I am going to pass on Invis Swarm IV because I have my last semester starting next week and already in Faerun game and a team game.

So as far as mods, are we doing conceptual balance 3.0 and nothing else?

jeffr September 1st, 2005 08:47 PM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

Conceptual Balance 3.0 would get my vote. It seems that a lot of thought has gone into it.

Conceptual balance 3.0 is fine with me. I am not familiar with all of its changes, but I am game.

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

Wow - - - this is filling up fast.

The last Swarm only had 10 players, and we are going to have at least 12 it seems.

I think we might want to put a cap of 12 players on the game so that it does not get TOO big.

Any map suggestions?

Shmonk September 2nd, 2005 01:54 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I say cap at 12, with the first seats going to the original group, of course.

And my map suggestion is inland or orania (with orania we could do 1 more player maybe).

Ygorl September 2nd, 2005 02:11 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I'm pretty sure Jurri would be interested, but I think he might be offline just now. That's all I know, and none of that is even knowing, though...

Jurri September 2nd, 2005 05:14 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

Well, you know, at least you're knowing you're not knowing.

I would prefer a smaller game, myself. Like 7-10 players depending on the map. In fact, there's already ~20 names in the first post (hey, you missed arch!), so there would probably be enough interested players for two such medium sized games. I suggest seeing how many interested players there are Sunday night: if 14+, split the bunch in about half depending on map choices (Parganos seems the right size: is it good? Inland is great, anyway), otherwise go with the number there are. This way everyone gets into a game and it won't probably be too large for my palate, either http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I wonder what's up with Chris... He's a great, reliable host (not to mention a highly entertaining opponent) and I'd highly prefer him hosting this. Hopefully he hasn't lost interest!

YellowCactus September 2nd, 2005 08:22 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

Chris will be back into it. He's playing turns in another game. Besides....he does own the Inv. Swarm trademark. In real life....chris is a mad scientist super villian known by few as the....Invisible Swarm for his un-natural ability to clone himself whenever he gets wet. Also, never...ever....feed the Cunknown after midnight.

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I'm in as Ermor and i second Jurris call for a small game.
I am still in Faerun. One Faerunsize game is definitely enough.

As maps i suggest:
-Parganos, seems right size and i never played it so far.
-Ringworld, the last Slugfest was played on it and i enjoyed the map http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif
-Loemendor, don't know exact number of provinces but seems to be in the 100-150 range too, is new and looks nice

I like the idea of two smaller games, myself.

I'd be interested in trying out Loemendor as a map.

Shmonk September 2nd, 2005 11:40 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I like that idea 2. And Parganos and Loemendor would be fun maps to use. Would both games use the balance mods? Hope so. I bet we have enough to get 2 games going of 7-8 people each, easily.

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

You know, I always wondered about the name. That makes sense... Especially so if you can't see the clones.

New maps are always nice. Has anyone quality checked Loemendor for neighbors and terrain types? I seem to recall that quite a few maps have had necessary revisions made after publication.

I guess now that we have the map size and the estimated number of players down, we might start on settings. Any preferences? The conceptual balance mod seems popular, so probably use that... When did QM say he was going to release the next version? There were some good fixes planned to Gryphons and stuff, unless I'm mistaken, so it would be nice to get the new version, if possible.

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

the loemandar map looks like it might work - its worth trying http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif - its karan size, and it looks like there is enough interest to populate two games.

there are two versions, one w/ preplaced defenders. They're crazy tough, which is kind of cool. I'm happy either way.

This seems awfully popular - but if there's a spot (or even a 3rd game- easy for me to suggest, not being the host), I'd love to play.

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

Hi all!

Am I hosting this game? What's going on?

I will be glad to host a game sometime in the next week or two. I'm on vacation for Labor Day weekend, so I don't have internet access (except at the public library). I'm not sure which mods to use, I was actually tossing around the idea of making one (or just modifying one) myself.

I need to check things out when I get back. So, if you're going to split this up into two or more games, I guess someone can volunteer to start the first one, then when I get back I can host the 2nd one.

-Chris

p.s. The name Invisible Swarm has a long and complex history which I don't have time to go into now! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Of course that is fixed in the next version, it is the no. 1 biggest bug in the current version.

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

or we could just have one big game, say Orania, but w/ a victory condition so its not quite so crazy big in the endgame.

