Biggest shipset *ever*. Meta-compatible. Released!
I've recently dowloaded DoGA L3 (great program for the beginning 3D modeler) and I've begun work on a shipset. Now, that isn't too much of a problem (in fact it's no problem at all), but I want to make this shipset more than Neo++ compliant. Is there a list somewhere with all types of vehicle pics, used by any mod? Or at least a list of all Neo++ vehicle pics?
All types are welcome, even when used by some ancient, obscure mod. I mean every type, so that includes things like Research Station, Elite Infantry, the Shuttle pics from STM, etc. |
Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Dogscoff's website has a list of neostandard names:

Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Thank you Kwok. Do you (or does anybody) know a site with Neo++ names?

Why does TransportHuge appear as a secondary image? It's not a stock image... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Attached is a (fixed) list of all of the ship images called for in Adamant.

Take a look at my Sev set. The link is in my signature below.

Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
The STM uses Neo-Standard with the exception that it also uses:
Juggernought Shuttle I Shuttle II Shuttle III Shuttle IV Shuttle V |

Hit refresh when you get an error, because the wiki don't work too well. |

After only several days of lurking, designing and rendering, I have finally managed to complete all pics. I only need to compile them into a folder and supply some AI files, and then I'm ready to release the biggest shipset ever. Bigger even than the Sev.
Fully Neostandard and Neo++ compliant, full Adamant and STM compatibility, it even has its own Battlemoon. Now, compiling all these images and their minis is going to take some time, so here is a, well, let's say, "appetizer". A 1024x768 rendition of a Bartelian Coalition Starliner in orbit over a Rock/Oxy planet. (OK, just a standard DoGA background, but what the heck. It doesn't even look like Earth, or at least from this angle.) |

And another pic; a fleet of a Juggernought, two Baseships and five Battleships in orbit around a Rock/Oxy planet.
Yes. That is to scale. Not the scale in which I created it, but relative scale. This is not the Fleet pic. That one had the Juggernought and Baseships as they are here, but it had 3 disproportional Battleships and a swarm of Corvettes instead of 5 proportional Battleships. The Corvettes were grouped in small wings of 3 ships, usually performing barrel-rolls or flying at an angle, but due to some thing I can't comprehend, every time I save it the Corvettes revert to the position in which they were copied into the file - in a diagonal line, at the same height and level. Re: Biggest shipset *ever*. Meta-compatible.
Reminds me of the BOB shipset, which is never a bad thing. I think it's the big gun metal grey covered in guns look combined with the yellow stripe.
However it is clearly a different set and is most shiny. Nice work fella. |

Third and last pic before release: A pair of Heavy Interceptors being launched simultaneously from a Carrier, while two Heavy Cruisers escort the aforementioned Carrier.
*************** I will need an appropriate AI, as well as a BigExplosion, Shields and Main pics. Currently, all have been taken from the Jraenar, with some modifications to the Main and, of course, a partially modified AI_General. If anyone's interested in doing any of these things, contact me via PM or e-mail. *************** The reason it looks like the Bob is because this shipset and the Bob (and the Sol Coalition and Sev and Shadri and Spaceshark and So On) were all created using the basic parts provided by DoGA L3. |
Re: Biggest shipset *ever*. Meta-compatible.
Excellent stuff- I'm loving the fleet pics. What are you using for race portraits?

I had scanned something a while back which I thought would become the race portrait, but it was a glittery sticker and the pic was riddled with strange darkish shapes as a result. I've taken a pic from "I, Robot" with a small group of robots.
Oh, I forgot to tell you: You won't know how the Bartelians (that's their name, the Bartelian Coalition) look. They communicate using the aforementioned robots (called Communicants), and the leader name will be a Communicant's designation, to simulate the fact that other empires relay messages through the Communicant. Oh, I know how they're supposed to look, but I'm not going to tell anyone..... *************** I am more than pleased to announce the release of the Bartelian Coalition! Currently, it features an AI, Main, BigExplosion and Shields taken from the Jraenar. I need someone to code an appropriate AI and to create unique pics. If you're interested, PM or e-mail me. Also, if anyone knows of any more ship images I haven't created yet, tell me and I'll update it. |

