Update: Nova Deus v1.11
1 Attachment(s)
NOVA DEUS HAS BEEN UPDATED. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE NEW VERSION WITH THE LINK ABOVE OR FIND IT AT http://www.plutoniumdoughnut.com/dom...vadeus_111.rar
Enjoy! This is another new mod I have been working on in conjunction with Necropolis. It adds a few new pretender gods to the game that are available to all nations. They are: The Watcher Black Dragon http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif White Dragon http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image.../firedevil.gif Dirgesinger http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/skull.gif White Wizard Hearth Chosen (Man only)* Solar Chosen (Marignon only)* Justice Vengeance http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif * This post was edited to include these, which I forgot to mention. As with the Necropolis mod I have tried to keep these pretenders balanced, but will undoubtedly need help in that. So, check out the mod and let me know what you think and what can be improved. Thank you and enjoy! |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
once again access to specific path, file or device is denied

Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Wasn't for me.
The Dirgesinger seems useless, except as the human form of Black Dragon. Black Dragon, on the other hand, is very cool. I find it strange that R'lyeh can't have The Watcher, but it might be a bit redundant to them... I'd suggest giving White Wizard starting path cost of 20. You forgot to mention these two pretenders (Man/Marignon unique; they should be more widely available IMO): Hearth Chosen Solar Chosen The first one is really interesting, but should have Vine Shield. EDIT: See end of the post. The second one is quite similar. Both are interesting as 25 hp Immortal pretenders with 0 encumberance and cheap enough paths to get many combat boosts and even a low blessing. Very interesting, and they create a whole new role. Vine Shield might make the Hearth Chosen too powerful. Instead, they should have a new Vine Spear, which has the same Entangle effect as Vine Bow. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
i clicked the attachment, pressed open, it downloaded and then i got the access to specific device, path or file is denied...i really want to try these mods so any help is appresciated
|
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
I can't believe I totally forgot about the other two pretenders! It was early this morning when I posted though...
I was inspired by the Lunas Chosen pretender from the Avatar mod and thought a similar god for Man and Marignon would be easy. The graphics are not entirely my own, however, and are drawn from other mods as referenced in the Nova Deus .dm file. With regards to the Dirgesinger, I had hoped there was a way to give him Spell Song abilities like the Bard, but could find no references in the mod manual to help me out. The Watcher is unavailable to both underwater nations because for some reason I forgot to give it amphibious abilities. That will be mended in version 1.1. Thanks again for looking over my mod and the informed suggestions, Endo. Much appreciated. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Shovah, only you have problem with these attachments. Zepath has nothing to do with it.

Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
i never said it was his fault, just asked for help

Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
shovah,
When you click on links to attachments, you should get the option to "open" or "save to disk" depending on your browser. Select save instead of open. It should give you a save dialog box. Use it to navigate to where you want to save the file. Another problem you may have is that his files are ".rar" files. This is a compressed file (like a zip file) and requires and rar-capable zip program. There are many free ones available on the net if you don't have one. The files will have to be extracted from the compressed file before you can use them. Hope this is of some help. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Watcher would be a great pretender for any nation replacing Arcos, or if we will have a special dominions scrying as a theme for all nations in DomIII. |

edit: seems to be unzipped and downloaded but it dosnt show up in preferences... |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
The new dragons are cool. They are both very powerful SC platforms because air and astral have great bufs. Especially powerful is the black dragon that has astral, now thats a monster. Start game he can take indies solo after casting BE, astral shield (and maybe personal luck, astral weapon and twist fate) and then attack rearmost, end game he can astral tempest, enslave minds and so forth. Not to mention that it gives a nice blessing with MR and twist fate, this is good for fragile mages.
The watcher is very cool, I like its animation. For the white wizard I second Endoperez's suggestion. Very nice mod overall. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Thanks for checking out the mod, WraithLord. I appreciate the attention and opinions. I will, of course, continue to update it as I can. Given some of your comments, would it be out of hand to increase the base points cost for the dragons? It was my intention to make them more appealing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif than the simple colored dragons available to most nations and the two undead dragons. However, I did not mean to make them OVERLY powerful. Given that, I may raise their points cost to somewhere between 60 and 75 in version 1.1.

Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
I've only had a little time with it, but I like these mods already. The black dragon is waaay cool. The graphics for necropolis are top notch.

Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
I am working on refining Nova Deus right now and will hopefully be able to upload a v1.1 update sometime later today. It will include a few changes from what I put out on Tuesday as well as two more new pretenders that I have been working on.

Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Since this hasnīt come up yet, you need to give the human form of the black dragon the #gcost command.
Else you will get him dor free, since the code checks for the cost of the human form. He also seems to have a weird bug where it shows that new paths cost 10 in the pretender description, even though itīs correct in the design screen. There is also the problem that the dragons get the full magic paths and not -2 like the other dragons. So thatīs a pretty big advantage. Oh and the silver dragons lightning blast is just brutal. Strength gets added to the damage, so thatīs on average 37 armorpiercing damage with an Area of effect of 3. I like the idea of the virtues and vices, but they should be buffed. Only 30 hp is a big disadvantage for a combat chassis and with newpathcosts of 100 they are only good for single bless strategies. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Thank you for the help Turin. I've made many of the changes you suggested, but I'm not sure how to (or even if it's possible to) handicap the dragons' maximum magic levels.
The breath attack for the White Dragon has been fixed. I haven't play-tested that one very much at all and didn't realize I forgot the #nostr flag! Glad you liked the two new angelic pretenders. I thought it would be neat to have a few variations on the Virtue god. Again, thanks for your informed assistance. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
hmm I rather like it the way it is handled on the red dragon. His firebreath is dependant on strength, but starts with 0 damage. Since strength varies depending on dominion, that creates a quite nice dynamic.
I donīt think you can handicap the magic levels, but you could simulate a spellcasting weakness by reducing their base encumbrance to 0 and giving them a piece of armor with encumbrance 4(so that the spellcasting encumbrance gets doubled) . Not sure if that would be fun though. Oh I just got around to checking out the solar chosen and hearth chosen. Very well done, although they are probably a bit too cheap. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
I now understand the red's breath attack much better, and agree that it's a nice effect. Still, I wanted the White Dragon's breath weapon to be similar to the blue's, which has a base damage level with no influence from strength.
As for the chosens, they have the same points cost as the Lunas Chosen from the Avatar mod. I essentially tried to create the Hearth and Solar Chosen as facsimilies of the Lunas Chosen, but with the appropriate bent for the nations to which they belong. They do, I notice now, have a level of magic and the Lunas Chosen does not, and I suppose that would be worth a few more points. So, I may increase that value in a future update. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Little something that I thought just now:
Maybe the readme(s) should be put to the \novadeus\ folder instead of the main \mods\ folder. They would be actually easier to find, that way, as at least my mod folder is filled up with numerous mods and readmes. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
I hadn't noticed the new virtue and vice until yesterday, and didn't try them out until today. While both are quite interesting, Vengeance should be renamed Anger.
Any way, I thought to write up how I see the virtues and vices in Dominions terms. Vengeance, for me, means Blood Vengeance, Eye loss, spiky armor, damage shields, etc. Eye for an eye, and more! Amulet of Vengeance effect would be perfect. Justice. Your version is very good. Humility Humility is trust in a higher power, in one's allies. The Humility costs 0 points, and starts with no magic. New magic paths cost 35 points, dominions starts at 4. Humility is sacred, and has Holy 1 priestly level. With this, you can get: 80-point castle, dominion 6 AND level 9 blessing, OR 60-point castle, dominion 5, level 9 blessing and net +1 scale, OR 80-point castle, dominion 6, two level 6 blessings, OR 60-point castle, dominion 5, two level 6 blessings and net +1 scale. If you want to go for just good scales, Oracle is better because it starts with Astral 3. I envision Humility to be used for a blessing without cheaper option, and to get pretender able to benefit from the blessing. It would have to be tweaked to leave less points after blessings if people really use 40 and 0 point castles, which I have never understood. Greed LOTS of item slots. Mainly miscellanous ones. Produces 2 Fire OR 1 Earth and 1 Fire gem per turn, and has Alchemy. Can be modded to replace Ulm special pretender Master Alchemist if Alchemy can't be modded. Liberality, mercy Giving to others. Mercy would be tough one with both reinvigoration and recuperation and regeneration, but with slots for only body and two misc items (no weapons, Spirit Helmet, Chi boots... Misc has few nasties, but one can't be too restrictive.) Mercy would have a non-aggressive path (Nature?), high supply bonus, absurd Standard value, can heal others, with sailing and all the survival ablities, and Stealth +0. Might be better under another name, but I find the concept interesting. It could also be devided into unit leading under different name, and Charity as immobile, unmagical creature that can heal diseases and produces various gems it won't be able to use. This kind of Charity would preferably have the Lady of Fortune's luck-increasing effect. Lust Lust is flying, very stealthy, glamourous, and can seduce her enemies. I'm not sure if this can be modded, but the ability should be either the Succubus' Seduce or the Demon Lord's Dominate. This could be nasty, but there's only one of them. If it had the succubus ability, it would return to the home citadel after every seduction. I don't think Dominate does that, but I'm not sure. Chastity, continence High defence, glamour, high Awe rating, and all other non-aggressive defence buffs. Chastity is virtually untouchable. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif Love (of enemy) In battle, ability to charm the enemy. New weapon with Charm effect, or if it can't be modded, Enslave Mind, which isn't quite right but the closest thing. Anger Berserk fits this one very well. The current Vengeance would be very good, but I'd use Fire, an aggressive path, instead of Blood. Temperance, abstinence, self-control, and Courage, Fortitude Immunity, or at least resistance, to Fire/Cold/Shock/Poison, and high magic resistance. Courage would have also decent natural protection, encumberance 0, reinvigoration 2 and morale 30. Berserk +0 would make him unable to leave battle, which could also fit quite well. Gluttony Gluttony would consume lots of supplies, of course. Gluttony would also drain life from anyone he touches, and if possible, he would have Life Drain aura. Special attack, which insta-kills if the target fails a magic resistance roll, and weakens armor. Envy Taking from the other, and dealing permanent damage. Life drain, but also ability to deal afflictions. Disease Aura. Maybe even fly, high stealth, glamour, and Bane Charm ability to destroy population. Certainly different, if the last one can be modded in! |

Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
thanks, it worked
|
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
I was scoping this mod for a dragons mod I had in mind, the thing where the dragons don't lose paths upon changing really makes them to powerful.
whats the command line to make it work that way, anyway? |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
I like this mod http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
The dragons look like fun and I like the Virtue/Vice concept (Yeah, I was thinking Wrath instead of Vengeance or Anger, but it's still a pretty sweet idea.) My only wish is that there was a better way to work Dirgesinger's abilities, because I've been in love with that kind of archetype for years. There's no way one could tweak it so that undead couldn't be summoned while he's on the field or anything like that, is there? Or give him a ranged fear area-of-effect attack? (Forgive my noob-ism. I've had this game for a year, but my mind doesn't take very well to technical thought.) |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Ranged Fear AoE might be possible, actually. If any weapon with Fear already exist, you can make a ranged weapon with 0 damage, no str added, AoE Z, and special effect Fear.
If you want to know what would be possible (in weapons) beside damage, the various unit/equipment lists list special effects weapons can have. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
there are only a few AoE special effects available for new weapons. Petrification, fear, cold/heat, and death I think are basically it.
all other secondary effects will only hit the targeted square of the weapon, and not the AoE the weapon covers. |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
what more would you really want though?
|
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Well I don't suppose I could rightly tell you that clean-like.
It's just a concept that I don't think the system do justice. But imagine it: An ashen and somber leader of a nation, dispelling the perversions and trespasses on the sacred rest, while calling back the souls of noble warriors to fight again for their cause. His presence on the battlefield would be chilling to the enemy, his unflinching acceptance of the presence and role that death plays, yet this acceptance would inspire his soldiers to accept death themselves, inspiring them to fight to the point of breaking for their cause. But this is pretty off-topic, isn't it? |
Re: New Mod: Nova Deus
Depends... Death 9 blessings gives your sacred units Fear, makes the mage emit Feat (thanks to Death magic), and makes the sacred units continue fighting as Soulless when they die.
Of course, no mere human should achieve that level of power more easily than Prince of Death, but Death-9 Dirgesinger could be available in pre-set Scenarios. |
