Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

With all the good ideas on the threads, If we let MM know that we are willing to pay for an expansion pack with the major ones incorporated then maybe they would take the time and effort to create one. Otherwise its not financially possible for them to spend the time and effort other then just putting out patches for fixes. Therefore Please let everyone know how you feel.
Some of the additons could be, Pirate Race,
Civil War, New Names & Races, Names for 255 plantets, Ideas from the Mods like 1.70, Rage, and the rest, and so on. What do you think?

1. would you like to see an expansion pak
2. would you be willing to pay for the pak
3. would you like to see the ideas in this thread added as optional's
4. Which ideas do you like or would like to see in the pak the most

Just some ideas Mac

I would pay for an expansion pack. To expect MM to continue to re-design the game to add new idea for free isn't right. Hopefully they will continue improving the existing items and add items.

I wouldn't mind paying for an expansion pack as long as it wasn't too expensive. I would like to see exended tech trees, improved AI, maybe some extra races - things like that.

Perhaps Aaron can have some of the SE IV send different races and mods and choose the best of the best for the expansion pack?

I would pay for anything that can't be done by modding the existing game ourselves. But many of the features you listed are here free on the forum, so that would not be a reasonable expansion pack to pay for IMO.

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

I have already sent MM a note saying many of us would gladly pay for an expansion pack. I would be willing to pay just about anything reasonable for more features and races, get the civil war in there and some pirates. That would be a great expansion. ne thing I would really like to see though, which not many other people seem to concur with is the ability to play with more than 20 races at a time. Why 20? Why can't there be an unlimited number?

I would pay for an expansion pack as well.

Not only would I be willing to pay for an expansion pack... but I'd be willing to pay in advance... Let MM move this board to their site, charge a $20 - $25 fee to use it, and use that money to finance these patches.... but MM should give those that pay preference over adding new features... If MM sees that lots of people HAVE paid for new upgrades, they might even hire an additional programmer!

As for what features? The two recent ones were Civil War and Racial Feuds. But I also like all of my ideas too http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon10.gif

I would also, and I agree the pac needs to be something NOT done in the mods I for one have some in my game and find that it incresses the enjoyment that I get from it.
There could be a pac for more tech areas and different weapons. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

IŽll also pay for a expansion pack!

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

The expansion pak could provide for those ideas or mods that are not compatible with each other. MM & the designers could program them all into the game so they could all be used compatability wise with set as options.
This way, some of the good ideas in the mods could all be used in the game without having to change various files for each specific mod that you would want to play.

I agree with Mac. Incorporate the all the mods into one. Kinda like the Ultimate Mod over at Hyperion Base. Except thid one will be put in the game. Of course the expansion would also have new features such as the civil war http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

I have not sent MM a memo on the expansion pak as yet, I wanted to wait until there was some feed back from everyone first in order to see if the majority would go for the idea of an expansion pak (i.e.willing to pay for one). without the support of most of the gamers an expansion pak would probably not be financially feasible. That is why I was hoping everyone would vote or comment on the topic before sending MM a memo and after which they could read the thread for everyones comments.

I'd pay for an expansion pack but it would have to have quite a lot of new stuff. Pirates, Racial Feud, Civil war etc. There are also plenty of suitable ideas in the "patch wishlist" thread.

In addition I would like to see MM "officialising" some of the better player data (ie the best race styles, most popular mods) by adding them into the patch updates. I'm sure the authorss would love to see their work recognised like this and it would improv the "standard" installation of the game no end.

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

I will no doubt pay for an expansion pack, but I doubt MM can put all the suggested features in only one product.
For example in the past november I asked Aaron about a detailed tactical ground combat system and his anwer was that a possible add-on on this subject was already in his lists.
If there will be differents expansion packs i don't know if I will buy it all, probably yes but it will definitely depends on the sujects handled in each pack.

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

I too would like to pay for an expansion pack providing the features were significant. But I seriously doubt it could ever incorporate the races created by any of us, especially those that contain any type of well known race style like Star Trek, Star Wars, B5, and BSG. Even home grown ship styles couldn't be used. It just opens them up to potential lawsuits and even though most of us would be happy just to see some of our race styles depicted, there is always that one character that tries to take advantage of it...and it only takes one. Guys that continue to develop and update the ModPack and other similiar efforts is the best way to go...this also leaves the hard coding problems and updates to Aaron. All said and done, I believe the current arrangement works well.

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

I probably would go for the expansion pack if it added more features (abilities, tweaks, interface enhancements, tools, whatever) and seemed to be a good value. But then, I buy too many (good) strategy games... in a moment of weakness, I ordered EU and CM one weekend, and they both arrived on the same day. Decisions, decisions... ;-)

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

I would not pay for an expansion pack unless it contained some major new features. more than 20 races... more than 1000 star systems, more, more, more....
I definitely wouldn't pay to look at this forum, mods or otherwise.

Surely better to get SE4 finished and kill most of the bugs and then start developing SE5 with all the features that SE4 'should have had'.

chewy027 April 17th, 2001 07:58 PM

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

Instead of making SE5 why not continue to upgrade SE4. Have the expansion packs (yes plural) be comparable to an SE5. Then instead of buying a whole new game, we would just enhance this one.

mac5732 April 17th, 2001 09:36 PM

Re: Expansion Pack. Poll Yes/No/Comments

I would think that developing an expansion pak would be easier then designing a new SE5 format. By expanding on SE4, you are enhancing an already known product and adding, tweaking, fixing, or upgrading an established product. I would think it would be of shorter duration to design then designing/ programing a completely new game.
I agree that legal problems might arise from some of the mods but I don't believe it can't be done it would just take some work, but it should be shorter then coming up a new SE5 game. Look how long it took for SE4.

Tks for everyone's opinions & feedback,
