Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Is it an official patch? SE4 Homepage has no information on it.
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Since it's available from Strategy First's website, the official distributor of SEIV, then yes it will be an official patch. Malfador is sometimes just a little slow about updating his webpage. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Well it is more official than the game EXE itself that was on the site last night. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/stupid.gif

Well that was a scoop that no one got. Job well done CK. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
If you made a copy of your gold directory to apply the big Deluxe patch then you'll have problems with the patch (i.e. incorrect version error). Just change your registry entry (under Strategy First, just use find) for Space Empires your proper Deluxe directory and you'll be fine.
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Another caution:
The patch causes the mod launcher to bork when loading a mod (not a saved game) that has a pictures/game/dialog directory and no startmenu.bmp file. You can add the startmenu.bmp file to the specified folder to fix. Perhaps it would have been better if the start menu just included a mod launcher itself... |

Ugh, dammit. I'm gonna ask aaron if we can get a patch to undo all the pointless degrading startup crap that has been added. Why the hell would we need a start menu or a series of pointless spash screens? [/rant] When we run the exe, we want the game to just start already, right everybody? |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Definitely!
Seems like I should be happy I'm sticking with 1.91 for now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
I agree for the most part. If it contained something in addition like special setup features or a mod launcher than it would be fine. I understand why he probably put it in, but it's introducing other problems now...
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
It was an inovation added because too many dumb asses could not figure out how to start the game. I agree, it is an un-needed extra step that only serves to piss people off. No offense Aaron, we all know your just trying to make the low brow folks happy.
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Well should we wait to see what Aaron does here, or go ahead and update our mods?
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Ummm.... what? You still have to click on the same icon to get to the new menu that you would click on to load it before. It does not make starting the game easier. It does make it easier to see that there is a readme and a manual and such, since you see them just by launching the shortcut in the start menu.

Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
If I were you AT I'd update the STmod at least to try and counter the pending error reports you'll get.
I'd also think the game would revert to the default image is it wasn't present as it would with other picture folders like planets etc. |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Thanks CK for the update on how to address this bug. I tell you had my system wigging out pretty damn bad, my Desk top was flickering and what not. It had to kill SEIV via the alt/ctl/del command screen.
After reading your fix, it was easy enough to do. Thanks again. Update posted. And thank you for helping with the players problem in the SE.net forum. You nailed it on the head when you said he just installed the patch without first having installed the full version of the game. I went over board with my response, I guess the uporic feeling I am currently having as a result of the new meds for the back pain, is effecting my desire to over type my replies to simple problems and questions. Much like I am doing now. Thanks again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
The screen will do that flicker thing when you try and close the start menu with a right click from the task bar...
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
It will also do it if your new image is not the correct size. Oops. So much for using a custom image, for now.

Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
umm.... call me a Damascus, but all the patches listed on that link are 1.94... [InigoMontoya]...which I have...[/InigoMontoya].

It also appears the patch has been taken down from Strategy First - I wonder if MM is making a few fixes... |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
SFI removed the patch from their site after too many people who had the downloaded version (already 1.95) tried to apply the patch - anyway the forum moderator said another patch was due for d/l version, so I suspect another little patch is on its way.
MM mentioned in an e-mail that the start menu is needed for the Steam version, and that so in making all versions the same it got put in regular. However, he didn't reply specifically in reference to fixing the 'bugs' it introduced. |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
So, steam requires the start menu, eh?
And all this time, it was supposed to be just a distribution channel. I really hope the start menu dosen't screw up PBW. And I hope we can get a command line flag to skip right to the game loading. |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
You've got stone, m'lad.
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
MM told me that the startup screen was necessary for the Steam version and to be fair, you can press any button to move through the publisher/MM screens in no time. I told really care about the extra 3 seconds it might take.
He is going to fix the missing startmenu.bmp problem with mods for the next patch. |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Thanks for the update. I have downloaded the patch before it was taken off the site, but I haven't applied it yet. I think I'll wait for the next new patch, if and when it comes out. Actually, I'd prefer that Aaron concentrate his energy on SEV...
I'm grateful that the beta testers are pushing Aaron to make SEV a great game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
I would prefer that Aaron spend more time working on SEIV at the moment since it is the game that is currently being sold by SFI.
Sorry Shrapnel, I really wish you guys were still selling the game... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif SFI seems to be having some difficulty managing things at the moment. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif |
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Heh it just seems they have this obsessive need to throw their name all over the game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif As if people give a flying f*** who the publisher is...
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
Err... I think it was MM's new setup starting with Star Fury (and yes, it had a Shrapnel logo during startup too) that launched this title screen stuff (well ok, it was also in SEIII too). Anyhow, having one little logo pop up is hardly putting their name all over it.
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
The patch is back up on the Strategy First site now. Do you know if it's the exact same patch as the one that was taken down, or is this a new patch? It has the same version number, 1.95.
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
The patch has grown by 33 KB.
|
Re: Patch to Deluxe 1.95 Available!
I downloaded the patch and was allowed to patch my existing 1.95 - but couldn't find anything different. The startmenu problem still exisits. So I would assume the extra Kb represents something that prevents the Steam version from being messed up etc.

Playing Mods in SE4 v1.95
What is needed to play a modded game if you patched SE4 to version v1.95 (or have downloaded v1.95)?
I suppose (after reading news at Space Empires Net) that the Mod launcher is not working anymore, because of the new menu-screen... Is it still possible to play a modded game editing the path.txt file? |
Re: Playing Mods in SE4 v1.95
It must be...
Otherwise all steam users would be missing out on 95% of the game by not having mods to play. |
Re: Playing Mods in SE4 v1.95
The problem is loading mods that have a Pictures\Game\Dialogs folder but no StartMenu.bmp folder inside. To load them, you need to copy the stock one into the mod's folder. This has nothing to do specifically with the mod launcher, however. You can launch mods from the mod launcher or by editing path.txt after you copy the file over.
Loading old savegames seems to result in a data file error. You can still load them from within the game no problem, however. New savegames created in 1.95 can be loaded from the mod launcher just fine. |
Re: Playing Mods in SE4 v1.95
The STM has an intrum patch out. You can download it and install it to get the Star Trek Mod to work.

Playing Mods in SE4 v1.95
So, it seems that if a mod don't "mod" the Pictures/Game/Dialogs folder (the unmodded game is used) the mod will be loaded OK editing the path.txt file AND you can load mods using the mod launcher. This is good news!
I saw ths STM patch somewhere but I can`t find it now. Is it the Deluxe CD owners patch listed in the STM site (a 8 mb aprox. download)? Or is it another file? Thanks! By the way, what is it all this fuss about "steam users"? |
Re: Playing Mods in SE4 v1.95
You can find the fix here:
http://www.spaceempires.net/home/ftopict-1218.html You can also just copy startmenu.bmp from the pictures/game/dialog folder to the pictures/game/dialog folder of the Star Trek Mod too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif There is no real 'fuss' about steam owners. I suppose that some of the steam-version buyers tried to apply the 1.95 patch (which was for the regular version) which might have caused them problems... so SFI removed the patch download temporarily until last night and a new appeared... which I assumed prevents the steam-version from being patched. |
Re: Playing Mods in SE4 v1.95
The intrum patch was posted a couple of days ago and ONLY address the 1.95 missing startmenu issue. It contains no other update info.
You can find it by scrolling down the list of topics. It was posted a couple of days ago so its still on the main page of topics. If not go to SE.net and grap it from the Star Trek Forum there. |
