New Names for New races
 
Races have been added in a number of Mods,
But how about some ideas on New Names and New types of races (racial traits, etc.) that everyone would like to see added to game

Gotta have pirates and some type of space monsters. The space monsters could be the race that EVERYONE hates.

Racial traits eh? Well Nano-Tech has been tried in a mod. Worked ok if a bit too powerful. Here is some of my ideas: Truely organic (all ships etc are truely alive), Harmonic race (sound wave weapons), Phased race (all tech slightly out of phase, ie. cloaks and shield piercing weapons abound http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif), Undead (we need space zombies, working on this race myself but they would be fun), Mystical race (think b5 Technomages), Military Trait (use 'trained crew componants', 'command Posts' that enhance ground combat, REAL boarding parties and Transporters for them etc.). Maybe expand the religious tech to include worshipping different gods(war, peace, science etc.)
Well, just thoughts.......

In the mod I'm currently working on, I have all the original "special tech traits" (Except for religious, and I did/am adding Organic SHIPS and basic componets), in addition I have my own Version of Nano-Tech, Dimensional Manipulation, Gravitiy Manipulation (many Grav type componets have been improved and added here plus new ones (Anti-Grav Pack for Infantry, Inertialess drive, etc.) as well as World-Building trait (you must now have to build planets/ringworlds/sphereworlds/and I'm working on a couple more (Double world & Asteroid Colony)).

Name - Mel-Nath (The Hunters)
AI Race (Robotic)
Hates all Organic Life Forms believes they are the highest order in Univers
Atmosphere - None (can live anywhere)
Harmonic - Sound Wave weapons & Tech
Extreme Xenophobic
Extreme Aggressivness
High Research
High Intel
Militaristic
Extreme Expansionists
Diplomacy - 5%
Polictical - 0
Cunning - Above average
Computers - high
Not affected by plagues
Affected by Computer Viruses
either glazes planets or depopulates pop and replaces with their pop

What do you guys think

Lemmy, even tho you can't hear sound in space
(supposedly) sound waves do carry and go thru space, look at our radio transmissions that go out into space as well as Messages that various countries have sent out..

For a new weapon tech, if worked on could be a good addition.

Also how about a Race of Warrior Monks?, extreme Religious Fanatics, hate all other Religious Races?

radio transmissions are electronic waves, like light, IIRC from my physichs classes and sound is basicly a pressure change in the air, since there is no air in space you can't hear anything...

Radio waves are electromagnetic, with a longer wavelength than infrared. You need a radio to "convert" them back into sound.

I'm not sure if this really counts as "sound wave" weaponry, but the concept of using harmonics as weaponry is doable. Perhaps one of the harmonic frequencies of charged particle beam could cause the hull of the starship to resonate and fill the interior with a gut-wrenching sound.

Intense vibrations could also lead to intense heat buildup as well as causing metals to become brittle and easily shattered. Imagine the terror of the crew as they hear the rising pitch of their own hulls as the beam begins to crumble the high tensile alloy hull and realise that soon the relatively low air pressure inside the cabin will burst the hull like a worn bicycle tire.

Of course, variable frequency "disruptor" beams and "rotating shield harmonics" have already been done. Just thought I'd lend some imagery to the discussion.

what if you could intercept the communication frequencies of an enemy fleet and send really annoying sounds through them like britney spears http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif , doing damage to the entire fleet, but this weapon won't work against a single ship because they won't have any communication channels open.
is it possible to do damage against an entire fleet? don't think so, too bad

Disrupters and Particle Beam weapons I would think would fall under harmonic's/sound type weapons. This race would have these as their additional Tech, just like temporal, organic etc. They would still have all the other weapons just like the current trees. The range might not be as great as the regular weapons but disrupters would do some damage especially with heavy/massive mounts. What about the other traits listed? Anyone have any other new names or races??

The sound wave or sound beam weapon could fire a high velocity sound beam faster then the speed of sound, when it strikes anything tangible, it ruptures the atoms, electrons, ect, in the material, causing a small mini reaction similiar to a nucular reactor but on a very very small scale, which in turn would cause an explosion. The closer the target the more damage, the farther away the less damage done. The heavier the mount the stronger the sound beam or wave.

Now this sounds very cool, I can't wait to play your mod. Kinda reminds me of Spelljammer. Anyone else remember that old SSI game? I never tried the P&P game but the PC game was pretty fun.

My idea for a new racial tech can be found in a thread Last seen on the 5th of April, titled "D-tech (a modest suggestion=-)"

If anyone wants to resurrect my old thread that's fine by me=-)
