Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
Do any of you 3d modelers know a way to convert HOB files to X format?
|
Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
What's an HOB file?

Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
Same here, I never heard of HOB. I'll look into it. I'll let you know if I can convert it for you.

Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
HOB is the format used by the models in Birth of the Federation. The mod hosted on the following site has various custom models included for samples, should you need them:

Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
I´ve checked the program I use for conversion, but unfortunately I can´t convert it for you.
I hope you can find a suitable convertor. Please let us know when you´ve found a program that can convert it. |
Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
So they do have a conversion program.... but man what a hassel to do it. Thanks Fyron for the link.

Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
I believe all of the hassle is in getting a model to work in BOTF. It should hopefully be a fairly simple process to convert the models back to a more normal format.

Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
Once converted to X format, should be able to work, hopefully, as a ship in a mod for Star Fury or other simular game..
Having access to these models will go a long way toward a Star Trek Mod for SE V. |
Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
So you want to use BOTF models for SEV ST mod...what about artist permission and all that crap...or are you just going to give direct copyright to paramount and such...Not that I care about these things...but...if you want models for a ST mod for SEV...I would think it would be easier to use .MOD files from Star Fleet Command (SFC 1 and 2)...I know their are converters from .MOD to 3dmax I believe, and 3dmax will do .x right? I guess the only problem would be poly's at that point on the textures...

Kana:
Yup, there is a good .X convertor for 3DM. I have one installed on my copy. Need it? |
Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
Thanks, but I don't have 3DM...so I would have no use for it...but...it's nice to know we have someone with the tools...I think I have the .MOD converter program that converts the Models to a usable 3DM format...but from what I can remember most of the models are very heavy poly especially the really nice ones...Anyway to decrease poly counts, without a new texture?

Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
The game belongs to Atari now I think and for the most part it has been picked to death already.. (Look in the Image Mod) And orginally all of the STAR TREK ships were ones that I got from BOTF and set up for use with SEIV. That was way back in 2000, and early 2001.

I can convert a model for you to have less polies, but it will look a bit more choppier. I can tell you which program I use for it, but if you're interested in it please send me a PM or mail me (see my personalia). |

Re: Question: Converting Files (3D Modelers)
Yes, they were used as troops in some sets. I never used them. Another used ships from Armada and Armada 2. Many of the later sets I created used models from SFC series, Klingon Acadamy, and BOTF.
