Where are we at with SE:V?

I was wondering were we are at with SE:V? I've piecing this together but I still cannot find a definative post that lists all new features and improved features. Even Malfador's site doesn't say any thing. So how about we start are own confirmed features. Then add and remove as testing completes. Here is what I can tell will be in the up coming game:
-3D graphics and combat
-Improved ship design
-Governments types that effect game play
-Homeworlds

Does anyone else have a more detailed list?

Sure do.

Check http://www.captainkwok.net/se5info.php

I do have an updated list but I need to get MM's approval before I can post it.

Other than what MM has said in some public chats (cited by Kwok) there is no substantial information. For good reason. It's changing all the time. The beta is a pretty wild ride at the moment. He strips something out and a bunch of us complain while others cheer. He posts a question on whether something ought to be added or changed and we debate pro and con out to 10 pages or more (the beta forum is sort of like this one where the threads get paginated). It's chaos. ANY list produced now is guaranteed not to resemble the finished product.

Re: Where are we at with SE:V?

Frankly unless there are space monkeys, and lots of them, it will be a crushing disappointment.

Of course if there are space monkeys wearing fezs then the game is destined for the greatest critical aclaim and success.

Its a simple formula really.

Re: Where are we at with SE:V?

Right, nude space monkeys, wearing fez's

Wait, if they're wearing a fez, are they really nude?

My, are we bored here, or what?

Well, then, here's something for your entertainment

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM STRATEGY FIRST GAMING

Dear fans of Space Empires IV and V, we here at Strategy First wish to thank you all for your emails and comments about our up coming new titles however it is with a heavy heart that we must announce that do to fiscal cut backs here at Strategy First, the on going development of Space Empires V has been placed on hold. The light at the end of the tunnel had to be turned off and for that we sincerely appologize. - SF CEO

No its only twice the nudity, not completely.

The monkeys get to keep the fezs and waistcoats. Any fez wearing monkey should have a waistcoat, its practically a law. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

That's a relief. I thought the light at the end of the tunnel was the oncoming train of SEV being as disappointing as MOO3.

What I love most about SEV is the inclusion of the Uber Max race, the Nude Furlings.

Re: Where are we at with SE:V?

do we know anything about the system requirements seV will have? I'm kind of worried that my ancient comp might not be able to handle it... will it require a spiffy 3d graphics card?

also, how much will it cost? (not that cost is an issue...)

Renegade 13 June 14th, 2005 10:48 PM

Re: Where are we at with SE:V?

We (the beta testers) can't really say what the sys. requirements will be. Mostly for 2 reasons:

1: We are in the early beta testing phase, so as the game changes (which it invariably will) the system requirements would probably change slightly. And...

2: I'm not sure, but it may be a violation of the NDA we all had to sign if we were to speculate on something like the possible system spec's needed prematurely. It may lead to unrealistic expectations (and more importantly, might lead to me getting kicked out of the beta! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif )

So you're not likely to get an answer on the likely system spec's required, since only beta testers and Malfador would know, and probably aren't allowed to tell.

As for cost, I think only Malfador and Strategy First are privy to that information at this time.

Sorry I can't help you out very much!

Part of the new sys-req's will be a Teflon©-coated graphics card. The new shield design category is called "buttered toast" and it sticks in a regular card.

My. $0.02

You might post your old machines specs and see if any of the beta testers happen to have a machine close to that.

Re: Where are we at with SE:V?

Ordonnance or ordinances can be quite interesting though.

"Given the provisions of our previous agreements, namely articles III-324 and IV-456 of the Beta Aquinae - Coruprimus treaty,
Considering the actions committed by the offending body, in violation of the aforementioned agreements,
In light of your proclamation that all such agreements are to be considered void and without efect henceforth,
We, acting with the full consent of our peers, and representing the interests of our state, hereby declare your people to be in a state of flagrant illegality, punishable under the terms of the General Villain Agreement, part VII through X (articles IX-987 through IX-1034 notwithstanding).

Given your failure to acquaint yourself before this tribunal, despite repeated requests to do so, as per the Commonplace Routine of Justice (relevant articles mentioned in footnote 17.2), the inquiry shall proceed without hearing the case of the offending party. Conclusive evidence presented by the prosecution has been enough to warrant the verdict of the present tribunal: the offending party is fully guilty on all charges presented therein, including, but not limited to: manslaughter, actus reus, high treason, wholesale destruction of propriety (including several planets), and miscellaneous abuses.

As per the 174th Statute of the Great Dimwit Flathead, the present tribunal has been empowered to enact retribution on the offending party. As such, we, acting on the behalf of the Flathead Holdings, at their express request, and with their full consent, without prejudicing on regal prerogatives, hereby declare the offending party to be in a state of undeclared hostility towards our people, state which shall be addressed with all the means at our disposal, up to totemisation, should the relevant authorities estimate such remedies to be in good order.

Ergo, the following ordinance nulls ownership of the offending vessels currently trespassing in the Betelgeuse system, and confiscate those ships for the common interest of the civil institutions. Failure to comply with the present proclamation shall result in the maiming of any and all offending bodies, followed by the destruction of the aforementioned vessels, if time permits. To all civil servants part of the defensive institutional bodies: you are expressly bestowed with the unlimited capability to exert deadly force on any target with unfriendly intentions.

The following document has been dictated by the Highest Court of Justic of the Great Underground Empire, and has been endorsed for public circulation by the Circumstantial Office of Approval. The signatories, the list of which can be found in Annex B-4, specifically pledge the present document has been done without causing any breach whatsoever in standing legal procedures.

Done in Port Foozle, in the Day of the Magnificent Grue, in the name of Dimwit Flathead."

Re: Where are we at with SE:V?

That was the purpose. If you declare war on someone, you should really hurt them as much as possible... and that includes doing some work on the declaration of war itself.

"Your cities will burn with our vengeful fire!" is so mundane, don't you think?

Don't be silly Narf, or I shall summon the lawyers over there at the Dom 2 boards... and I might even bring in Growltigger to bear. Would you care for a handful of trials for libel, and assorted charges?

There should be an association to protect lawyers. Really!

The general feeling is that the blood sucking sun light fearing buggers have enough money to protect themselves.

But then what protection is there from a good old traditional unruly mob with pitchforks? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Besides, you misread the usage of 'descend'.

Airborne lawyers are just silly, unless at night. They can barely survive the suns rays at ground level, taking them up higher during day light hours is suicide...
