Why oh why?
 

I have wrote to MM about this problem and am waiting to hear what they advise; but, till then I wouldn’t mind some other feedback. I downloaded the latest patch for SE4 and it wouldn’t apply. I removed then reinstalled the game and tried the patch again. I still get some message about needed version not found or something to that effect. I had a backup of the patch that takes the game to v 1.78 Gold and applied that one no problems. I tried the latest patch again and I am still getting the same error.

The version of SE4 Gold I have is 1.60 Gold on CD bought here from Shrapnel ages ago. I thought maybe since the game CD was so old that might be the problem but the patch info specifically says it will upgrade version 1.60 Gold.

So any thoughts as to why this patch is not taking?

Hey man, been long time no post.

There have been some reported issues with this patch and for the most part everyone seems lost as to why.

At this point I would only upgrade to version 1.91 and call it good for now. The latest patch really doesn't do much any ways aside from fixing some rare bugs that most gamers won't ever experience.

I would check out se.net to see if Fyron has any of the original patches posted there, or check out gamespot.com as they have all of the original patches too.

Here is the 1.91 patch. You can get the 1.94 patch from game spot. You might try to install that instead of the 1.95 patch

I think I figured out your problem. You might need to install the 75 meg 1.94 patch PRIOR to attempting to install the 1.95 patch.

Version 1.94 will all previous version of SEIV, SEIV Gold to SEIV Deluxe. After you install that patch, then install the 1.95 patch. Good luck.

Haven’t posted in a while? Yep you know how that goes. After that big round of fighting, the flavor of the members changed, encountering a stonewall to my mod, etc I just couldn’t find a reason to post anymore. Add to the recipe members who join, spam a thousand plus posts to up their rank then act as if they are see all know all members who can dictate to the rest. Anyway life moves on and I hope to make a comeback but for now I will just wait and see how the present members are. Besides after five years it would kind of be a shame to just disappear forever. I have never been big on posting anyway, not many knew me before and I don’t think many do today so that should let me slip around and get a good feel for things.

Now about the patch:
Thanks for the link and I downloaded the 1.94 and the 1.91 patch. The 1.94 took just fine so I am going to keep with that one. What new modding tools are out there anymore? I seem to recall one that allowed a semi-GUI for modding the components but it had some major bugs so I stuck to working on things the old fashioned way; by hand. Shouldn’t there be a sticky or post around here somewhere that lists everything available? I know I have seen it before but when I looked this time I couldn’t find it. I’m betting I looked at the right thread and just scanned it to quick.

Have you moved or renamed your SE:IV directory since installing? If you so, you'll need to edit the registry entry for the game to point to its new location so the patch will work.

Also, are you installing the 73Mb patch? That's the one you should be using.

There's been occassional problems with the time stamps of .exes in the past, but that's probably not the case here.

The modding program you're referring to, DavidG's SE:IV modder and was last updated to work with the 1.91 abilities.

I got the 1.94 to work and it looks fine. Since SE5 is coming I will leave it at the 1.94 version.

You have to install 1.94 before you can install 1.95. 1.95 is not capable of patching from anything previous to 1.94 (or 1.93 for purchasers of Deluxe).

I just got a message back from Aaron and there seems to be a small misunderstand with the latest patch. Now I have SE4 1.60 Gold on disk so keep that in mind if you are reading this post with the same problem. That being that you can’t get the latest patch to take. He told me that I needed to install the game fresh, apply the patch for 1.94, and then apply the deluxe patch 2. That is what I did and it took no problems.

I think that is what you just said Fyron? Are you calling 1.95 the deluxe 2 file? Just started the game and I see you are; deluxe patch 2 = v1.95.

The 1.94 patch is a patch to "Deluxe SEIV". I guess that make the 1.95 patch a good call for Deluxe 2.

I have 1.91 at work, and 1.94 at home. Both work great, but i thelped me a lot when I heard here you could hit any key to pass through the Deluxe splash screens. Normally I just would leave and comeback a while later. Now I think the Loading game could even be faster with Deluxe after you hit a space bar.
