Rebellion Ship Set

I have gotten a few emails asking about the status of the Rebellion ship set. All though I am far from done you can take a look at the Work In Progress. Since it is a work in progress there are missing images. So yes, I know there are missing images.

Dreadnought Heavy, Destroyer, and Baseship.

I like. There is no dreadnought, but it is better without.

Re: Rebellion Ship Set

What do you mean no dreadnought? There is a dreadnought. A dauntless class to be specific.

Re: Rebellion Ship Set

Canīt see Dreadnought. Closest ship is Destroyer, but engine section is too large. If you mean Dauntless Cruiser, it isnīt dreadnought. This is dreadnought

Re: Rebellion Ship Set

The description provisded at the web site is kinda confusing. First it calsses it as a dreadnaught Frigate, then it calls it a dreadnaught, then a cruiser, then calls it smaller than a destroyer????

Re: Rebellion Ship Set

You have to remember that in Star Wars the size classes are very different from what we are familiar to. Destroyers can refer to Star Destroyers which are also called Star Cruisers. Basically, it is all one big confusing mess. It is best to go by visual size analysis. Or find a schematic and compare the actual size of the ships.

Re: Rebellion Ship Set

The cannon cannon stikes again.............. [censored]!

Man I shouldn't have to say this to any one here, We are not using the Star Wars scale because it is worthless in the Space Empires universe.

I am looking at the Rebellion chart, and yes the Destroyer is listed as a dreadnought, but that scale is not a size based scale. When they set up the game they used a very differant system to determine what a ships is. That system was and I quote "Just pick a name and thats cool." That said, there was NO REAL organization to the ships. They just threw together odd ball designs and randomly named them. THEY DID NOT organize them as we have to do in Space Empires.

Therefore according to this scale, what is a dreadnought in Star Wars, is now a Destroyer in Space Empires.

You tell 'em, Atrocities. Do it your own way!

No really, everything looks fine as it is. I have no complaints. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Here is what they call this ship and I want you to keep in mind that the word Dreadnought to them does not mean Deadnought to us. ]Dreadnaught Star Frigate Frigate being the operative word here. Dreadnought is just the name they used for the class - not the size of the ship. When dealing with Star Wars ships you MUST keep in mind that they randomly used names just to use them when making Rebellion. The star wars scale is worthless in a Space Empires universe.

And they list an Escort Carrier as the Dauntless Cruiser so I do not put too much faith in the accuracy of that site.

The Dauntless is the second largest cruiser in the Alliance Fleet. Built from the hull of a luxury liner, it carries and excellent sensor package and countermeasures equipment. Extra shielding and armaments were added to make the Dauntless an effective frontiline ships. Cruiser in this case is defined under SEIV terms as a Dreadnought.

Comparing the Dauntless to the Dreadnought Class Frigate. (Dreadnought here only being used to describe that this class of Frigate is the most powerful class of frigate)

Dauntless
Turbo lasers - 120 F - 60 Aft - 200 P - 200 S
Ion Cannon - 60 F - 60 A - 200 P - 200 S
Laser Cannon - 0 - 0 - 0 - 0

Alliance Dreadnought (Frigate)
Turbo lasers - 40 F - 40 A - 70 P - 70 S
Ion Cannon - None
Laser Cannon - None

For the purposes of Space Empires IV, this Dreadnought class Frigate is a Destroyer and Heavy Destroyer.

I like them. And that canon cannon seems extremly innacurate by any scale.

AT, just have fun making the set. If they don't like your set, they can make their own. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Rebellion Ship Set

Some other ships you might want to fit in there are the Nebulon B-2 and the Assault Frigate. The Corellian Gunship and Corvette would make good small classes. The good ol' rebel freighter makes a nice transport class. The T-wing and E-wing would also make more good alternate fighter classes. The E-wing might be better suited to a New Republic set, though.

Here are a couple image pages I found that might help.

Corellian Gunship
Assault Frigate
Rebel Freighter
E-Wing Fighter

Very nice ships! Excellent level of details on these ships, especially the heavy base ship, juggernought and fighters. Great work, as always. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Ok. I let it be. But where is Strident Star Defender, cause if I remember right, it should be largest ship in Alliance fleet. It is some time i played Warlords and i didnīt find any good screenshots, so I can be also wrong. But I like that shipset.

If you can help me to find an image of one, I will try my best to make one for you. Also I have looked at the Bulwarks Battle Cruiser and opted not to make it. It really is just an ugly looking beatle of a ship.

As for troops, I am really at a loss here. I am thinking on using one of my older Imperial designs for one, and tanks and such for others based upon past Lucas Arts games.

Transports and carriers are going to be a ***** as well. I know what I want for transports, ala Empire, but what size is it, and can I make variants of it for all three sizes?

As to the carriers, I am thinking about using the Alliance Escort Carrier and modified looking calamari cruisers.

Any ways it ought to be interesting as to what I come up with.

I have posted the mini images for the major ships of the set. I still need to finish up the troops and transports then the set is completed.

Re: Rebellion Ship Set

Well, the rebellion troops are pretty much what you saw on Endor's moon during RotJ (infantry) I'd give them Landspeeders for the other troops, landspeeders with mounted guns for light and medium and a treaded tank for the heavy. Transports... there's one flying off in ESB, the big one with an open bottom, forget the name at the moment. Corellian freighters seem to be all the rage too.

Re: Rebellion Ship Set

Thanks. I was thinking about using a snow speeder one of the troops. Perhaps small.
