Re: downloads

You must download the mod file (packaged as zip or rar), open it using a program (winzip, winrar or something), and unpack the contents into your mods folder. The folder is in Dominions II\mods after you have patched the game and run it once, or you can just add a new folder named mods if one doesn't exist already.

After that, you have to enable the mod by going to the Preferences - Mod Preferences, and choose the mod you want to enable. Any pretenders done after enabling the mod will be done with the mod enabled, and any games started will be using the mod. If the mod changes costs of pretenders, you should always create a new pretender before using the mod. You cannot change a game to use or not to use a mod after it has been started.

I only have the evaluation version and I dont want to have to pay for proper winzip

Re: downloads

Even the evaluation works, and both WinZip and WinRar have evaluation versions.

Re: downloads

right I save it into the mods file, then I open winzip then what do I do???

Re: downloads

If you've installed WinZip or WinRar, you should just right-click the file and choose the "Extract here" option. Alternatively, you open the file in the zip program, select all the files in it, then choose "extract" and tell it what folder to extract to.

Easy Edi, the guy's only 13. I'm pretty sure I couldn't operate WinZip when I was 13.

Hey Naresh - we have the same birthday! Pity I'm 22 years older than you, that makes me feel ancient.

There is nothing wrong in asking if one doesn't know. It becomes stupid only if you won't learn from it, and have to keep asking and asking and asking... When I first met a rar file, I didn't realize it was packaged.

Re: downloads

Naresh, I want to apologize for the comments that met a much deserved end at Truper's hands. All I can say is that I had not had one of my best days and was more than a litle snappish, but that is no excuse or justification. I was wrong, and I hope you can forgive me. I'll also understand if you can't or won't. I'm not feeling too good about myself right now for having said those things.

If you still have a problem with getting the files unzipped into the right place or figuring out how the packing programs work (they are all almost exact clones of each others where functionality and interface are concerned, WinZip, WinRar, Powerarchiver and otehrs, no real difference except the name and icons), ask one of your friends or maybe your parents (if they know how) to show you how to do it. If you didn't manage with the instructions in my previous post, I doubt adding much more will help, you need to see it done in practice.

Hope you've had a better day today. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Getting grounded isn't fun, but I'm really glad you didn't lose that pet. It sucks worm-infested donkey balls, and HARD, to lose a pet.
