Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
Just doing a quick check to see if any one is still playing the Star Trek Mod.
If you are any thoughts or comments about it would be helpful. As Deluxe release nears I would like to address any and all problems that I can before releasing what I hope to be the last patch for the mod. Its about time that I start thinking about mods for SEV and I would really love to put the STM to bed for SEIV. So any comments are welcome. |
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
I have the STM mod, but I'm wrapping up my first ever game with the AI first before I start the STM mod. I expect to be done with my first SEIV game by the end of this month, but by that time Deluxe may already be out, in which case I will still try STM assuming no compatibility issues, but most likely I will be gladly testing STM as a beta tester if you need to make changes for Deluxe http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
I doubt there will be any compatibility issues. In worst case it might be extra options and things that modders have been asking for along with some minor fixes. But the general feeling about deluxe is that nothing will change except that SEIV will be available in more languages.

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
awesome. well, in any event, i'll be playing STM for the first time sometime in the next two weeks. I'll let you know if I find any issues.

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
My friends an I are going to set up a STM game in the next month or so. Our current game is almost done. At that time I will seek a single download file that I can direct everyone too. Should be about 10 players.

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
I was going to mention Qconflict, but seeing as Atrocities is the Romulans I assumed he knew of it.

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
STM is imho the best thing about SEIV, I rarely play any other mod nowadays, so yes i'm still playing STM http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
Just start playing it again a couple of days ago...........
I think it's the best mod around (Proportions 2nd....) Inti, |
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
I don't know what Deluxe will bring but I do hope some added modding features along with some long time over due bug fixes for SEIV.
The next version is can be beta tested if any one is interested. You will have to have v1.9.2.4 installed though. Look to the Official STM forum over at SE.net to get the beta of 1.9.2.6. (Read the instructions even though they are vage) |
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
you may know from my other topic about how I am trying a load of diffrent modss recently.
I honestly have to say that the star trek mod is still my all time favourite mod! |
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
Just a thought but wasnt a patch a long time ago supposed to be the FINAL patch to this great mod.

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
My husband and I are playing a STM game at the present. We really enjoy the MOD. I don't plan on ousting it off the old puter' - EVER!!!! I have only played two of the various races so far. It is very exciting learning what each race has that is unique to it's particular culture. I just thought of this - maybe, if possible, it would be cool to have a text document includeed that descibes the races, a brief history, etc, so those of us that don't have every Star trek episode ever made memorized can role play if we choose to.
On STM mod issues. There seems to be a little quark when I update a Shuttle design, It sometimes converts the armor to the armor that is used by troops. This doesn't always happen and it doesn't seem to have a pattern - you know something leading up to this situation occuring. (I am using all the latest patches). Shucks, or is it the other way around .... it may be that the troop armor turns into regular armor when updated. GOSH! My faulty memory!!!! Since there is no pattern to this behavior, I can't check it out to see. Hope you can figure it out. It isn't a big deal though. It usually comes up with the warning that you can only have one componet of this type and you just have to remove it and add the right component. And .... maybe this is not a problem but the way the AI has been programed for the race UFP. They are not friendly at all and are always attacking me. I have been the Tholians and the Andorians. Is this a built in response to the races I have chosen? I think that's it for my issues. I only say something because you ask and want to make the game better. I think it is wonderfully done. You sure put a lot of work into it. Again, thank you and all those that contributed to it's creation. Fuzzie PS: On a side note - for all those that have created MOD's and ship sets for SEIV - thank you so much from all of us untalented and lazy folks! :} You have truly made our gaming experience exceptionally enjoyable. I don't think I'll ever get bored. |
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
Hello,
Thanks for the bug reports. The Armor issue is one that is a bug with SEIV itself.. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif If I had it to do all over again the shuttle system would be completely revamped. What happened was that there was not going to be any fighters in the game, only shuttles. But people wanted to have fighters so they had to be put back in. This is when the armor bug appeared. The game sometime, mainly with AI, will ignor restrictions and often do what it pleases when it damn well pleases to do it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif The friendly AI... that is a long standing bug with SEIV in general. The political system of the game is, well its non exsitant. I believe I have them set to the friendly setting, but being a human player the other AI will always turn on you. I would love to see Aaron fix the political system of the game over most other bugs but I doubt that will ever happen. Any ways I am glad that you like the mod, we aim to please. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (Me, Myself, and I) |
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
by the way, to add to what I said before, as you gave the nice response "we aim to please"!
to tell you the truth, SEIV on its own is a really, really good game, I love it, but frankly, there are a few better games, and what I like is on shows like BSG, or especially shown on st:DS9, the epic space fights with hundreds of ships! the default game can only have 200 ships max per team, and resources are horrible with the planets being small, I think the game is great, but this just limits it slightly, the star trek mod, I just think this adds so much to it, and with the STM, I think that it is one of the best games out there. the only thing I would of liked to see to make it any better would have to be higher tech levels and multi tech requirements, I have to say, from the proportions mod, this is one thing I really like, for example you can raise tech in one area, then going any further requires another one... It just really adds some extra fun, but to tell you the truth, adding it now would probably be wrong after being so used to how it is. anyway, all I can really say is keep it up, and I cant wait to see what you do for SEV, I cant wait to play star trek mod on that http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
sorry, I didnt mean to sound stupid there, I know you can change it, but with planets storing less facilitys, you have to have fewer facilitys to get resources, and basically it is a slower game... usually, I was just trying to say how much I like STM due to the fact that everything works so well together!.... ahh, I wont go on much more! I just like it!

Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
Thanks for explaining these things to me.

It is a very difficult thing to make an AI that can mimic human behavior on a rather simple scale - without all kinds of programming, computers, and advanced technology. The games AI is okay considering the platform it is performing on. There are so many "flexible" elements in SEIV, I am amazed at what the AI can do (this is coming from a person that does not play many games and does not know much about programming, so my comments may be uninformed ones). SEIV is not like chess where the AI has a finite number of moves it can make. I would hate to see the actual number that represents the value of possibilities for every possible move and descision that needs to be made while playing SEIV. I know it would be an outstanding number. I bet it is very very hard to come up with an AI to do this any justice. Maybe someday it will be possible to do on a game that would still be affordable and played on a computer that the average person can obtain. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif |
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?

The problem with multi-tech requirements is that they don't really work all that well in SEIV. There is no way to know that something is a multi-tech required technology until it appears....having researched the technology. This would be better if we had a tech tree that actually looked like a tech tree such as the one in Gal Civ but we do not. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif In the next version of the STM planets will have a higher popluation limit, more space for storage, and facilities. Thanks for the comments guys. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Now small armor is used by both Fighters and troops. I think he is saying that the body armor used by infantry sometimes shows up on fighters. If that is the case then it is a bug with SEIV. |
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
The body armor and small armor do share the same family number but do not share the same vehicle type for which they can be placed upon. I will change the family number for body armor to be on the safe side. The fact that it can sometimes appear on fighters (shuttles) is an SEIV bug.
|
Re: Is Any One Still Playing The STM?
It is a bug, but it is easily worked around by verifying all involved family numbers and ensuring that their is a legal option for that ability call for all available vehicle types.
