A Few Questions

1.) Is the demo coming out before the full game release?

2.) Can the game be run in a window as well as full screen?

3.) Can the sound/music be turned off?

Thanks in advance!

Re: A Few Questions

1) Maybe. The developers are still working on it.

2) I have only run it in full, I would need to check.

3) Yes you can turn both off.

Re: A Few Questions

2) yes, you can;
the game shows you all video modes supported by your graphics card/driver, as soon as you select a mode with equal or less resolution than your desktop setting it lets you switch to windowed mode.

Re: A Few Questions

Windowed mode works really well, BTW. It is my preferred style with this particular game. You see, sometimes one is supposed to be doing work-things but there's this game . . . and, err . . . that means you need to step in and out of it quickly. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: A Few Questions

Thanks for the answers everyone. Being able to run in a window and with sound off helps with the, err, work issue. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I have another question now, is there an advantage to pre-ordering the game versus just waiting until later?

Re: A Few Questions

It's cheaper when you pre-order I think, it assures that you get you copy right away.

Anyone care to verify that the price is cheaper by pre-ordering?

Is it possible to turn off the end game date/penalty and just play until you've explored everything? One thing I found a little weid in SAIS is that you could die and get a better score than if you survived but made it back to your home planet late.

Re: A Few Questions

The late return penalty can't be "turned off", but it's easy to make a mod with a much longer time limit if you really want to.

This information might not be correct (although I'm not in a position to say for sure either way).

There certainly was a $5 discount for early orders, back when the projected gold date was September 15th, but I recall that the cut-off date for the discount was August 15th. Even if the cut-off date was extended by the same extra month that the game took to complete, it would still have ended a fortnight ago.

So at this stage, I suspect the advantage to pre-ordering is getting the game shipped out to you just as quickly as possible!

This is not an issue in WW:RtIS.
If everything goes normally, you'll have enough time to visit every star systems. With some gadgets, you'll even beback some years early http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: A Few Questions

Well it wasn't an issue in SAIS, really. The penalty for late return was purposefully high in order to force you to heed it, which then meant that you *had* to make decisions based on how long it would take you to do things, which was a really key aspect of the gameplay.

If you could take as long as you wanted to play each game, you would not have played it in the same way.

Shadowcat: Are you the same Shadowcat I know over at TTLG? Welcome aboard. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yes indeed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (and thanks)

Hopefully we'll see you over at ISF shortly!

I'm itching to get my hands on Weird Worlds... I hope the shipping is quick! It's never fun to have to see everyone else talking about it and still be waiting...

I might have come to ISF, but the mysterious music reminded me of Shalebridge... and I ran away. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: A Few Questions

Heh. Well I can't comment on that, I'm afraid. My PC is well up to running Weird Worlds, but pretty much chokes on Thief 3 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

I suspect that ISF should be a little more inviting than Shalebridge, though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

But ISF is considerably friendlier, yes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
