Word of Undead [Canceled]

Tuesday, July 26, 2005
My computer is too screwed up to do anything right now. Once
my computer seems to be working, I'll RESTART our game and
send each of you a PM to see if you're still interested. For
now, this game is canceled.

Tuesday, July 26, 2005
Please e-mail me at Argitoth@gmail.com for any problems,
concerns, or excuses. Gmail notifier will let me know right
away when you send an e-mail.

Tuesday, July 26, 2005
I'm sure the server will be stable from now on. You are
expected to visit this thread regularly and take your turn
every 24 hours. Eventually I'll slow it down to 48 or 72,
but your turn will be skipped if you fail to take your turn
on time! If for some reason you will be late in taking your
turn you are expected to POST THE EXCUSE in this thread.
Doing so will let me know to pause the hosting time for you.

Tuesday, July 25, 2005
The power in my whole neighborhood went out. It's on again
as you can see and te server is UP! GOGOGO!

Tuesday, July 25, 2005
Wow, I reset the BIOS, reformatted my harddrive and
everything is running perfectly. Let's get this game going!
SERVER UP!!!! Pythium, take your dam turn!

Tuesday, July 23, 2005
My computer is so badly unuseable that I can no longer
reformat and install a fresh copy of windows. The server
will not be up untill I can get my computer to work. Luckily
I have everything backed up so there's no need to worry
about data loss. I'm taking it to a professional computer
repair service. I won't be online much as of now.

Tuesday, July 22, 2005
IP: 70.176.220.146 Port: 4005, take your dam turns! NOW!
The server will quickhost or host every 24 hours. I will
slow it down to 48 or 72 late-game.

Tuesday, July 19, 2005
I'm a bit worried about Archaeolept. He has only one reply
for this thread and has never sent his pretender. I am
removing him from the list until he makes an appearance.
That will leave only 7 of us. I will not start without at
least 8. Word of Undead is open for players again. You will
be required to revisit this thread throughout the progress
of the game.

IMPORTANT: Resubmit your pretender with Zen's pretender
mod. Make sure you PASSWORD your file. Remember, you
can send me your pretender file as many times as you want,
I'll use the last one sent.

Sharivar map. Cool. That's a good one. Should be interesting if we get 10 players. The fighting will start early.

94 degrees in my apartment tonight, the computer keeps overheating, but I'd like one of the slots.

I'll check again on sunday: if there are still slots open I might be interested in one. I think i'm about to get knocked in one of the other games i'm in. =(

Hello.

What sort of time controls are you planning? I am mainly interested in slower games, 48 hours is minimum for me.

thanks, Turms

For the beginning 24 hours a turn. I will slow down to 48 hors as turns take longer. That will be around turn 45.

Oh man, last year I'd start a game thread and it'd fill up within hours to a few days. When are you going to sign up!?

Settings are cool.
I want in as Pythium.

Are you planing to use any mods?

Whollaborg July 14th, 2005 09:57 AM

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

I sent Argitoth mine Marignon pretender set for no mods.

I'd like to have zen's conseptual balance mods and Turin's Hero Mod. Zen's magic might be essential in cutting down clamhording which could get annoying.

Yours,
Whollaborg

Can someone link me to those balance mods so I can see the changes? I'll consider pretender, heroes, and scales. What about the infantry balance mod?

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

I'm just going to keep it simple. No mods. Next time I should decide what mods we should use before creating a thread for a game.

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

Six players now? That's close to enough, imo, for this map, if you want to get started. I'm open to waiting another day or two though. 10 players would be a blast.

Argitoth July 15th, 2005 03:00 AM

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

I've been testing this map with 10 players. The battles are intense at the right time without being too soon, too late, or too crowded. 10 players is a must. Maybe 9 if we can't get anyone else.

Spells mod?

Cainehill July 17th, 2005 02:01 PM

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

Spells mod does a number of things, including making it a lot harder for people to do Wrathful Skies. Also makes other spells (Army of Lead & Gold, Legions of Steel) somewhat easier.

Summonings, the elemental royalty (and I think the unique devils) are harder to obtain, while a lot of the others that don't get used much were improved.

I wouldn't mind, especially as the same pretenders can be used, and it helps tame Caelum if only a little bit. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

After all this time, you now decide to switch to using mods and make everyone have to upload new pretenders, thus delaying the game more???

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

nah, that's great. I was already creating abusive ghost king pretenders ... ;p

Argitoth July 18th, 2005 02:20 AM

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

Cainehill, WHINER! This has a three-fold affect on improving the gameplay.

#1. If you didn't have a passworded pretender, you should have one now.
#3. You probably rethought your pretender setup and made improvements.
#2. Everything is a little more balanced

Note: You can send me your pretender file as many times as you want, I'll use the last one sent.

Cainehill July 18th, 2005 09:44 AM

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

#1 : I had a password protected pretender.
#2 : I had spent hours working on the previous one - now I start a new job today requiring research when I'm not working so I don't have the bloody time to do it again, only to have you waste my time again by changing the rules, as you've wasted everyone else's time.

Argitoth July 18th, 2005 12:48 PM

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

Not everything is about you, Cainehill.

WraithLord July 18th, 2005 03:14 PM

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

This time I agree with Cainehill.
Usually the rules are discussed and set before pretender are sent.
Once the pretenders are sent rules shouldn't change.
It isn't fair towards all the players that invested time in researching for an optimal pretender.

I also disagree on two of the three "improvements" as probably most (if not all) pretenders are passwd protected and surely people thought about their setup PRIOR to sending the pretender.

Argitoth July 18th, 2005 04:04 PM

Re: TCP/IP Open to All [2/10 Slots]

It's your choice the send a pretender whenever you would like, but we've been discussing what mods to use if any and there were many requests for Zen's mods through e-mails and even discussion on this thread. Even Cainehill wanted Spells mod. The only mistake you could accuse me of was listening.

Arholly July 18th, 2005 06:56 PM

Arholly, I sent in my pretender. I'll send it again when I get home.

Welp - 14 hours working today, this week at least is going to stay like this, so I don't have time to test out new pretender setups.

So - my slot is now open, because I'm dropping out.

Against my better judgement, but... I'll fill caine's spot if we use the Moderation mod.

Re: Word of Undead - Looking for players [7/10]

heh, sorry i've been pretty busy - i'll keep vanheim, and I should be able to send in a pretender late tonight. - like caine, I've been a bit busy the last day to design a new pretender.

oh, btw, are we using the version of shaharivar w/ preplaced specials, or the "free" version?

Argitoth July 19th, 2005 01:56 PM

Re: Word of Undead - Looking for players [7/10]

not the (free) version.. Where can you find a description of what means what on the map?

archaeolept July 19th, 2005 10:55 PM

Re: Word of Undead - Looking for players [7/10]

examine the .map file. it will list provinces by number and what is there. its full of goodies; though i don't know what they are myself. I'm sure we can find a replacement player soon enough - its a very nice map, and the mods benefit the play.

Truper July 20th, 2005 01:07 PM

Re: Word of Undead - Looking for players [7/10]

The "Free" version is not a scenario. The standard Land of Shahrivar is a scenario with 16 vp needed to win, a large number of 2 vp provinces scattered about the map, and a cental sea province worth 7 vp. The Sunken Treasure game was played recently using the scenario.

Argitoth July 20th, 2005 01:21 PM

Re: Word of Undead - Looking for players [7/10]

aha. ok, ill just use the non-scenario.
