God I hate the SciFi Channel
You know, there are very few things in this world that just royally piss me off. One of those few things is the SciFi Channel.
In order to get as much money as they can get, they opted to list BSG season 2 as a 10 episode season. W T F!!!! They have done the same thing to Stargate SG1 now and it really is a discusting depressing trend in modern tv. Instead of having 22 or even 20 episodes per year, we are now getting fewer than 13. Hell 10 now! WTF!! I hate shows that only run 13 episodes a year, not that they are bad shows, but that there isn't enough of them. 13, now 10, is NOT A GOD DAMN SEASON OF TV! WTF!?? |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
I don't really know much about it, but isn't BSG more than 10 episodes this season, they just took a break for new year, the season continues this month. Or is that classed as a new season?
|
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
I believe its a continuation of the current season. No new season, but the break pisses me off. I want my new Stargate now!
|
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
Nope, its 10 episodes long and you can buy it at amazon.com or your local best buy. The third season, 10 episodes, is starting in Jan.
|
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
It isn't the third season, I think people are just thinking it is because of the amount of time between the two halves of the season.
Here is a site with a list of Season 2 episodes http://www.gateworld.net/galactica/s2/index.shtml The thing on Scifi is a pre order of Season 2 you wouldn't get it until the episodes have premired at least somewhere be it Europe or the US. |

But Colonel and CW are correct. It's still season 2. I saw somewhere on the SciFi website they were calling them season 2a and season 2b for both BSG and SG-1. You can buy a DVD with just the season 2 episodes that have already aired on Amazon, but if you read the description it's labeled as the "first half of season 2". |

Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
SciFi has split the seasons for several reasons.
1.) They get clobbered by the regular networks if they debut against "the big three (or four or five)" 2.) They probably discovered that fans would pay for a half season of BSG on DVD. There were 13 episodes in the first season, but if you add the miniseries, that brings it to around 19 (depending on how you count it). Ten episodes have aired so far for ths second half. That probably means another ten. 3.) Amanda Tapping (Col. Carter from SG-1) had a baby. 4.) These shows cost more than a million bucks each. The season returns this Friday with the second half of the seasons. I don't know how many episodes they will have total, but if the writing stays good on BSG I am satisfied with a 20 show season. BTW I went to a GameStop and picked up [a used] Season one of the new BSG for 20 bucks. It's a good New Year. |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
Wow Atrocities. You should really start laying off the caffeine if you can get worked up over Sci-Fi Channel scheduling. May I suggest you keep some reading handy. Perhaps some classic Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, or even H. G. Wells. If those are too mundane, try some Phillip K. Dick, or Haruki Murakami.
Now, if your copy of SEIV goes bad... |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
Well, it used to be that a full season was 26 episodes. That was decades ago. These days anything from 13 to 18 constitutes a full season. Why the powers that be think this is a good thing is beyond me. I'd rather watch my favorite shows than some lame-*** made for TV movie during sweeps month. Then there is Christmas specials. A whole month of Christmas specials! If they still can't fill the docket we get reruns of the first 4 or 5 episodes. Are we cattle? Or sheep? We must be. They have been getting away with it for years and AT's rant is about the worst we hear but we certainly don't turn off that damn tube and say "To hell with them!"
Moo! |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
Now I'm kinda pissed at myself for buying what I thought was Season 2. I found it at BestBuy.
I actually haven't seen a single episode of the current season. I screwed up my Tivo settings [bliss](Tivo... ah, Tivo!)[/bliss] and recorded over the premier. Not wanting to spoil it, and knowing I could get it on DVD later, I refrained from watching any of it. That was TOUGH! I was suprised that the whole thing was only 3 discs but now I understand why... and I'm kinda pissed. But I guess if the new episodes start again this week I'd better get watching!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Youre right GK... we suck. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |

Hear, hear! There is only a TV in my place because my roommate brought it. Hour long shows reduced to 26 minutes of show and 34 minutes of ads is just too much...

I just get livid pi**ed off at blatant attempts to rip people off. I guess my sense of right vs wrong is a bit stronger than it should be when it comes to things that I know I can not do anything about. Sorry guys, but the SciFi channel just royally pi**es me off.

Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
sci fi chanel in America has the weirdest horrible breaks, I can not speak for BSG, but I can for Atlantis and SG1, so I am almost sure it is the same for BSG.
What they do is air the first 10 episodes of each show, side by side, then they take a break for almost or over 4-6 months, then they air the second half. www.gateworld.net shows stargate sg1, stargate atlantis, like all other series of stargate have the full 20-22 episodes, but sci fi only showed the first half. England starts showing the episodes months later than sci fi, but then instead of having months and months off, we only have 2 weeks off for Christmas, then we get them both back, and usually finish the series 1 - 2 weeks before America. didn't the first series of bsg actually have under 10 episodes :S (excluding mini series?) anyway, looking at http://www.playusa.com/DVD/Region_1/...-/Product.html (where I get region 1 dvds for England) it says "the first 10 episodes" so it indicates that there will be a diffrent second half It really sucks for you! but dont worry, it will return! |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
Season one of BSG had 13 episodes.
The DVD set of Season 1 of BSG had the four hour premier movie from 2003 along with the 13 episodes of from 2004. |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
It would be kinda ok if the SciFi channel was only selling the first half of season two, but they aren't. Or at least that is the way it is appearing to be. Their web site is about has horrible as they come. Worthless is the best way to describe it.

Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
I don't like the 13 episode seasons and I don't like the the 8 week split in the middle of a 20 week season, and the special effects in the Scifi special movies are god-aweful. Mansquito? And what the hell was that flying dinosaur piece of crap? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif But I have trouble hating SciFi channel. As far as I'm concerned anything they need to do to make money and stay on the air is fine by me. I'm old enough to remember when the only choices for science fiction on TV were 34 weekly showings of the same six Star Trek episodes, and 2am reruns of "Krull" and "The Last Starfighter" on some grainy UHF channel.

Here, here.

Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
Maybe 13 episodes fit much better onto a DVD with extras and all of that?

The first half..... let us hope so.

Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
On the (possible) plus side. A long season means you cannot use the same writers for the entire run (no-one has that many ideas) you might get some consistency.
Something about most US tv which has always annoyed is the massive ups and downs in episode writing/plot quality. Since most of the crew will change between first and last episode the production style is going to change as well. And finally AT you should be glad you don't live in the UK where we have 'series' of about half a dozen shows not 'seasons'. |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
SciFi Inside...Battlestar Galactica last night...said that there were 10 ep of the first part of 2nd season, and there will be 10 more for the 2nd season...

Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
The thing that got me the most was that they were selling an incomplete season. 10 episodes for $40.00 is just a rip off. Normally you would pay $40.00 for the ENTIRE season, not just half of it. Its a rip off and that is what got under my skin.
What appeared to be the "complete" 2nd season of BSG, 10 episodes, might well be only half of the season. So instead of buying the entire season for $40.00 to $60.00, you now have to shell out nearly $100.00. That is just excessive greed. |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
Most of the boxed sets I have seen are 70-80 dollars a season...
|
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
/me has aquired firefly for $23
Best bargain ever..... |
Re: God I hate the SciFi Channel
Quote:
Firefly was only $25.00, as was Space Above and Beyond. The only series that know of that cost near or over a $100.00 are the Star Trek ones..... trying to bilk the fan ala Paramount style. |

I don't really watch TV, and haven't for four years now (since I started university), so I guess I have a little different view on the length of "seasons". As far as I'm concerned, a "season" is good in a scifi show if it has some sort of story arc that it follows, if it's multi-episode subplots have some sort of relation to the overall story (single-episode subplots are exempt, since they are usually comic relief), and if the conclusion of the "season" ties up the arc, but leaves more questions. Length, to me, is irrelevant. I think part of the problem AT's got here is a mistake in marketing for the DVDs. If SciFi decided to call the two parts of a "season" Series A and Series B, and sold it that way, then there wouldn't be a problem, because they avoid the association everyone has with "season". I think they tried to do that by calling it "Battlestar Gallactica Season 2.0", with the second half presumably being called "Season 2.1", but that's not obvious from the start, and a lot of people probably think it's a computer software reference ("Hey, Cylons are robots, computers! Get it?!"), and the marketing team probably thought that too, but didn't think of the reaction to half of a "season" as everyone else sees it. |
