Stargate SG1 - Season 9

I hate to say it guys but I think they have finally runined this show. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Not because they brought Ben Bowder onboard but because they have turned Amdanda Tapping into a sex symbol and have embarked upon the cheap road to "redesigning the show." Now don't get me wrong, the new character additions are cool, but turning Amanda Tapping into a sexy military chick is totally against her established character and is mostly playing hollywood politics.

I cannot help but feel as though the show has taken on the cheap fast paced, story weak, cheap special effects that the sci-fi show is natorious for. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Regardless, I will still watch and enjoy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

You mean...Stargate is actually having a season 9?? I thought they were done after Season 8!?!?

Will July 7th, 2005 03:42 PM

Re: Stargate SG1 - Season 9

IIRC, it was only Richard Dean Anderson that said Season 8 was his last. And since he's lead actor, and Executive Producer, it was kinda assumed that the show would die. But, it seems SciFi makes too much money off the two shows, so they march on...

Nice to see Ben Browder getting back into the limelight though. I might have to start watching at least a little TV now... he was great on Farscape. And it seems Claudia Black is making a short run on the show as well.

Re: Stargate SG1 - Season 9

Sounds like they are done, or at least on the downhill. Richard Dean Anderson WAS the show, and with him in alot less I don't think the rest of the cast can make up for what he brought to the show. Although Michael Shanks seem to be getting Richard's line. I agree though about Amanda's new role, it just doesn't fit right. I suppose they could have her retire and stay on as a civillian. that would open up the romance avenue, but I think that would create more problems. Unfortunatly it looks like this could be the last season. Have to see if Atlantis gets better. I'm still not sure if I like that one yet.

Atrocities July 7th, 2005 04:06 PM

Re: Stargate SG1 - Season 9

Richard Dean Anderson was pretty much tired of the show after four seasons. He has been lack luster in his appearances since then and if you saw the shoot schedules for the show you would see that most of his stuff is done around his personal schedule and that more often than not does not include the other cast members.

If Ben and Bridges can bring new life into the show then that is fine with me. I am just ticked about them turning Amanda Tapping from scientist to sex symbol. Oh don't get me wrong, she is an attractive women, but changing her character so late in the game is nothing more than a Seven Of Nine Hollywood political sexist tactic.

Seconded! I'm looking forward to it to be honest, It won't be the same SG1 we know and love without RDA, but after watching Farscape i'm impressed by Ben Bowder and his character concept sounds good! When I say concept I mean the fact he's just a generic soldier with no alien/weird/kewl powers.

As for Amanda Tapping turning into a "sex-symbol" point i Have to agree with your views. But considering the long drawn out Jack/Carter relationship, and the fact he's technically a civillian now, hopefully means they get together and they don't have Carter turning into a female "Captain Kirk" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Happy *21st* Birthday! If the celebration involves your first legal beer, don't overdo it.

I think the term is "Jumped The Shark". Referring to when Fonzi on "Happy Days" was water skiing and had to jump a shark to complete a competition. In other words, the pivotal moment in a show when it all goes downhill. Go to www.jumptheshark.com for those great moments in your favorite shows. I'll still watch though. I started watching SG1 about a year ago and have some backward catching up to do. SG Atlantis is pretty good too.

Thanks to both of you. First legal beer is probably true, although it will probably be something a bit harder... I've developed a tolerence over the last few years of college http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

But don't worry, I won't overdo it. I'll be holding back for a while since I have to do a few 8-5 shifts in the next few days, and I have a big group assignment due which most likely will involve me doing the project, and the rest of my group saying something like "oh, that's how it works..."

So that unfortunately means the 21st celebration is postponed to... sometime around mid- to late-August. I just look at it as a way to combine belated birthday celebrations and moving parties.

Ben and Claudia together again that should definately be sweet.

Well I don't know if I like Bridges though I've never been impressed with him as an actor so they better do his character to play up to his talent-in other words keep his lines to a minimum- and I'll be happy.

I have to admit I did love that line "Uh could you tell me which way the stargate is?"

I've only recently seen the previews, and I'd have to agree with Atrocities for the most part. Course I won't be seeing any of the new season any time soon, on account of my not having cable or dish. I only get to watch reruns.

I have a very big poster of her in my office. She's a very nice piece of nature. I wouldn't mind having her around for real.

I have been watching this show for to long to stop now, I have to see the end of the story. This season or the next will be the last, but I am all for them going for a few more seasons. Once they hit ten it will be the longest running scifi show ever beating X-Files. At I think 11 seasons it will be the longest running show ever besides game shows and things of that sort, news, game show, etc.

Not so. M*A*S*H ran for 11 years. And Bonanza ran for 14 years. The all-time record holder, though, is Gunsmoke at 20 years.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047736/...c=1;ft=20;fm=1
At 20 years and 633 episodes, the longest-running American prime-time drama TV series to date. (2003)

(And James Arness holds the record for playing the longest single role as the star of that series, Marshall Dillon.)

I wouldn't be surprised to see The Simpsons hit 20 years, though. It's already the longest running animated series at 16 years.

Kelsey Grammer equalled that record (perhaps even overtook it). James Arness reportedly, from Grammer's own mouth, was bitter about losing his record and refused to even meet him.

According to the show news, a new season of both SG1 and SGA start this summer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Unfortunately, I don't think it'll be as soon as this summer in Canada http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif After all, we just finished Season 9 last week.

Oh well, I can wait till this fall as long as I get another season. I can seriously see this show continuing for quite a few more seasons as long as the stories continue to be strong, and the cast well suited to their roles.

(((Stargate, my favorite show)))

Re: Stargate SG1 - Season 9

I just have to say a few things...

stargate sg1 and tlantis is my favourite show on tv at the moment and I own All dvds that are currently out, watched every episode multiple times, I love the show so much!

Anyway, I think the new direction for the show is interesting, you simply can not have one enemy and one cast for almost 10 years now, What they are doing is brilliant!

Atrocities, from one of your earlier posts, where you said about RDA being tired of the show, that was not true, for the past 3-4 series, he has simply had a reduced role because he wanted to spend more time with his family, and he is back in several episodes of series 10 ( www.gateworld.net )

Anyway, just wanted to say, I really like the show, and frankly it would be boring if they did not experiment and try new things! I love it!

lastly, the reason I posted this is because I am a member of so many diffrent forums, but whenever I see a bad comment in a thread about SG1, I just feel like I should say, not everyone hates it! Frankly they are having their 200th episode this season... they must be doing something right! there has always been people saying I hate this, I hate that since series 1, yet it lives on!

Atrocities March 31st, 2006 11:20 AM

Re: Stargate SG1 - Season 9

I don't know where I read that RDA had grown tired of the show, I think I watched an interview with him in it and he said he was ready for a break. Any ways, I am glad that he is coming back in some small part and will even be gracing SGA.

Now to the rumor mill that they will be killing off a Major character by mid season 10. Any bets on who it will be? My vote is on Dr. Jackson, second would be Carter. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Re: Stargate SG1 - Season 9

They'd better not kill off Carter!

Same with Teal'c, he's got some awesome lines and delivers them perfectly.

Daniel: It’s not meant to be taken literally, but we have seen a lot of legends and folklore have a strong basis in fact - Avalon, Atlantis…
Teal’c: The Easter Bunny.
Daniel, Mitchell pause, look strangely at Teal'c.
Daniel: I guess there’s a few exceptions.