Re: Biggest shipset *ever*. Meta-compatible. Relea
I am liking the carrier concept. It looks like it could actually launch fighters. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Sparkly!
|
Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Assuming the reddish orange area on the carrier is the engines/exhaust, how does it not just spin in a circle whenever it tries to move? The engines need to be located centrally or have another engine on the other side to counterbalance the thrust and prevent spinning.
|
Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Suggestion: Add a Glow map to the engines.
|
Re: Biggest shipset *ever*. Meta-compatible. Relea
If by "glow map" you mean "increased emittion" (as DoGA calls it), it won't show at all.
The Bartelians employ an intricate inertia-nullification field generator, which erects an energy field around the ship and "pulls the inertia away from the fighter bays and puts it right in front of the engines" to put it simply. I could have just said that they used very powerful engines so the effect would be negligible, but I just wanted to say this. |

Re: Biggest shipset *ever*. Meta-compatible. Relea
It looks wrong? Oh. I just thought it looked nice. But now that you mention it, it does look kind of strange.
Less technobabble, still an explanation: The Bartelians' on-board computers on Carriers (Carriers, not Light or Heavy Carriers, just Carriers) continually makes slight course modifications to adjust for the spin. Essentially, the ship makes a constant turn left when traveling in a straight line. Not that it flies at an angle; it just compensates continually. |
Re: Biggest shipset *ever*. Meta-compatible. Relea
In order to not spin, your thrust would have to be going out in line with your center of mass, and the ship would be basically flying diagonally.
Course corrections aren't really possible when you can't turn right, or even slow down a leftwise turn once you start. What you'd need is some smaller thrusters on the far side to counteract the torque provided by the main engines. If the extended arm of the one-sided carrier bay isn't too heavy, (probably mostly open cargo/launch space), you'd only need a small thruster at the end, since torque is force cross (vector multiplication) distance. |
Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Looks not bad, not bad at all. I really like the satellite.

Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Those ships look great! Very nice work. I especially like the fleet picture. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Updated Bartelians, with glowing engine flames, secondary thrusters on the Carrier fighter bays (only Carrier, not CarrierLight or CarrierHeavy, just Carrier) and a Heighliner pic. (Don't worry, I've named it Highliner to have it appear in the Highliner Mod, but the actual 'Liners from the Dune universe are called Heighliners. That's why.)

Fixed CarrierSmall and some issues with the race portrait. Also added full DN4 compatibility - this shipset now exceeds the size of the Sev by far. No offence TerranC, the Sev are great, but no longer the biggest.
Yes, full DN4 compatibility, including a Zero-G Trooper, C.H.O.N. Factory, Type-1 and 2 Troops for each size except Massive, Tugboats etc. edit: Fixed error regarding Research Outpost mini (Bartelian_Mini_ResearchOutposi. Everyone makes typos now and then http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ) |

Beautiful (if I may say so) rendition of a scene in orbit around a planet; a Tugboat is just finishing construction of a Corvette, whilst a large Freighter undocks from a Cargo Station in the background. A War Station hovers in orbit some distance away guarding the ships and the planet below.

Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Looks good. 5/5.
|
Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Very nice.
I think I may have figured out what has been poking the back of my mind about all the renders done over the years... Perfect focus at all distances. With the eye or any camera, you can only focus at one distance; anything closer or farther than that should be blurred to some degree. I wonder how you get a ray tracer to handle focus issues... |
Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
You'd have to do the bluring manualy..
|
Re: List of all types of vehicle pics?
Perhaps (in DoGA) add a "screen" of almost fully transparent, utterly non-reflective material in front of it. That might provide somewhat of a "blur" effect. I haven't tried it though, and I can't right now, but it might work.

Latest Update.
Full list of compatibility: -Stock -Neostandard -Neo++ -Adamant Mod -Star Trek Mod -Dark Nova Mod -Highliner Mod -Eclipse Mod (New!) And of course all mods who use images from any of these mods. If anyone knows of a ship size or mod with ship sizes which I didn't add, please PM or email me. Next update will feature a massive change in the ship portrait style. I'm not going to say what that's going to be right now, just that if you liked my "teaser" renditions, you'll like this change..... |

This small compilation was done in ~30 minutes, 45 max.
If you're talking about the shipset, well, yeah, that's been at least several days of work doing approx. 3 hours (I guess) a day making these models, so I think at least somewhere in the vicinity of 10 hours. Thank Cthulhu for the fact that DoGA's so easy to use! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif edit: 'Nother update; a 1024x768 JPEG rendition of the 128x128 bitmap of the Colony Ship. One of my personal favorites; what you think aboot de colony dome? |

1024x768 rendition of the Light Carrier portrait;
A Light Carrier, escorted by a Gunboat and two Corvettes, is flying over a planet while the entire group tries to avoid the heavy ground fire. One of the Corvettes has received a hit to their right wing. |
