OK so from a variety of threads I've picked up a vibe that this is somewhat of a sober board, with a high proportion of non drinkers.

Let us prove or disprove this assertion using a poll!

As an unemployed molecular biologist/chemist, I've recently gotten caught up in making my own wine. Its fun, and its kind of like chemistry, I have titrators to measure the sulfite levels I've added, so I don't make people sick. And there are acid levels to monitor and finings to add. Then there's a lengthy aging process. So I can't become a lush, I'm always saving some wine to see if it will get better with time.

"Off-line"? It's when your ship sustains damage from an attack and important systems like your engines or weapons go "off-line", meaning non-functioning.

Hmm close. It must just be the non-drinkers make more of a fuss than the drinkers. Still a hefty amount of people practicing temperance.

My brother makes wine. Only one 55 gallon barrel was not enough. He had two going so one could be drunk from while the other was cooking. Then he finally got enough empty JD bottles to hold all from one barrel and he could have them both cooking at once. he was about the only one that drank it though.

Some guys I knew made their own beer, planning to sell it and make money. They ended up drinking it all themselves.

Not sure if other states have similar laws, but in Hawaii, you can make all the beer you want and give away as much as you want too. But to sell any of it requires a liquor license. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I got a coupla friends who do the home-brew thing. One guy's is pretty good. The other one requires me to be polite, smile and say it's good.
