Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

10 I would love to see this feature implemented. It would add more depth to the gameplay and a new element of stategy. As well as some more realism.

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

Sorry I can't see anything in it but frustration! You know the tale of Sisyphus? Just when you think you made it the unpredictable civil war will put you back at the beginning. That would be not a strategic game for me anymore but a game of chance. So for me it's 0.

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

Q, the civil war would NOT be a random event. There are set triggers and parameters that cause the civil war. Perhaps you didn't know this. I get the impression you think its a random event. Check out the intergalactic civil war thread overview in the named thread.

I think this is a good idea as it gives ramifications to the happiness of your people, and gives good reason to stay at war (bloodthirsty) or make peace (peaceful). A new dimension to the game is always a good thing. I give it a 10

I like the idea, along with pirates and locusts, I give it a 10, however, I think it should be put as an option because not everyone may want to use it or have it in the game, the same with pirates and locusts.

just some ideas mac

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

both, definitly a 10. And make everything optional so the people who want to play the original game 'untouched' can. One question though, how would the civil war thing work for people who start with 10 planets?? All ten are 'homeworlds' are they not?

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

I definately like the civil war idea as well. The way it was handled in Civ I and II was very balanced, and did not upset the gameplay at all. In fact, in early games, it made the mad dash to take the capital city while the empire was suffering from low morale a major strategic endeavor. I'd give it a 10 as well. As others have stated already, I do agree with the toggle at game startup to switch this feature off, if need be.

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

I think that it would basically game over for anyone getting it!
As of now the worst that can happen is a loss of one system to a nova or black hole forming.
So I give it a 1 as well.

Suicide Junkie April 8th, 2001 11:57 PM

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

Anyone who has this happen to them is almost certainly going to lose the game.

I'd give it a 5 if it was optional,
a 7 if it heavily depended on happiness,
and a 9 if the size of the rebellion depended on how big your empire is compared to everybody else. (Ie. if you're Last place, the rebellion is very minor, if you're first by a lot, then it could be up to half your empire)

BlueMage April 8th, 2001 11:59 PM

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

10. I like the option for keeping peacekeepers peacefull and bloodthirsty on the warpath. I also lean towards the idea of making this a really heavy intel project as discussed early in the other thread; ie 1 mil intell points or so (take over a year for even a large and developed empire to run).

Trachmyr, Aussie Gamer, Suicide_Junkie, BlueMage Thank you all for your feedback http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

SJ the civil war would depend heavily on happiness, and it would be optional. As for it depending on the size of the empire, that is a new idea and I will post it in the Civil war thread itself.

AG you could easily avoid getting this by defending your homeworld capital well and keeping your people happy. Otherwise you could just turn it off.

Bluemage do you mean only an intel project or an intel project along with the triggers?

Please post any response in the civil war thread. Unless you want to change your vote http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

Sorry for my sloppy post (clarification):

Intell project + triggers; basically if an empire is on the edge of civil war it should be possible for another empire to push it over.

I do not agree with it occuring without triggers; no revolution occurs when everyone is essentially happy with their respective government and society.

Basically I think any event should be triggerable by an intell project.

GruelThePurple April 9th, 2001 09:21 PM

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

I agree that the option should be toggleable at the game set-up.

I also think that Intell projects should be able to "help the process along", a la Anarchy Groups, PPP, etc.

And I think that with this type of enhancement, it makes the Emotionless trait much more valuable.

Overall, I'd give it a 7 (Given some of the other issues that really need help, IE: the AI).

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

I like the idea, but I think some kinks probably will probably need to be worked out, and it definately needs to be tested first. Other than that I would say there needs to be some more general fixes to the AI before new functionality is added. So overall I give the idea an 8.

dogscoff April 10th, 2001 12:07 PM

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

Give the idea an 10, although I agree that MM should give other things a higher priority.

I'm also uncomfortable with the idea of government centres being facilities that the player can build and scrap. I'd rather see an "automatic" implementation, with the player having only indirect control- moving gov. control from planet to planet should be an option though. Chewy- where can I find this thread summary ppl are talking about?

Dogscoff the summary is in the intergalactic civil war thread. I update it as new ideas/suggestions are given. It should be near the top of the thread.

And yes some other things should be ironed out first. But I think this idea would be a great new feature in the game http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

I dont think it could be done and still keep the game balanced. Once you have a civil war - your done. So I vote 0 - sorry

Planets already rebel. Problem is the next turn you can demand their surrender - and they will.

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

I think that this would only work if ships were tied more to the planets that built them .Then there would be a chance of some of your fleet going against you. Of course it will really piss me off if my best warship turned against me right before we were about to make a run at an enemy planet. I think that more things would have to be coded for actual crews. Which would most likely require them to use an idea I posted in another thread about 2 weeks ago about crews and populations.
While the idea would be a cool opion, I don't think it would work without adding actual crews and races (not crew comps) to the ships. (see my other Posts about the crews and pop usage.)

definitely optional. Definitely needs to be non-random. I like the idea of tying ships to planets so that they go to the new empire if their world rebels. It may not even take much code to do so.

Would definitely need to make it so the new empire would not just surrender next turn though. Rather pointless.

A rebellion that spreads would also be good, within limits.

Re: Poll/Vote for Civil War feature

I would have to say 6, as it stands.

If they included actual crews made up of the races in your empire /and maybe linking ships to planets then I could go higher.
With actual crews then you would have to manage captured races better becuase this would allow for other things to happen also.
