What happened?

So I was taking a castle, and my heavy lifting was largely being done by a Gift of Reasoned Siege Golem (Stymphalean Wings, Starshine Cap, Boots of Quickness, Amulet of Antimagic, Bracers of Protection - Flying, Haste, Trample, Size 5, Protection 31, MR 18). In the process of the battle, however, my opponent hit him with Decay, causing him two whole points of damage before the battle ended. Then completely killing him outright when the battle was over.

My question is: What?!

Seriously, my siege Golem is Lifeless, so he shouldn't be affected by a spell that rips the flesh from the bones of a living creature. Secondly, since when does decau hit for 83 points of damage at the end of battle?

Is this a glitch, or is this supposed to happen. And if it is supposed to happen, how?

Re: What happened?

Decay deals massive punishment to a unit after the battle has ended. I am not sure how much, but I think it is something like 50Xdamage dealt... or am I confusing it with something else? Either way, Decay is supposed to work more or less like that.

Hopefully someone has more accurate information than I do.

I tested decay on a GoRd terasque with a ring of regeneration. It died, even though it was victorious. Decay MIGHT stack, I couldn't be sure.

But I don't see why it should work on a lifeless Golum. In any case, the spell seems overpowered, especially for a level 1 spell.

Just think of it as the metal rusting and falling to bits. Decay requires a MR check, and with a MR of 18 5% of such spells succeed. It also must hit the target, and usually only takes effect once you've lost the battle anyways, so it's powerful, but not overly so.

The spell description states it only affects living creatures, so it doesn't make much sense to me.

I know for a fact that it also works on Iron Dragons. Its one of the better ways to defeat them.

Do you take Decay damage if you rout?

Re: What happened?

I pretty sure you do. With poison damage, as soon as a unit reaches the edge of the screen, the poison drips repeatedly and either kills the unit or not.

Re: What happened?

I'm quite sure that after combat decay doesn't just deal damage but outright kills everyone infected, modded ridiculously high HP's and regen dont help.

...Thus Anthrax is quite good hit& runner...

Maybe this post about decay damage by Kristoffer O helps for this discussion as well: Post#325726

...so I would guess that not all banfire/decay effects are of the same 'quality'.

BTW, is there a cap on the regeneration rate? And do they all add up (e.g. does 'casting the spell personal regeneration', 'regeneration from items', 'regeneration from a blessing effect' and an 'innate regeneration ability' always stack? Does the regeneration percentage stack additively?)

Re: What happened?

I believe, like many of the other game effects, they can stack, to a point. Like, you can have natural regen, A spell related regen, and item regen. I'm not sure if 2 regen items stack, but I know the spells say that they don't stack.

Re: What happened?

Surely, two of the same kind will not stack, but I think that I once tried to stack a 'Hydra Skin Armour' with a 'Ring of Regeneration' and that richt-clicking the regeneration icon showed successful stacking. I am merely wondering if different kinds stack (spell, item, bless & innate).

Re: What happened?

Spells don't stack. I think it would be cool if they did. Some people have complained about battlefield enhancements not stacking, as it would allow regular units to easily take SCs.
