OT- For crying out loud!
It's getting so you can't blow up stuff in space without someone trying to get in on the action.
http://edition.cnn.com/2005/TECH/spa...eut/index.html Hopefully if this goes to court they can make a legal precedent showing astrology is a load of nonsense, or perhaps when she takes the stand and declares astrology is real they can arrest her for perjury. |
Re: OT- For crying out loud!
Kinda makes you wonder don't it..... do these people actually BELIEVE what they're doing?
As for this case, well, I'd be mighty surprised if it will end in favor of the astro-loonie if the case is held in a US court..... and vice versa. |
Re: OT- For crying out loud!
Three words.......PEOPLE ARE STUPID

Re: OT- For crying out loud!
Well since astrology is a rip off perhaps she's progressed to the next level to rip off Nasa. It's probably something like
"I am going to sue you for $300 million, but I might be convinced to settle out of court for a few million, save you having court costs" but since I would think that sort of scam would be common, they probably have something where the plaintiff is ordered to pay court costs for wasting everyones time. I think the way you think of astrologers shows how you think of people in general. It's either "Well they are obviously lying" ie. everyone is trying to rip off people, or "Well they must somehow think they're right" ie they're all stupid. |
Re: OT- For crying out loud!
Ooh, ooh, I'm going to sue this woman for breaking wind. It altered the weather here and I had a bad day because of it!!!!!
|
Re: OT- For crying out loud!
I'd imagine this would be tossed out of court before it ever went anywhere. The Astrologer is probably looking for some publicity.

Re: OT- For crying out loud!
Or money, Like the woman who tried sueing Wendys for the finger she put into her own chili.

Re: OT- For crying out loud!
*shakes head*
You know, the US "sue happy" legal system just invites this sort of thing, too. I am not surprised that people in other countries are now trying to jump on the band wagon. You don't see this sort of case being brought in other countries. Although, I honestly think this "case" won't go anywhere either, as Kwok already stated. |
Re: OT- For crying out loud!
The only way astrology ever works with a reasonable degree of accuracy and consistency is when its predictions are so general and vague that they can be interpreted to fit almost anyone. I really hope this case gets laughed out of existence before it ever gets so far as an actual court.

Re: OT- For crying out loud!
Interesting Claim in that story. Shes probably protecting herself from unhappy clients with this claim.
From what i vaguely remember modern astrology charts have little to do real positions of the objects they use to make their predictions. The positions of the objects have changed quite a bit from the ancvient times when astrology first began. So from that aspect alone her claim is bunk. her claim also illustrates how little she knows but astronomy/astrophysics, i have read impact was equivalent to a fly hitting a windshield in terms of its effect on the comets course. sadly their is rarely any consequence to filing a frivolous lawsuit in the US, as long as its not fraud. There was a guy (he may still be at it) who the airlines hate. He flies regularly for free by sueing them after the flight. He his first order of business when getting on the plane to find anything he can use as a basis for a suit. A scam artist who hides behind technicalities. |

Hell there was a guy not long ago in the states that sued a guy he got into a car accident with because he claimed that getting rear ended in the accident turned him gay, then his wife sued the guy for $250,000 dollars for ruining her husband's ability to "satisfy her womanly needs". The defendent said that the guy hit the breaks and there was no way NOT to hit him but mister "I'm gay now" somehow won. I do love what a friend of mine ahd said though "I thought you got rear ended after you turned gay?" |

Re: OT- For crying out loud!
Hey, why work for a living when you can whine and sue somebody?
Reminds me of that old episode of Married with Children where the one guy breaks into the house, and Al punches him. The guy sues Al for it, and wins, so Al punches him in court and countersues him for hurting his hand. |
Re: OT- For crying out loud!
I didn't know that comets are part of astrology. I thought they consider stars and planets but not comets. How could astrologers take into account the effects of all these comets, most of them which we don't even know they exist until they come close enough for our telescopes to detect.
|
Re: OT- For crying out loud!
Well remember a comet could look like a star back in the day before they knew what a star was so it's probobly a coverall for every peice of crap that's moving out there.

Re: OT- For crying out loud!
In my country (Finland) this woman would have been laughed off from the court. But she would have made a good profit of selling this story into gossip magazines and complaining how her work is made impossible by government. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
