Deployment Bug

First of all, a round of applause to SPCAMO and Shrapnel Games
for a great release.

After installing this game and attempting to deploy multiple units in a hex using shift click the program freezes. Upon alt-tabbing out and closing "AVI Chunk-viewer" the game is restored. The same situation occurs with both shift keys and leaves me unable to stack units. Any help would be appreciated.

What operating system are you running this under?. Full screen DirectX, or windowed mode DirectX or perhaps windowed mode GDI graphics?.

What is this "AVI Chunk-viewer" programme you are running?.

That would seem to be the problem. Try running the game without this programme running in the background. It may be part of some sort of video streaming application perhaps?.

Re: Deployment Bug

I am running Windows XP. The problem occurs in both windowed and full-screen mode. The program seems to be generated by the SPMBT Win application itself, since after alt-tabbing out of functional SPMBT Win it isnt there. It only appears after I attempt to shift click. It has the SPMBT logo within it. No video programs whatsoever are running in the background.

After a quick google on "AVI Chunk Splitter" I got several hits, the following of which may be of interest (It also has a pointer to how to get rid of it).

http://www.click-now.net/forums/lofi....php/t832.html

This posting points us at a programme called "AVI Splitter" which you may recogise as a utility or codec you installed?

Ah - you probably have installed "AVI Splitter", since a google on that brings up many more hits than the previous one. And it appears to play about with MPEG (MP3 is an MPEG format) files.

http://www.media4pc.com/ would be a place to start, or fire up google and input AVI Splitter as your search key, there seem to be various ones from various folks!

You will need to find out which one you have installed, and how to get it disabled or removed, if not actually used.

The game uses MP3 sound - if you need the codec for something then
- Turn sound off in preferences (bothj battle sounds and effects sounds).
- Go to the front page of the Gameoptions launcher, and set the show introducton to off (That is a DirectShow application)
- On the Misc tab, set the interface mouse click to off as well.

See if that lets the game play on your machine, before going on to remove the codec. If it does, turn more of those back on till it stops working, then go back 1 step http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

It may be that the chunk splitter codec you have installed on your machine is only operating on the larger MP3 files, which are the 2 used for the battle background sounds. So I would start with turning off the "battle FX" first.

That's MOST strange, indeed!

I wonder if your mouse hardware is generating over-bounce or such like when the microswitch is being pressed?.

The click sound is rather small, and the only way I could se this happen is if something generated maybe a few hundred calls per click..

Or - more likely - that software I mentioned reported earlier, may be intercepting sound files only on a mouse click event (one of the googled reports mentioned a click on an AVI file) ??.

Simply weird things, PCS! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Bug Update

Whoops ! It appears that turning off interface mouse only works in the deployment screen and the same crash occurs when attempting to stack units during a battle. Turning off all sfx fixes this problem. I wonder if it is possible for me to remap the stack-click ?

Re: Bug Update

I tried to dupe the problem, and I was able to stack units to my hearts content without any crash. I think MobHack is right in that something in the background, possibly your AVI util, is causing the problem.

I have the same problem, but I have been unable to get rid of the AVI Chunk Viewer / AVI Splitter. Help?

Re: Bug Update

Same over here. Turing off the sounds helps but doesn't fix the problem, it only bypasses it. I guess theres something wrong with a few moving sounds or animations?
