going to a closed of system
I am winning now, but there is a system that is closed off, and it is protected from me opening a warp point.
Is there anything I can do!? Thanks |
Re: going to a closed of system
If you still have contact with the turtling empire, you could try hitting them with intel projects to destroy random facilities.
Eventually, you should manage to blow up their shield facility. Alternatively, wipe out everything else in the galaxy and unilaterally declare victory over this sniveling coward. |

Do gravitational facilities prevent disasters?

Re: going to a closed of system
I dont know about anyone else, and I dont know if this is in se 5, but I would personally like a way to get to any system any time, I think that this was about the one and only feature I thought was good from moo3 (well the 1 hour I played before never playing again, so I hope I am correct here)
as in the "tutorial" of starfury and I think it also said so on SE4, and just general knowledge, all systems are just places in space, warp points make it much quicker to travel between them, but if you tell your ship to go there, depending on the engines, it will still go there, just take, say 10 times as long or something similar, imagine going to a far off place, going in a warp point as close as possible, then going in to "deep space", I just think it will add more to the game. anyway, it is just ashame to end the game without winning because I can not go to that system http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif |
Re: going to a closed of system
In order to get that ability you will need to research it. The ability to warp to any system is already in the game.

Re: going to a closed of system
No, Atrocities, I think he's talking about sending ships through space without warp points, like you could in MOO3... not creating warp points, as he says there's a grav shield in the system...

Re: going to a closed of system
If this player is human, he is confined to that system only and is refusing to break his turtle mode he is not only a sniveling bastard, but also a cowardly A-hole. The game administrator on that game should give him a warning, and if he does not comply kick him and replace him with an AI.
Especially if turtling is forbidden in that game, the player in question should be publicly declared to be a turtler. If, on the other hand, it is an AI doing the turtling, well then, I must admit that AI has had a heck of a lot of luck..... Oh come on! You don't seriously believe SEIV AIs are at all capable of such deep thought to enter turtle mode do you?!? |
Re: going to a closed of system
well the ba*tard has! he is AI on star trek mod!
they basically build a system gravatational shield in every system they control, and without thought for neatness or convenience, just seem to randomly open and close warp holes... well until they build the shield then you just see ships running around with warp opening/closing abilities! |

Do gravitational facilities prevent disasters? No, they don't. The natural event still strikes with the protecting facility in place. |
Re: going to a closed of system
Then the solution is simple; build a lot of intel centers and hit him with facility destroying intel programs until his shield facility is gone, then open a warp point and send in around three hundred ships to show him that turtling is a bad thing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: going to a closed of system
Only if you still have contact with him. If you've lost contact with that empire you're buggered good and proper.

Re: going to a closed of system
I would think the AI would consider himself "not connected" and be trying to take action to re-connect a warp point with the rest of the quadrant. But since the system gravitational shield prevents this, I wonder if this could be considered an AI bug?

Re: going to a closed of system
well, its the first of many AI bugs, ive had this a few times before! there is a few ai teams left, but he is alone in that system apart from 1 sat in another system, so I am not going to destroy that sat!
I have never really understood intel, I think it is the only area that is really lacking in the game (sure ai may not be best, but it works!) I usually just play with intel off, but this is the first time I have had it on, so I will try bombing the hell out of him! |
Re: going to a closed of system
If he has lots of CI, it can be easier to use "larger" projects to wear down his CI. larger = worth more points. Once you break thru, load up on the one(s) you want to attack with. Another good one is "Crew Insurrection" which steals a ship (with a ship in his system, you can start destroying planets.

Re: going to a closed of system
is it only one system? are there no empty systems connected to him that you could warp into?
if someone turtles off their empire (or reduces it to a couple of well defended warp points) you can often still get in through nebulae, black hole, or asteroid systems that are inside the turtle zone. personally, i think long range warp openers screw up the tatics of the game. a good strategic game should have well defined front lines and rear areas and, although raiding should be possible, it should not be easy or decisive. |
