A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I have experienced this twice. Start a game and play with no problems or errors. Quit the game. When I try to reload the game later I get an unable to read saved game.
I have sent the Last save game to MM. I also had the map editor crash a map. I had created a map and had used it in the first game. When that game couldn't load, I decided to change two of the starting positions, but then recieved an error when trying to save. So I exited the map editor but when I reload the map, all the planets where gone - the systems where present, but no planets or warp points. Unfortunately I deleted the maps or I would also send it to MM. Anyone else experience this bug. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I have had problems with 1.35. When trying to generate a turn, it says that the player file is from an earlier turn. Maybe it is, I'm not sure. Also I have had crashes. File not found errors. Etc. I'm not using the TDM-ModPack anymore, it caused some problems at least. 1.30 worked much better.

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I had not crashing problems with 1.35.

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Well it happened again with another game, although all is not totally lost. I wanted to reload back to the previous saved game and it crashed, so I had to go back to the beginnig.
If I save the game before anything is done then I have no problems, but once I process a turn any game I save can not be reloaded, so I can not stop the game. My next step is to re-down load the patch - maybe it was corrupted and reinstall the game. I am sending the save game files to MM. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
This is what I sent to MM, hopefully they can fix it.
I am continuing to experience crashes with the save game files. The first file is before anything was done. The second file is after one turn. The third file is the automatic save game file after 10. The fourth file is before I run the turn but after I pick the tech, and select the construction que, and change the empire settings. The fifth file is a word document with a screen shot of the errors from each file in order. I can save the game after the initial setup and reload it, but once I do anything I can no longer re-load the file. I will redown load the patch and reinstall the entire game and then try again, but the game is currently unplayable. I cannot just leave my computer on 24/7 and never stop the game. Also I like to go back to previous points if I make a mistake and try something new. It is like you have some built in no cheat feature for PBEM games that is totally screwing up my game. I would appreciate a fix. Thank you. I will now re-down load and re-install. Maybe I just got a corrupted down load on the patch. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I had another problem with 1.35. When I used the command line interface to generate a turn (hosting with PBEM helper), it did not work. It did nothing. When I did it manually, it worked.

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Well I thought I had it isolated but not sure. I have sent all the save game files along with the custom map and everything else to MM so hopefully they can fix the problem. I was looking forward to playing a game on my custom map, but I guess I can't.

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Well it happened again, this time on a game after over 45 turns. I just saved the game and then quit. Then just for a test I attempted to reloaded the game and I get the same save game error. I can reload the first three turns when I scrapped a facility and built a different one. I give up. I guess I have to stop playing until MM fixes the bug. I sent them the Last save game file.

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Did it look like this?
(see attached JPG) |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Yes that is the same error - Do you have a solution!
|
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Yes, KEEP COMPLAINING!
Obviously, v1.35 is buggy as all hell, and we need to encourage MM to fix it ASAP http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I went to load a previously saved game from Version 1.30 - and it loaded a completely different galaxy - even all the autosave files did as well. Completely gone. Sad.
I must admit, there has been lots of bugs so far! Visit the Spoogy Federation at: http://spoogyfederation.tripod.com |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
This is really odd. I have saved games at turn 1, turn 10, and turn30 and am able to re-load with no errors. Now I do not have this set on automatic, I just make the saves myself. But I cannot duplicate this bug. Maybe because I have no mods or other stuff in my game? Just plain vanilla SEIV.

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I just got the same error when I tried loading the file that SJ has posted on the Strategic Help thread. Try it out, maybe it's a problem for specific computers.
Haven't had any problems with a file from my own machine yet though. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure that that error is just an artifact of my savegame having components not available in the "old" public Version of Pirates & Nomads. A new Version is now available.

