Titles and Phrases for Dominions_3

Wondering about Dominions_3 I figured I'd create a topic where everyone could place their ideas for titles and/or phrases. Kristoffer and the other devs might then read thru them and pick the best one. If Dominions_3 is still on schedule for end of December then everyone has about 3 months to place their suggestions.

Here are my suggestions:

TITLE:
Dominions_3: Worship Revolutions

ADVERTISING PHRASE:
Are you God enough ?

Have you seen the old T-shirt contest results? Those are great.

http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...t=all&vc=1

Some I still find amusing:

Tricon's nr 6:
Time will not be the only thing you sacrifice.
(first winner)

Zen's (shows as anonymous):
15. "And God made Man in his own Image"
Lost an Eye
Lost Other Eye
Lost an Arm
Mute
Feeblemind
Limp
Chest Wound
Lost Other Arm
Never Healing Wound
Weakened
Crippled

Some men are uglier than others.

In Small Print at the bottom
Paid for by the Church of Bob

Wauthan:
10. Dominions 2 - What the seventh day was all about.

Nagot gick fel:
1) God does not play dice, He plays Dominions.
(second winner)

PrinzMegaherz
Dominions 2 - Where do you want to rule today?
(third winner)

I somehow missed this first time round, but the two that really made me laugh seemed to be totally passed over by everyone else:

1. Warning: Precision 5 fire mage

2. Victory was at hand ... and then my archers fired.

Any other creative advertising ideas or unique titles for DOM_3?

Dominions 3: Ages of Faith — My understanding is that Dom3 will replace national themes with eras for all players in a game. "Ages of Faith" is a play on "the Age of Faith," a common label for the Middle Ages.

That's a seriously good one.

From a chat on #SpaceEmpires yesterday regarding subtitles for SE games:

[15:37] DavidGervais: "SE6: Return of the Avatar" hmmm.

I don't see why you couldn't use that one for Dom3... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hmm. As i recall aristotle said something to the effect of "the gods too are fond of a joke"
Seems like a good endorsement, as long as the prospective audience was reasopnably intelligant.

or you could use Homer: "All men have need of the gods."
so too have we need of dominions.

And one last thing-
I am 14 yrs old. I am Canadian.
I have encountered people from India, England, Germany, Sweden, Iceland, South Africa, Australia, the United States, Mexico. Playing Dominions. People that are 12 years old, people that are 60 years old. People that do not speak English, and often cannot grasp the word umbrella. They are united by this game. They universally recognize "Nagot gick fel". This is something to transcend the boundaries of time and space, as only a God might do.

Praise be to Illwinter.
(and feel free to send a free copy of Dom3 to this person. Thanks.)

Re: Titles and Phrases for Dominions_3

Let's see:

Dominions 3: The Mandate of Heaven - Taken from the Chinese concept, obviously. It's appropriate, since, unlike Divine Right, it can legitimise revolution, struggle and war. An Asian concept is also nice, since Dom 3 will have more nations inspired by Asian cultures.

Dominions 3: Sorcery and Steel - If national units are more useful versus magic, then this title might be suitable. Sorcery technically refers to only half of the Dominions magic schools, but it just sounds cool. 'Steel' could refer to the elemental magics as well, I suppose.

Re: Titles and Phrases for Dominions_3

Deus/Dei in machino
-god/s in a machine

While grammatically more correct, less known, and would be confusing and perhaps not as easily recognized for what it represents.

Deus/Dei ex machina
-god/s from a machine

Of these, Deus ex machina is very well known, perhaps too much so. Because of that, I offer to you:

Dominions III: Dei ex Machina

Dominions III: Even holier than Two
Dominions III: True God-moding
Dominions III: The Game of Artemis
Dominions III: Numero deii impare gaudet.

