Re: A preview of things to come?
Oh [CENSORED]..... Oh [Censored] [CENSORED]..... Somebody post there and set those guys straight!
They're probably both just frustrated 12-year-olds who are taking their psychological problems out on that forum. By the way, anybody else notice that all other messages on that forum have been removed by moderators? |
Re: A preview of things to come?
Don't give them the address here!!!
This gives new meaning to the word 'board' or would that be 'bored'? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/yawn.gif |
Re: A preview of things to come?
My... It's like watching a fight between wolves over who can be the Alpha Male....just less interesting http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

And be nice, one of them (there are only two) is a lady. This could be a chance for some of you to get your names in the Pittsburgh Observer Reporter, that's where it says she works. As a game reviewer.

Re: A preview of things to come?
Heard of the edit button? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif And must you really show that horrible sig in every single post? It wasn't that funny the first time... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: A preview of things to come?
Now I'll probably have to buy some internet-grade hip-waders.
We knew this was going to happen at some point... might as well start whipping these lost souls into a civilized shape now instead of later. |
Re: A preview of things to come?
I can hear the claxons and sirens yelling "Battlestations" in the Moderators secret war room.

Re: A preview of things to come?
[Zing!]Well, it's not like everybody here acts mature all the time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif [/Zing!]
|
Re: A preview of things to come?
Ah, but acting immaturely is a lot different from acting childish. And that, plainly put, is what these two people are doing. Although there is a probability that the second person merely posted his/her post as a joke.
I do wonder which moderator on there is responsible for deleting all other forum posts? Judging from their titles, I think they're pretty relevant posts, so why delete them? Then again, if IGN is stupid enough to make that so-called "king of the board" a moderator, well..... |
Re: A preview of things to come?
That isn't deleted posts, Strategia; that's IGN's "no thread necromancy" policy in action. Threads there are automaticlly locked by the board after a certain period of time.
|
Re: A preview of things to come?
IGN forums suck arse!
|
Re: A preview of things to come?
Thermo, if you really wanted to "show them how its done" you could have posted somthing helpful, mature, and informative.
|
Re: A preview of things to come?
Hmm... interesting. I'm curious on how those litte kiddies will make their entrance here... if ever.
But giving them "our" link is a bit tricky. I hope it won't get crowded here. |

Re: A preview of things to come?
I’m surprised at you guys. MM has decided to take the game retail, which means that the majority of the people introduced to it will be kids. And this is “the” SE forum at the moment. It’s not a private forum purely reserved for the use of a few SE hardliners. I would imagine that SG would like it to generate traffic and new customers for their games. Thing are going to change, and a lot of the old guard won’t like the results, but such is life.

Re: A preview of things to come?
That's a good point. If we really want SE5 to succeed, then we need to be prepared for a lot of new players to the game - and, if this is THE forum for SE5 then it will need to be ready.
However, I am not sure this will be the official forum - given that Shrapnel will not sell SE5, I suspect that whichever company does will have an official forum - which may very well be less rigorous (in terms of friendliness, intellectual level, maturity, etc...)... But, really this is all sort of premature...and I do sound a bit arrogant in the above statement...I am reminded of the truism that every generation thinks the newcomer generation is composed of losers/slackers who didn't suffer and grow like they did....so...nevermind! Progress is progress. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Quote:

Re: A preview of things to come?
Yeah, but maybe Fyron will offer us a private board over at SE.net. Honestly, i dont like being crowed by kids, i like the offtopic, serious talk here quite a lot.

Re: A preview of things to come?
No! It's stupid. I'm the sooper master at this board! WAH WAH WAH! Me space emperor! Ypu POOPY HEAD! BOOYAH!

