OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
While researching stuff for a game (the Terran empire history is useful) I came across this website
http://canonfodder.ex-astris-scienti...ration_Society I already knew the Federation was socialist, now it turns out its a borderline military dictatorship. |
Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
Ehh. There's quite a few sites out there proclaiming the Federation a militaristic fascist (or even nazi) state. No big deal.
And so what if you see a lot of Starfleet in the ST government? After all, they're not a purely military organization (most ship classes are designated as Explorers) and who's to say there aren't any civilian advisors, etc. offscreen? All in all, quite the case of Deja Moo. |
Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
Well the Feddies are a bunch of commies but if anything they are too SOFT militarily not too powerful. Heck when is starfleet NOT getting it's butt kicked up between it's shoulder blades?

Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
I have always said the Federation was an evil thing that needed to be crushed beneth the boots of the Klingon Empire!

Star Trek's on the way out anyways. I read something recently; that the Stargate series is rivalling the Star Trek series in popularity, and still growing. No wonder too, the acting is in general much better and the storylines much better. |

At least, it was until we had a season where every episode featured a bigger, badder enemy trying to blow up/capture/otherwise neutralize the earth and/or the entire galaxy... Not very creative or interesting in my opinion. |
Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
Perhaps you're thinking of it the wrong way.
Kirk was the only real military type of guy. Everybody else is a politician on the front lines. Now the mirror universe, on the other hand... that's military in the government. |
Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
I liked those mirror universe episodes. The women were sexy and everyone got to behave badly, and vulcans get goatees.

Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
You don't see many civilian advisors for the same reason there hasn't been a single SG-1 episode about accountants. Because it would be boring.
But, government being government, who wants to argue that there aren't accountants in the SGC? |
Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
Robert Picardo (holodoctor on voyager)Played a risk management advisor in SG-1. Always looking at the bottom line in assets used in the SG-1 missions, he was making recomendations for some sort of oversight of the program. As I recall though he learned a valuable lesson and civilian control of SG-1 was put off for another season.
I would think that a UFP assembly would be like the Republic assembly in Star Wars. Talk, talk, talk, and no action. The military is just protecting these citizens against enemies foreign and domestic (beauracracy)!!! -Poodles are the 'uncle tom' of the dog world. |

Ok, someone enlighten me - who is Andrew Wiggin?
|
Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
And ST had the occasional civilian.
But the SG-1 episode with Robert Picardo was about man-eating bugs...Not accounts. |
Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
Andrew Wiggin is the protagonist from the Orson Scott Card novel "Ender's Game".

Re: OT- Peoples Republic of the Federation
He was in multiple episodes causing trouble.
Kinsey was using him against the SGC for some time, and had him push the propaganda to the new prez after the election, too. |

Eh. I havn't really kept up with SG. For some reason, the later stuff just isn't as interesting.
Although it might just be my general disinterest in tv right now. |