Re: Titles and Phrases for Dominions_3

Dominions III: Blood and Candles
(Sounds occult, and those are crucial elements of dominion spread. This title would attract goth gamers)

Dominions 3 Arena
(people love buying games with the "Arena" suffix, and there IS an arena...:)

Dominions 3: And Then There Were None
(A nod to Agatha Christie, in reference to the constantly falling population http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Alternately, "And Then There Was One" would refer to pretenders)

Dominions III: The Divine Invasion
(A nod to Philip K Dick. Could refer to pretenders invading the indy lands, or the game could include a new concept, like the Antarans in MOO2. The God who created the world left millenia ago, for reasons unknown. Returning to examine his creation, he is angered to see his children playing at God, and invades with hosts of angels and the souls of the dead to clear the world of false idols. This would occur randomly, in the late game.)

Dominions III: Angels and Demons
(Grab a license from Dan Brown, and watch your sales increase by a factor of 1000...)

Dominions III: Return of the Yeti
(Make a new race of Yeti. With lightsabers.)

The little banes and wights with their bane blades already look like Darth Vaders with green lightsabers, so DomII is actually already halfway there... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

That is good. The actual name may be close to this one.

Dominions 3: Guided by Visions
Optional story elements that play for each race similar to SMAC (alpha centuari) They could be explained by "prohpetic visions", or something.

Dominions 3: Between Flesh and Divine
This is ofcourse describing the Illwinter team, the demi-gods that they are, for making such a grand series. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

A few which disenchanted MOO fans might understand:

Dominions III: Absolutely NO Harvesters Included
Dominions III: My God, They Left the Races Intact!
Dominions III: The TRUE Power of the Ancients

And a few other assorted titles:
Dominions III: My God, It's Full of... Gods???
Dominions III: More Warring Religions than Civ4!
Dominions III: Satan's Game (Your children, like it or not, are attracted in their weaker years to the OCCULT, and a game like Dominions III will only draw them into the depths of EL DIABLO. Come as we observe an actual gaming session... "Gulstaff casts Magic Missile. Gulstaff casts Magic Missile. Gulstaff casts Magic Missile. The forces of Darkness are routed!" There you have it, the inner sanctum of DOMINIONS III! But it isn't your fault your children are playing Dominions III... it's their art teacher's fault, for showing them pictures of naked ladies and calling them "impressionistic", when the only thing impressionistic is those poor little kids' minds......" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif)

Re: Titles and Phrases for Dominions_3

I am ill at the moment and could barely sleep tonight, so this gave me time to think about thinks I usually do not have time to think about, including a title for Dominions 3

Dominions III: Beyond the 7th day
Dominions III: The day after creation

According to the bible, god needed 7 days to create the world (you know how cumbersome those menues can be sometimes). What it did not mention is that afterwards, God had it's battle royal with all those other pretenders out there, as described in this game.

Dominions III: The Fall of Ermor

Most story elements of Dom 2 focused on Ermor and it's fall. Many of the other nations are splinter groups of Ermor (Ulm, Pythium etc.), so it would just be fair to give Ermor a little love and mention it in the title.

Dominions III: Faith and Blood
Dominions III: Faith and Steel
Dominions III: Faith and bla...
Dominions III: A clash of gods
Dominions III: Light and Darkness
Dominions III: A tale of greatness

No deeper meaning, just your average fantasy flair

Dominions III: Rightfully yours
Dominions III: Your soul is mine (actually, that's an old one)
Dominions III: The destiny you were born for

Those titles should give the customer the feeling, that the game is wanting HIM to buy it.

Dominions III: Up yours!

I like that one http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Re: Titles and Phrases for Dominions_3

Dominions III: Divine Inspiration
Dominions III: Now with 15% more divinity.
Dominions III: Extreme Theology
Dominions III: May your kingdom come.
Dominions III: Fiat voluntas
Dominions III: One more I than Dominions II
Dominions III: Mead, manna and mayhem.
Dominions III: Ultima Ratio
Dominions III: Ermor Strikes Back
Dominions III: Like a Thief in the Night
