Wraith Crown
Hey, what good is the Wraith Crown? I was looking at it and was excited by the prospect of ethereal from a helmet, but since it auto-casts that undead thing I dont see how you could use it on an SC. It would rout as soon as all the skeletons were dead. Do you just make sure that the SC always has an army with it? That seems kind of lame and perhaps not worth the price? Does anyone even make these? I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

Re: Wraith Crown
It would be nice for an assasin to have for extra help when assasinating.
I think lifelong protection item stops the retreating when all troops are destroyed thing. |
Re: Wraith Crown
or just use it on a golem or something which wont rout
|
Re: Wraith Crown
While I've never personally used a Golem it strikes me as odd that they wont rout. All commanders rout regardless of power if all troops on the battlefield die. Which is why, if you're an SC, you dont want troops on the battlefield, ever. The only exception that I know of is immortal units in positive dominion, which will never ever rout.
|
Re: Wraith Crown
the golems dont rout because they are mindless constructs(i think) but they dont dissolve because they each have 1 astral to keep them alive. i know for a fact they dont rout because in my current sp test i used 3 golesm and a banelord, soon as 1 golem died (forgot to equip him) the banelord routed and it said my forces had routed and even though they could fly and had a clear escape route my golems kept fighting
|
Re: Wraith Crown
Immortals are also supposed to keep going in positive dominion, arent they?
|
Re: Wraith Crown
yes they are, so wraith crowns supprisingly enough work well on wraiths (though wraiths are already etheral so its not that useful on them)
|
Re: Wraith Crown
Golems, immortal commanders and commanders wearing the Slave Collar(not sure about this one) will never rout in friendly dominion. Immortal troops will rout. I suspect golems that have become troops, rather than commanders, might also rout or dissolve.
Circa one patch ago, the Wraith Crown was unique in that its autosummons never caused a rout if they were killed. I'm not sure if this was intentional, if it was reliable, or if it is presently true, but it was definitely a plus at the time. To the furthest of my knowledge, no other summoning/enslaving items have this advantage, not even the reanimating Twin Spear or the Tartarian Chains. |
Re: Wraith Crown
also, units that have gone berserk never rout (especialy if they start the fight berserk)
|
Re: Wraith Crown
try giving the hero a skeleton charm as well, and churning out more longdead every battle round.
the wraith crown is essential on my Army-of-one assassin armory. the crown, plus the fenris skin and wolf stone, lifelong protection and the lantern shield. your choice of boot and single handed weapon. (I prefer the death oriented twin spear, either the flight boots or the stone boots) of course with the fenris skin, you are auto-berserk, and wont rout no matter what |
Re: Wraith Crown
but with the fenris skin i thought u couldnt cast as you were berserk? i lvoe the pelt and if you could cast (or can) my boots choice would be boots of quickness, if you cant then i would use something other than the pelt and use an amulet of resilence for reinvig while raising more skeletons

Re: Wraith Crown
If the critters don't break morale, they don't rout : if they don't rout, they don't affect the commander. That's one way Zen's balance mod made a lot of pretender chassis's more viable, by giving the auto-summons morale 30, meaning they never route. If they all die no biggie : it's only when they route that the SC has a problem. |
Re: Wraith Crown
The Slave Collar only gives a +5 morale bonus, so it should not matter with routing and things of the like. I gather other mindless commanders also never, ever, rout? (Gift of Reason, or the Souless obtained through Army of the Dead, if memory serves)

Re: Wraith Crown
well, the wardrobe with the fenris pelt is designed more to maximize auto summons in battle, you don't give skeleton charm to that one, but skeleton charm to a normal commander with the crown... that goes a long way

Re: Wraith Crown
and dont forge soulstone of the wolves
try this: mandragora ettin with: twin spear (death) tartarian chains, and ?, wraith crown, skull face, soulstone of the wolves, skull talisman, boots of quickness. he gets lots of skeles at start of battle, can summon 10 more a turn (2x raise skeletons from skullface and boots) he gets a ton of wolves per turn, is etheral, has high health, and has sleep vines |
Re: Wraith Crown
maybe its just me, but I don't have a lot of luck at getting mondragora ettins...
|
Re: Wraith Crown
just saying :p with realatively high astral if you can afford to spend soo many gems equiping someone surely you couldd fit ina little wish ?
|
Re: Wraith Crown
well theres got to be a quicker way than wishing for them, also maybe I am spelling it wrong but wish wouldn't let me have a mondragora ettin.
they have to occur naturally though, somehow. |
Re: Wraith Crown
its mandragora ettin (or is it ettin mandragora) and the only other way to get one is a carrian woods hero, and then again if you have enough gems to wish for and equip this guy youve probably won already
|
Re: Wraith Crown
You can get regular ettins with crossbreeding (but you probably need high luck scale unless you want to drown in worthless [censored]) and the GoR them and equip that stuff. They're minus the undead immunities and sleep vines that Ambicephalos has, but they're available to anyone with nature and blood.