Re: A preview of things to come?
I guess if change is inevitable! Bring on the kiddie crowd! But be warned that you may need more diapers then are available! The best way for them to get going here, is to start with a mature attitude. SOMETHING you will not be able to teach them over the internet. You are not their parents and all manners start at home.
Like I said before, "Don't give them the address here!" but now it's to late. Just like water seeks its own level, intelligent people/young adults will seek out an intelligent forum. Those are truly the people you'd want to stay around here! [img]/threads/images/Graemlins/icon43.gif[/img] |
Re: A preview of things to come?
While this may not be the official "official" forum, it will certainly remain the unofficial "official" forum, if you know what I mean http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: A preview of things to come?
Xrati, Your post reminds me of a true life story.
In the town where I live, a large block of land was owned by a mining company. They wanted to dig a big hole and sell off the stone. We to a look at their facility on the other side of the county and decided we had to prevent them from ruining our town. We went to the county, we went to the state, we went to the feds, and then we got some lawyers and did it all over again. Then we got some good lawyers and went after it a third time. And just for good measure we tossed in a housing development that the mining company wanted to build on the edge of their property. So we have our days in courts all over the place, and in the end we prevent the big hole but get 60+ new homes and a big bill. So I kick in my share and move on. Now the mining company has sold off the 1000+ acres and the buyer wants to build 2000+ town homes. The community gets together and led by the owners of the last new development, want to fight the developer. They say that it will ruin the value of their homes. So when they came calling on me, to see if I would contribute to the cause as I had done in the past, I declined. And then told them that I hadn’t given up on trying to keep them out! All things change, some to your liking, some not. Since I’ve been around SE, this will be the third big change. Some to my liking and some not. You can try to keep them out, but it might not be worth the cost. And in the end you will only slow them down. You’ll either have to adapt, or move on. If you want an exclusive “gated community”, then make one, it’s easy. Otherwise just sit back and see what happens. Oh, and I would assume that someone let you in here at some point. Doesn’t the rest of the world deserve the same opportunity? |
Re: A preview of things to come?
Its not that we don't want newcomers.
Its just that we have a nice, classy place here, and its a lot of work to train the feral youth of the internet into civilized behaviour. |
Re: A preview of things to come?
When first I came here (Sept. '03 if I remember correctly), I was only 16 years old. I came here for mature discussion, something that is sorely lacking in the younger age group, for the most part. And while I too do not like the idea of a having a bunch of immature "kids" coming around, I have to think of how I would have felt if someone thought of me as an "immature kid" before they even got to know who and what I am. Not too good, that much I can tell you. So I think what we have to do is make this place as welcoming as possible for ALL who want to join us here, and not make distinctions based upon age. Judge people for who they are, not how old they are.
|
Re: A preview of things to come?
A lot of internet posters that are in their 20s or 30s act just as immaturely as typical 12 year olds... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
|
Re: A preview of things to come?
Very true Fyron. But a lot of people were talking about the age of the person, not the maturity level http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
|
Re: A preview of things to come?
I dont want to keep anyone out, but challenging them with tripe like "think you've got some big ones?" isnt going to help them mature into productive members of this (or any) community.

Re: A preview of things to come?

But as soon as you start posting, your social/mental "age" is almost immediately obvious, no matter how hard you try to fake being older. A mature person can do a fairly convincing immitation of an immature character, but not the other way around. I actually had no idea of your cronological age until now, and would have guessed at least 35. The apparent age is far far more important than the actual age. |
Re: A preview of things to come?
It's odd how deceiving it can be, isn't it? How someone so young can seem so old, and vise versa. It's really too bad real life society can't be more like internet society. Here there are few preconceived notions of who/what someone will be like when the join. They are judged by their words, and by what those words reveal about their persona.
Of course, in real life people are often judged long before they even open their mouth to begin discussion. One's appearance plays the largest role, with age being high on the list as well. I just wish people would judge based upon who people ARE not who they appear to be! Well this has managed to become more of a philosophical discussion than I'd intended...now back to your regularly scheduled madness http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: A preview of things to come?
Hey guys, I have to come clean, I am only really seven years old.
|
Re: A preview of things to come?
Yea, Right! You spell to well for a seven year old http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif BUT can you color within the lines?
I came to this board many times before I joined. I read the posts and I liked the intelligent posts that I read and I judged this site on that. I read the posts on the IGN site and I believe that the site opens itself up to the people that it draws. People tend to gravitate toward points of interest. I like the fact that even on this thread that people have taken both sides. It shows a well balanced following and a good natured side of people. I am, and have been very happy to find this site (It was through the SEIV Malfador site link). My only thought is that if these young adults do come here that they contribute to the posts and help make and keep this site what it is today. They will bring their own point of view and that's fine and welcomed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif |
Re: A preview of things to come?
Personally, and I know this is going to sound a bit harsh, but I think this community can survive a bunch of little kiddies better than it can survive an elitist attitude.

Honestly, this is Shrapnel Game's site and the mentality of the posts on IGN probably tell you that the mind set is not that of a real gamer. People who 'game' have an special mentality along with the skills to actually understand that they are part of a community of others like themselves. There is no one who can stop those kids from coming here to this site and posting. I have seen groups of kids at the local game shop and I would be happy to game with them if I was into D&D type games. All you can do is show them what the rest of us are like and hope that they learn to become a functioning and contributing part of this site OR move on to seek their own level. |

The lady has posted that she is in fact 25, not 12.

Re: A preview of things to come?
C'mon guys. Lets try to set a good example for these potential SE fans. Insulting the boards over there wasn't exactly a good first impression. Of course they dont compare to the ones here. It's IGN. 'Nuff said.
Lets just focus on showing them the kind of community we have here without sinking to the level of behavior so prevalent in internet society. If they aren't able to fit in here they will leave. So let's try to be friendly and welcoming so we dont scare off those who would be our fellow SE addicts! |
Re: A preview of things to come?
And a game reviewer? Good God, I can imagine the reviews...
"Space Empires V... the game itself is decent, but the fan community is a bunch of elitist stuck-up *******s..." Or maybe she'd even call US immature... please, guys, don't drag this community down to the lowest common denominator - remember, to them, we're a bunch of newbies, so please don't call them childish bastards or whatever! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif *points to Kevin Arisa's post* |

I say we invade that thread with cake, party ballons and those caramel applies on a stick!
