behind this is to eliminate economic problems from the equation and allow you to concentrate on other things.

The whole idea behind the Power Games is to create games that new players can jump into and have a good time while giving experienced players a change of pace from the average game. The settings I've chosen for these games tend to level the playing field a bit but you still need to be at your best.

Some general rules: Please, no pre-arranged alliances. Make sure you can accept e-mail from gmail (bounced e-mails drive me insane! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ) If you miss the first turn you will be kicked from the game. If you miss more than three turns in a row you will be kicked from the game (I would expect the same of any game I'm in, it's only fair to the other players.) If you need an extension of the turn deadline e-mail me, I'm very easy to get along with. Most important - Have a good time!

I’ll be starting this game May 1st and you must have your empire file uploaded by April 25th. The game will close to new players then to allow me time to finish the map.

On to the settings!

Don't want to join, but have a point: Someone could still accidently (In a fit of excitement/sleep deprivation) attack the ref. I suggest a mini-mod giving the ref (You) a massive, planetary weapon. Either that or very regenerative shields or something.

Re: New PBW Game: Power Game VI: Capture the Flag

No mods, but what I'll do is add a bunch of damaging asteroid fields to that sector.

Re: New PBW Game: Power Game VI: Capture the Flag

Add a cloaking nebula with higher cloak than detectable (5 ?) I dont know if this is possible for small nebulas but if possible you could forego all the asteroid fields etc and just have that cloak.

Re: New PBW Game: Power Game VI: Capture the Flag

Can't use a nebula, it would cloak the entire system. All in all I'm not too worried about a player attacking the ref but the AI might if we lose a player.

Yeah, I read it and responded without thinking too much about it. You obviously meant a storm. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif

That is a good idea, thank you!

Or give the ref fully loaded sphereworlds..a sphereworld completely full of WPs would be a tough nut to crack http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Is the sphere flag world already colonised? If it is we will just need a lot of troops..... and it will probably be glassed anyway at some point.

Re: New PBW Game: Power Game VI: Capture the Flag

No, it's empty until someone claims it. I went with a sphereworld just because it's an inviting target but if someone can get on it early enough to build then the other players are going to have a time taking it, that's why I went with a long duration to hold the flag.

Excellent. That makes empire design easier.

Join up! These games are great because they are quick and fun as economic micro-management is not an issue.

We have five contenders for the flag! Four slots left.

We now have six players ready to grind each other into dust in order to hold onto a large rock! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Three slots left.

If anyone is interested here is the map as it stands now. Players take note, if you look at the map in the editor (and you're welcome to) you'll see that all six of your worlds have great stats. Once you start a game, however, SEIV will redo the stats on your homeworld to a more normal starting world, I have no control over this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif The other five will be as shown in the editor though.

Make sure you have read the game's description thoroughly so you can make your empire accordingly. If you upload your empire and decide you want to change it before the game starts DO NOT withdraw and reapply, just email me your new empire and I'll use it at game creation.

I will be using the game news to announce when someone enters the flag system and when they capture the Flag. If you enter the system cloaked there will be no announcement, whether I can see you or not. I will count a player as having captured the flag from the second turn I can see that players flag over the world and will begin counting for all players to hear. Needless to say, you'll be getting a lot of email from this game! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask here or to email me and I'll answer as quickly as I can.
