For Those Interested

The newest scenario of the Wild Team is now up at the Wargamer for those interested in giving it a try.

http://www.wargamer.com/gamesdepot/details.asp?sid=4055

Design: Wild Bill Wilder
bwilder@bellsouth.net

Testers: Stephen Porter, Lars Remmen, Tom DeShetler

Designer Notes: This should be played as a one player game only from the US side.

This scenario is a recreation of the US Special Forces raid on the NVA prison camp at Son Tay.

Historically it proved futile as the prisoners had been moved just prior to the attack.

The battle here, however, takes a "what if" posture. Suppose there had been United States

prisoners at the compound, and suppose the NVA action was swift and violent. What might have been the outcome? Now you can determine that for the US side.

After a C-130 gunship hits one guard post, an HH-3 enters and its mission is to further surpress the enemy guards.

Next The two helicopters carrying the attack will appear on the left. From this point you are on your own. Your helicopters have limited movement. This is to portray the time needed to find a spot to land, get in there, loaded and out again, should you choose to evacuate your prisoners.

SPECIAL NOTE (Please Read!

Objective hexes will not win this one for you alone. Keeping the prisoners alive is also imperative. Get them out if you can as soon as you can.

Scenario 42 -Operation Kingpin: 11/70 also covers the same basic premise in a different way.

Interesting scenario design...a little different from mine. The map is excellent. I'll have to give this one a try.

Re: For Those Interested

I looked over very carefully Mr. Byrikhin's scenario on Son Tay. Its a fine one. His is different from mine in that the one I did is a "What if" type of scenario, with prisoners actually being there in the compound.

The player has to try to keep them alive and get them evacuated. He also has to control the compound by game's end.

Perhaps both should be played to get different perspectives on the battle.

The map is beautifully done and I commend him for his work.

As I said Bill, "The more the Merrier" having scenarios from a number of different persectives of the same battle is "A Good Thing"(tm). The best result of all is if someone plays them both then decided to crack open a book and read about the actual events ( then maybe we get another sceanrio http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif )

Nice scenario Bill, Makes a refreshing change from charging up the hill to play "King of the castle"

Re: For Those Interested

Indeed, Don. You are right. That is always what I would like to see, more interest in the historical facts.

I like 'em a little different, Embis. Only charging up the hill or chasin' back down the hill can get routine.

That is the beauty of this game and how SP-Camo has enhanced it. Tons of tools for the scenario designer not to mention the many other goodies included.

Hi, WB!

Guess who is having great fun with WinSPMBT - your old friend of the SPWAW times, the greatest Tiger I fan in the world...

WinSPMBT surpassed all my expectatives. Good Lord, I can even - you must remember how much I fought to have this feature implemented in SPWAW - reverse a tank!!

I must find a way to find time to add a WinSPMBT page on my website - maybe you can design some special ones, with my favorite hardware - M1A1/2 Abrams and Leopard 2A4 and A6...

Nice to find you here, my friend! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

My old friend, the TIGER!

Hello Fabio! What a most pleasant surprise. I'm so thrilled to see you here.

Yes, I remember those struggles very well. This game hss some wonderful features. The editor is quite easy to use.
Its comfortable to work with.

Of course, you know I'm always honored to have a tiny spot on your website. It is quite prestigious and I'll certainly offer something there.

I hope your back has improved and you are doing well in every way!

Fabio, I haven't been to your website in quite a while.
Browsing through it brought back fond memories.
I hope you add a WinSPMBT section.

Yeah! Now I'm toying with some REALLY heavy stuff: M1A1/2 Abrams, Leopard 2A4/A6... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

WOW! WinSPMBT really ROCKS!http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

I've just got my CD yesterday, and the improvements are quite impressive. Works like a charm. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Andy, Don, & The Camo Workshop have done a terrific job with this version of SP. What I found specially interesting is that they managed to do that while keeping the installer at 100 MB.

The editor is really something, as you said. In short, I'm in love with this game.

The only little quirck I've found is with the accuracy of the guns of the MBT's from, say since the introduction of the Leo 2. There are some other oob probs, but we know, nobody can satisfy all the SP fans in regard of oob's, no matter what flavor of SP you pick.

I am struggling really hard to find some time to do a page foe WinSPMBT - this game deserves all exposure it can get.

About my bad back and other new "developments" we can talk more later... Now the time is to rejoice we are together again and there is WinSPMBT to keep us going!

It is a great pleasure to meet you here, WB! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Great looking website, Fabio. You have not lost your touch. I'm sure the guys at SP-Camo and at Shrapnel games are happy to have some solid support like this.

Great job, lots of good explanations and other things to help with the game.

Thanks for your kind words, WB. We'll see how far this one will go... As you know, and sure remembers well, I was the first one to support SPWAW, at your invitation, and we only achived what we did because of the decisive participation of friends and super-hyper-designers such as you, Brent Richards, Bryan "Marauder Mel" Melvin, Federico "Resisti" Doveri, Jim "Figmo" Falletti, and so many other talented designers, all wanting to share their work and knowledge, via scenarios, campaigns, new utilities, you name it, with our community. This, along with a healthy relationship with the game developers and publishers, will beget success.

Kind regards,

Fab