PashaDawg September 3rd, 2005 10:13 PM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I have wanted to play on Orania for a long time, so I would be game for that. Otherwise, a game of about 8 players on Loemendor.

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

Ok... I started another thread for a smaller game, and I assume that Swarm IV will wait until CUnknown returns! <putting baton down on the Maestro's stand>

CUnknown September 6th, 2005 01:54 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

Hi, I'm back.

I looked over the changes made in the New Complete Balance Mod, and I like it a lot, for the most part. I'm still not a huge fan of the item changes, but it does seem a lot better than the items in vanilla overall.

So, I think we'll just use that one mod, The Complete Balance Mod v4.0.

As far as map and everything, I'm thinking maybe Orania? So we can play with everyone who wants in. I guess I'm typically more of a small map kind of guy, but with the changes to hoard items, playing on a large map doesn't sound so bad.

So, here goes:

Mods: Complete Balance 4.0
Map: Orania
Research: Difficult
Independents: strength 5
Site Frequency: 45
Richness: normal
HoF: 15
Scoregraphs off

Victory Conditions: Orania starts with 15 victory points already on the map. I think I'm going to add the condition that every capital is worth a victory point, then require that the winner take 21 of the 30 points on the map (if we have 15 players, say). If we had 12 players, the victory condition would be 18 of the 27 points on the map, I suppose.

Basically, I want Victory Points to be something people are thinking about, but not something that decides the game prematurely. If you get 11 of 15 map victory points, then also 10 of 15 capitals, I think you deserve to win.

Any comments, suggestions, complaints?

I still don't know which faction I'm going to take. Pasha can have Ulm, I'm sick of losing with them! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Oh, host schedule. I like 24-hour quickhost for at least the first 30 turns. Later on, or at request, we can make it slower.

Boron September 6th, 2005 07:58 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

If we stick with Orania i drop out. If we take a smaller map (maximum would be Cradle) i claim Atlantis http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

Jurri September 6th, 2005 08:21 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I would also insist on a smaller map; Pasha's hosting another game, so there should be enough places to go around even if this is limited to 7-10 or so. Thus, I'd rather we use Parganos or Loemendor or some such. I like your thinking on the victory points, though!

PashaDawg September 6th, 2005 08:43 AM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I am going to listen to the little voice in my head urging moderation and drop out of this game. Good luck with the game. I will be watching from the peanut gallery to see if Jurri gets squished.

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I'm in as Pangaea again. I guess I'm a glutton for pain http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif I'd also prefer a smaller map, but will go with what everyone decides.

Jurri September 7th, 2005 12:20 PM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

I think I'll go with Ulm, then, since neither Pasha nor CU want it. I wonder where comes this newfound popularity for 'em. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Hello:

I see that only I can edit the first post. So, I tried to remove the chaff. Some old Swarm players never expressed interest, and I removed myself and Dragonfire11 (who told me by email that he would drop out).

I can certainly update the first post if y'all want me to. Or, you could start a special new thread so that you would have complete power.

Pasha

Cainehill September 7th, 2005 02:20 PM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

So, is the map going to be Orania with the VPs then? And a projected start date?

CUnknown September 7th, 2005 06:02 PM

Re: Invisible Swarm IV

Um..no, the map will be one of those other ones, but also with victory points, because it sounds cool.

Projected start date is a few days after whenever I get motivated to get the server up? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I think I will start a new thread like Pasha suggests, just so I can edit the title.

So, the players so far are:

me as Ctis or Vanheim I guess? Maybe Man?
Jurri as Ulm (damn those 8 gold infantry look sweet, don't they?).
Boron as Ermor.
Whollaborg as Marignon.
Yellow Cactus as whoever (I'll go ahead and reserve Mictlan for him).
Jeffr - Claimed PAN .
The Panther - claimed JOTUNHEIM .
Arkas - claimed ABYSIA .
Yorgl - Claimed ARCO .
Turin - no nation claimed
Rev. Zombie - no nation claimed
Cainehill - every nation claimed pretty much...
Ed Kolis - Ctis

So, that's 14 players. That's too many. Does anyone want to use this opportunity to back out, or should I pick people at random? Or maybe we can just have a super-slugfest, BWHAHA!!!

Ed Kolis September 7th, 2005 06:07 PM
