Renegade: Moving!
I'm moving today into the nearby city of Prince George (Hi Bearclaw http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ) to go to university. Since I'm not sure how soon I'll be able to get internet access, I may be out of commission for a few days. I should be able to get access later today, but I'm not sure. So those of you in PBW games with me, please have patience if I'm a little later than usual with my turns.

Re: Renegade: Moving!
Welcome to PG! Hey, if you need internet access, feel free to give me a call. I've got 3 computers and a wireless network setup in my house. You are more than welcome to borrow.

Re: Renegade: Moving!
Hope you have help. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Good luck and don't forget to feed the movers. |
Re: Renegade: Moving!
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif Thanks a lot for the offer Bearclaw, but fortunately the university has supplied me with internet in the residence (where I'm staying...for a while at least) The rooms are tiny. But the internet access is good. So I'm happy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
Narf, yep I had help, in the form of my parents and sister http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif It only took several hours (and a lot of waiting in lines at the university http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif ), but we got it done. And yes, I fed them - and myself - too. They appreciated it. Oh yeah, I'm obviously up and running now. So hopefully won't be too late on PBW games. On another note, I hope all days aren't like this day, or I think I will explode from stress and frustration http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif |

Re: Renegade: Moving!
Ok, some survival tips for college.....
1. NEVER set your beer down 2. If you forget rule one, GET A NEW BEER 3. If you forget rule one and two, LOOK BEFORE YOU DRINK 4. NO means yes, except when it means NO. 5. The really nice guys who seem very very friendly to you, are not the kind of guys who prefer women. 6. Some women you should stay away from. You'll know them after they start sending you body parts of your current girl friend. 7. When going bar hopping, look for the ugly girl in the crowed, when she starts looking good.... STOP DRINKING 8. If you for happen to ignor the wisdom of # 7, and wake up in the morning and realize what who you spent the night with, don't scream.... just GET THE HELL OUT of their... quietly as to not wake the beasty women or dude mentioned in # 5. 9. If # 8 occures...... DENY EVERYTHING! 10. Cars, booze, and behemoth women do not mix well. Avoid cobining them. Good luck and enjoy. |
Re: Renegade: Moving!
Oooo, when I find you Alneyan and RD, I'm gonna beat you! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif (j/k of course)
Unfortunately, no money for beer...and I can't afford the hit to my grades http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif AT, good advice (and humor! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ) Thanks, I needed that! Now off to orientation... |
Re: Renegade: Moving!
Seems like a lot of those tips could be avoided if you don't drink beer or booze.

The best advise to any one is to make as many GOOD friends as you can while away at college. The kind of friendships that last a life time. You never know when one of them can help you get a great job, introduce you to the right people, or be their when you need them. Going to college is the first step in building a career so don't muck it up by hiding away in your dorm room. Just know your limits, keep your focus on learning, but enjoy yourself. |
Re: Renegade: Moving!
If you don't drink alcohol, it's best to find friends who won't shove drinks in your face.
|
Re: Renegade: Moving!
Its ok to have friends who drink but know limits. Those who live to drink have no limits and often are not good friends.

During move-in, things are always pretty bad, because there is just so much happening. For dorms, you can have approximately 500 students moving in to a completely new place, and they'll usually have a "crew" of parents, siblings, relatives, and friends, so there can easily be thousands of people that have no idea what they're doing. And usually only a few people available to help with all the issues that will inevitably come up. Basically, it's a large train wreck. After that, you're all settled in, and the new environment isn't the source of the stress and frustration. That moves to your assignments, and University red tape. And sometimes, from the people around you being complete ***********, but that isn't guaranteed like the former are. But, make good friends, get to know professors, and try to balance your workload, and you'll be fine. |
Re: Renegade: Moving!
Well getting to know my prof's and classmates won't be too hard, since I'm going to a relatively small university (the University of Northern British Columbia - UNBC).
The largest problem about socializing at university that I've found so far is that the socializing is usually focussed around drinking. At least, it has been so far. That sucks the big one, because that's part of the reason why I'm waking up with a hangover. Good thing it's still orientation! Now I only need to spend another $800 on books, and I'll be set http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif |
Re: Renegade: Moving!
Just wondering, but what is small for you? I know I would call my university small, with 16,000 students downtown, and about as many in other buildings (most of the university isn't on a campus).
Socialising is even less developed here, since we don't really have that drinking part (smoking doesn't compare). It would just be much easier to make friends with the teachers than the students... but perhaps it's simply because students drop like flies. |
Re: Renegade: Moving!
Have fun at the university! Hopefully, you'll make some new friends who don't drink too much and have fun doing other things. I went to Simon Fraser University (SFU) and there was some drinking going on there too but I didn't hang out with those kind of people. I don't drink so they thought I wasn't cool. That was OK because there were plenty of other people who didn't drink. The thing I had trouble with was spending too much time playing addictive video games. We had 24-hour access to the computer lab so sometimes we stayed up all night playing games! Ah, the good old days. Good luck! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Renegade: Moving!
Thanks Kamog! Oh, and small in this case means roughly 3500 students. So only about 20% the size of yours Alneyan http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif But this makes sense, due to the geographical location of the university. Where I live is sparsely populated, and this is the only university within about 1000 km. It services a large area, but an area with little in the way of population.
