I dont think it was a good move. If the SEIV race-for-posts is going to play straw on the camel then why make SEV part of it? Might show an opinion of SEV I guess. Thats too bad. I wonder why StarFury wasnt absorbed also?

I liked them separate, too. At the very least, they should have moved the existing posts from the SEV forum to this one before scrapping it. If you're going to combine forums, don't lose posts in the process.

well as time goes on its just one forum to look after. and the seiv posts will slowly stop and the sev posts will take over. Also I believe with the removal of SE from shrapnel that this part of the shrapnel community will slow down. Look at how many posts were getting a week now. It has slowed down. And it will only get slower and slower.

Woops, sorry, forgot about how much time it's been since the last post in the SEV forum and how many posts have been made in the SEIV forum since. Now that I look, they're there, just pushed onto the second page or farther down.

This is precisely true and we have had people from the beginning asking us to just morph the SEIV forum into the SEV forum. Over time the SEIV forum would die out in favor of the SEV forum, and rather than lock the SEIV forum and move it down to the archive area at the bottom, we chose to combine the forums and move it into the Shrapnel Community category along with the Starfury forum.

As you now realize, we did move all of the existing posts into this forum. You may not see them at the top of this forum because threads are automatically threaded based on last activity. The SEV forum didn't have a lot of activity yet, so the threads are probably not visible on this first page of threads. If and when someone posts to one of those threads, it will bump it back to the top.

I guess we cant knock Shrap for putting it all in one basket (but you know what they say about all eggs in one basket)

Banking on the idea that SEIV will wind down as SEV picks up is having alot of confidence in SEV. There are still some variables I dont know which might make it not quite go that way. (the beta-testers know but of course cant clarify yet)

Its also majorly going to schlock when someone tries to do a search on a subject and gets them both mixed together in the results. Talk of mods and races and keypresses and tactics.

But back to the straw post threads! Come on. One more straw. This camel aint dead yet.

I am sure if you look at the metrics of single egg basket carries damages vs multi egg basket carries damages you will see that the % of damage vs the big breaking news story that the eggs broke support this theory of combining seiv and sev.

As I recall, we simply buried them with the avalanche of answers.

The good old days of racing to try post a solution with the same timestamp as the question post, and succeeding a number of times.

But were SE3 and non-gold questions answered? Or was it a bare response with a "you should upgrade" tacked on the end? It wasnt the answers I was wondering about, it was the "feel welcome in the SEV forum" part.

Every single one of them was answered just as eagerly as questions aboute SEIV Gold were. This is about the farthest from an arrogant, elitist community that you will find on the Internet.

You're still stuck on thinking this forum is anything like the mass of losers out there on most forums.

We don't have that many people, but I am being completely literal when I say that us forumers would race to post the fastest and most complete answers.
90% of them would be answered within 30 minutes, 24/7. There were a handful of memorable ones that were posted at 11:46, and answered at 11:46, 11:47, 11:49 and 11:50. With the latter posts being edited to say "Argh, I type too slow".
The thread would then fill up with posts about minor related details and corrections.
Then the posts would turn to strategies and tactics that were related to the subject, before finally fading out.

All because somebody asked "What does armor do?", there would be a deluge of info about all the types of armor, their side effect bonuses, the weapons used to defeat them, when it is worth researching them, and which combat strategy is best used with them.

Compared to something like the counterstrike forums, you will see orders of magnitude fewer people, orders of magnitude faster and infinitely more useful answers.

Interesting theory but way off the mark. I have no low opinions of this forum and the people in it. Quite the contrary. Someday in a forum far far away I might fill in the blanks. But I totally recognize this as one of the great communities on the net.

I wasnt around then so that is good to hear. Im not convinced yet that the SEIV and SEV communities wont split as others have with sequels. So if we are going to be put into one forum for both then that willingness will be welcome.

The SEIV and SEV communities most definitely will split. The question is whether or not it would split here. Since Shrapnel isn't publishing SEV, there's little reason to think that new players who pick up SEV at mass retail stores will make their way here. My impression is that this particular forum is for people who started with SEIV (or before) and will soon move on to SEV. Occasionally, some new people may wander in, as you have by way of Dom2, but I doubt that there will be enough new people to split the forum here.

Strat-1st doesnt even seem to provide forums. All of the games seem to have forums but they all seem to be provided by the games developers. All different and on all different systems. Which is another reason to cherish these forums since my conversations with Aaron long ago about what it would take to "bring him back" leads me to believe that any forums he puts up will have quite a different feel to them.

I know that this forum is 90% of the traffic here (and 90% of the CPU and 90% of the archive). Thats alot of good info built up over the years

Coming in late (but what the heck!). Of all the forums I frequent, this one is hands down nicest and requires the least amount of warnings and barrings.

Yep its way sweet. And it IS the community here. Shrap has already upgraded 3 times for us. Software, forum server, backup server.
