Re: finally
heehee 0 posts in all of them. And they forgot StarFury which is the only one theyve "released".
|
Re: finally
The Captain Kwok PR machine has already been activated.
|
Re: finally
It's interesting to note that they copied the Shrapnel forums verbatim... even the poorly named "After Action Reports..."

Its also interesting to note that it is not visible on the main community page...

Re: finally
True, but they did give it the most prominent position after their general and customer support forums.

Re: finally
What I noticed was that each game had a different board. Not just style and layout, different software, some UBB, some phpBB. And the UBB ones were version 6.3, which seems abit old, especially as this place is no 6.4.3 (or so it says at the bottom of my screen http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
At a wild stabbing guess Strategy First might think it's someone else responsibilty to put up (and maintain) a board, hence why there was no board for so long. |
Re: finally
S1st tends to rely on the developers providing their own forums...
|
Re: finally
Hey, they have the 1.91 patch for SE4, for some reason...
|
Re: finally
Just on a topic. I really don't trust Strategy First... they're marketing Uplink: Hacker Elite... yet on the main uplink site (Hell, the game isn't even called Hacker Elite on their site) I see no mention of giving them rights or anything to Strat1st.
Another couple of things, their games are pretty... well... ****ty. There, I said it. I don't know, just don't trust 'em. Edit: According to some people on the Uplink boards, Strategy first really shafted them and wouldn't pay Introversion AND sold 'budget' versions in jewel cases without Introversion's permission. Edit Again: http://forums.introversion.co.uk/upl...strategy+first Edit Again Again: http://forums.introversion.co.uk/upl...c&start=15 Scroll down and look for Tom's post. Middle of the page. |
Re: finally
They have gotten around to adding Starfury forums.
|
Re: finally
I guess they got a bit jealous of Shrapnels Forum. LOL
|
Re: finally
Well I gave everything I am involved in a quick introduction on there.
I don't expect to be posting there anymore. I don't really like S1st. They don't let people use custom avatars and the forums seems low quality in general. Shrapnel will remain my home as usual. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: finally
I don't have any experience with Stategy First (yet) but I have with Shrapnel and their customer service and support have always been excellent. That MM has changed the publisher made me feel uncomfortable and I am sorry for Shrapnel.

Nowhere near up to par with my favourite games (SEIV, Freespace 2: Babylon Project) but it's kept me from staying bored while ill this week. I'm not really a major gamer though so I haven't heard any reservations or horror stories about Strategy First. Still, I think it will take a lot for Shrapnel to lose it's position as a "wretched hive of scum and villainy" (well, ok, maybe that's just the cantina http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif) in many of our hearts. |
Re: finally
Part of the automatic downside for a "shelfware and advertising" publisher over an "online and publicity" publisher, is the payments. There is much more money put out by the publisher for doing shelfware and advertising stuff which has to be paid back before and profits are seen. And the number of sold units is hard for an author to find out. So there always seems to be a problem with what appears to be a popular selling game not producing any checks to the creater 1, 2, even 3 years and then it only trickles in.
Malfador might gain new recognition from all this. I wont knock his decision, and I wish him well. But I do think he might consider cashing in on the new player base while shifting back to the more comfortable payback system by doing SEVI at Shrapnel. |
Re: finally
Im not sure if the forums are timing as much as they are shamed into it. Was I the only one that pestered them over and over till they put some forums in?
Of course they might also have been waiting for Aarons answer on whether or not he was going to do his own or declare a fan site as the official forums. Strat1st seems to prefer it that way. Gandalf Parker |
Re: finally
One thing I've noticed is that I've seen more of us over at the Strategy First forum then over here today - or at least by comparing # of posts.
On a good note, it's already starting to attract some new players to the game which is good news. I've also seen a small spike in visitors to my websites as well as SE.net! |
