OT: How bout those Lady Terps?

Maryland’s lady Terps just won the NCAA’s. 78-75 in OT! The second half was some of the best round ball I’ve seen all season. Duke was bigger and stronger, but the Maryland team out ran em down the stretch.

The University of Maryland woman’s basketball team won the NCAA basketball championship tonight. Beating a much favored Duke team by overcoming a 13 point deficit and winning in overtime. They were considered to be too young and too small to beat Duke. IIRC, the oldest player is a junior. This is a big win for the Terps, only three other schools have NCAA titles in both men’s and women’s basketball.

Yeah, that does sound like an achievement.

As a very irrevelent note, someone needs to get some non-gender-based leagues going. Apparently, men and women are equal; doesn't that mean they should compete together?

Men and women aren't equal physically, thus the usual gender separation in sports. Not that there aren't some...ahem...rather husky women out there that I'd rather not meet in a dark alley somewhere http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Duke has a female player that looks like she could play with the men. She is big, tall, big, fast, big, hard looking, and did I say she was big. She looked like she could really bring the whoopass if needbe.

Yes, but putting artificial gender restrictions on players strikes me as somewhat sexist.

On the other hand, I see nothing wrong with mens' and womens' clubs - Sometimes, you just gotta get away - But, there's a fine line between seperation and segragation.

And given that I cannot recall any major mixed-gender sport...

But it's way to soon for an OT.

Go Terps!

IIRC, tennis has mixed-double matches, but then it's still M/F vs M/F, no M/M vs F/F or M vs F or anything like that. Just M/F vs M/F. Well, it's mixed anyways.

Like high school wrestling. I remember seeing a report on TV a few years ago: some schools that can't field both male and female teams allow mixed teams and M/F matches. Wrestlers compete within weight classes, which removes the size issue, at least on a gross level. The show featured one female wrestler (100 lb?) who was having some success against male opponents.