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Jourin and Possum, did you used maps edited in map editor when you received these errors?
Btw. I have received the same error message as you guys did and I have a fresh installation of game and 1.35 patch (and I was using edited map). Of course, I have lots of mods so my savegame is of no use for bug fixing. It would be nice if somebody could send MM an unmoded savegame with this error so that it can be fixed ASAP. I suspect Map Editor is responsible for this since it produces lots of Access Violation errors. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
hmmmmm, so far I have not received any errors while actually using my created maps. but I am only 20-30 turns into the first one and only 5-10 turns into the 2d one.
only actual mod I have are a components.txt file and the .wav's from TampaGamer for his sounds mod for 1.35 and a PD mod (allows for PD at start and big PD mounts). |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I set autosave for every turn on my 1.35 game, because of all the error reports here, but I haven't gotten any yet running without mods. I haven't tried the Map Editor yet, though. My biggest problem has been that the second empire I encountered was the XiChung. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/shock.gif

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
OK I started a new game with NO mods, but using a custom map created with the Map editor. Started Game, saved, no problems. Did one turn saved then played for 20 turns and saved. Attempt to reload saved games gets same error as before.
I agree that I think it is the map editor. have sent save game files along with screen shots of error Messages and custom map to MM. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I have now gone thru something like 50 turns with my large, custom map and no load save game problems...yet...
|
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Daynarr,
Yes, I am using a custom map, which I'll attach. I am not, however using any mods. My SE4 game itself is totally plain-vanilla http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Yes, it is almost certainly related to use of the map editor. But what the heck, I mean, it's a new SE4 toy, of course we're going to play with it until it breaks http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Thanks for asking, Daynarr, you're one of the good guys around here. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
It reads like the more you have mod'ed the game the bigger the errors.
I have been playing two multi-player games by e-mail and a single player game. The only errors I have so far are with the non-MM empires, all wrong names in default strategies <fixed!>. This only occurs if they are an AI not when a human is playing them. I have a fairly mode'ed component, settings, and facilties data files, mostly new stuff. So it looks like that you have to get on to the mod'ers and get them to fix up their mod's for V1.35. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Did you guys give planets/storms/ect. special abilities that aren't found in the normal game? like shield generation to a planet, or anything wierd like that... if so perhaps that's the problem.
|
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
Jourin that's great! I hope it will help MM to fix this problem.
Possum, if you don't use any mods but this map you have posted (I can't see anything wrong in it), you should send that corrupted save game to MM so Aaron can fix it. The funny thing with this is that I haven't made anything new with my game since 1.30 patch (all the mods I use now, I was using on previous Versions as well, and they worked just fine with no errors at all). The only major difference is this map made in Map Editor, but even there I haven't made anything drastic (like adding strange abilities to planets and such things). All people that get more of these Messages when trying to load a save game and don't use any mods should send that save to MM with explanation so that MM can fix them. More mails to MM mean more attention to the problem and faster solution. |
Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
It may not just be the custom map, but a combination of factors. I can play the game with a custom map and save and reload with no problems, and then I do something that causes the save game to crash.
I think one of those somethings is scrapping a facility on the first turn and building a different facility that what was present a the start. This is the only something I have been able to consistently duplicate. But I have also played games where I do not do that and still get the error I just can't isolate what caused it, because the something could occur at turn 10 and you could play to turn 35 before you save and reload and get the error. |

quote:
I can play the game with a custom map and save and reload with no problems, and then I do something that causes the save game to crash.

Just had a thought: are you reloading a game that you saved during the current play session? Or are you saving a game, quitting the game, relaunching SE4, and loading the saved game? I still haven't run into any bugs, but every saved game I've used was loaded from Resume Game rather than Load Game. I vaguely recall running into a similar problem in some other program.

Re: A 1.35 BUG!!!!!!!
I have done all. Try to re-load a saved game from within SEIV, quit and then try to re-load, and just use the resume game. If I have problems with that saved game it doesn't matter. Also this dosen't happen consistently. If I scrap a facility on the first turn and build a different one I got the error about 7 out of 10 times, yet on three occassions I did not get the error yet did the same action. On one game I didn't scrap facilities and it still occurred and I don't know why. My best guess is that a field in the Saved Game, probably tied to the map has a chance of getting corrupted each time the game is changed, and some changes/actions have a greater chance of corrupting this field than others. I am only playing a totally unmodded SEIV game, but using a custom map, and everytime it happens I will send the saved game to MM. Actually it is interesting replaying the same turns as you get to see the furture and thus make better decisions. It is also allowing me to rediscover the fun of an unmodded game.
