The Senate of Dragon Country [server is up!]

The game is up:
ip: 70.29.202.130
port: 2350

Game Settings
Map: Dependent on Players
Starting Provinces: 1
Indy strength: 9
Magic Sites: 50
Richness: Normal
Events: Common
Graphs: Enabled
HoF: 15
Research: Difficult
Victory Condition: ? (i'm thinking 1/3 of provinces maybe?)
Master password: Enabled
Renaming: Allowed
Cheat Prevention: Active
Mods: Dragon mod and CB 5.4 (i'm pretty sure they are compatible)
Death themes not allowed (SG, AE and CW)

Rules
1. All nations are encouraged to select a dragon pretender, to act as a Senator. I think it would be good if everyone included "Senator" at the beginning of their pretender's name.
2. Any player not selecting a dragon pretender will not be able to act as a senator or vote on any proposals.
2. Any nation, including non-senators, may put forth any proposal to the senate. The proposal must be numbered (preferably in order, but any number not taken is acceptable). Proposals are to be posted in this thread. Every Senator is allowed to vote either "Acceptable" or "Not Acceptable" to each proposal. To vote, they will send an email to castigatedominions@gmail.com with "Proposal #x" as the subject, and their decision in the body of the email.
3. If 50% of voting Senators deem the proposal as "Acceptable", then it will be so. Anyone may confirm the vote at any time by logging into this account at gmail.com . The password is "dominions". Please don't delete anything from the inbox on this email address.
4. No player is allowed to attack any province controlled by any other player, without the council's permission. Players may attack any province with a white flag at any time.
5. If the council deems that another Senator may attack your province, you are still allowed to defend said province as you see fit.
6. If two players attack the same province on the same turn, this will not be considered as breaking any rules, assuming both Senators leading attacks on the province were allowed to do so. Whoever controls the province at the end of the turn will become the rightful owner.
7. Spies, stealthy preaching, creating unrest with stealth, and anonymous attacks are allowed, but if detected, can be used as reasons to convince others to vote a certain way in a proposal.
8. Any player breaking any of these rules will become a rogue nation for a duration of 5 turns. Any player may attack another player in rogue state without penalty from the council.

Senators (please include your race and which dragon you'd like to use)

Introducing Senator Kr'Clidack, the everliving.

uhh...mork. i definitely called rlyeh on the old thread. and when i made the first post originally, i called it. i think you're out of luck, but if you REALLY want it, you can have it.

i was pretty set on it and excited, though.

i guess i could enable master password. i just feel like people could accuse me of something. if that's not the case, though, i'll switch it to enabled.

Mictlan for me with the draco sanguinus please. thanks for offering to host btw (i probably would have messed it up anyway)
edit: all hail senator vicente valtiere!
ps: if we get a few more players i suggest saephi as the map

Just being the host (even w/o the master password enabled) gives you more than enough power to maliciously effect the game. You can delete people's turns, force-host to make an enemy stale, or delay host to give yourself more time, etc. But having a master password at least enables you to handle any logistical problems that pop up with your players. Like if someone just wanders away from the game without saying anything, you can at least AI or sub them with the master password.

Ill take arco, but would like to play without a dragon as a pretender. I accept all the consequences of this, such as having no vote on propositions, etc. Any other consequences you think make sense Id like you to list and I will probably accept(just making sure there are no surprises).

If yall dont want something like this....well, put me down as a maybe.

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

i assume that's fine. i say he can still put propositions forth, and is view as an honourable nation by the council, unless he breaks other rules, at which point he will become free game for 5 months time. he will not have a vote.

shovah April 12th, 2006 06:13 PM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

i have an idea for non dragons: extend their 5 month time a little bit, nothing game altering but just a bit of an extra incentive to be a dragon

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

i still don't think they should be able to vote. if other people agree with you, though, then cool though.

talking to pk, he sort of expected to be "fair game" to everyone for the whole game...so i don't think he's too picky.

Peacekeeper April 12th, 2006 11:38 PM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

I have no intention on getting a vote on propositions. I can understnad extending my 5 months rogue statue.

I didnt expect to be fair game, i said it would be interesting to play it that way and have to negotiate my survival with my neighbours/etc =)

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

IMHO we should all do dragons or drop the theme, as there are a lot of things that can munch a dragon(wyrms can destroy dragons), or have easier time getting access to multiple paths. If 90% of the players are using something that can be beaten by 10% of the players, it creates an un-even playing field.

ZeWanker April 13th, 2006 12:04 AM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

I'd like in... not sure what race... maybe Pan...

Morkilus April 13th, 2006 12:05 AM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

We had the same sort of thing going in Council of Wyrms, and it ended up only one person decided to be a non-wyrm out of 17. I doubt it will be a problem, but we shall see... as far as game balance is concerned, observe what happened when the will of the council turned against R'lyeh in CoW. I wouldn't like to be in the "dragonslayer"'s shoes or scales or whatever as the arrogant one who wants to wreck our RP'ing fun. Plus it will give us senators something fun to do besides bicker with one another. But if it ends up more than half non-dragons, I agree we will have to put the house-rule foot down just so we can have our theme.

I imagine the non-dragons will have to make a "coalition of the meek" in order to survive http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

I still haven't decided on a nation yet, but I still would like to play (as a dragon).

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

og, i felt the same way until a little while ago. if its technical problems i cant help but if its you cant figure out how then here it is: create an empty folder in your dom2 folder with the name of the game your playing, the host will send you the .trn file for your nation which you save to the game folder. you load up dominions and play whatever the game is called and then end your turn when your done. then you email the .2h file from the games folder to the host. (sorry if its just problems with your email or something)

Morkilus April 13th, 2006 01:19 PM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

I think this game will be relatively slow, OG. Are you worried that you'll bog us down? It sounds like you'd like a slower RPG type game anyway.

OG_Gleep April 13th, 2006 07:08 PM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

Due to some things I'd not like to get into, my memory is bad. I tried a PBEM game in Clash of Armies, and I just couldn't keep my turns straight and ended up stalling half my turns. Shovah you took over for me because of that.

I'm not going to get into any more PBEM games. Its not fair to the members of the game, and its not fair to those playing in Clash of Armies.

But I wish you guys luck. Sounds like fun.

I doubt it would make it easier but if all else fails I can host it. (Standard TCP/IP)

castigated April 14th, 2006 02:35 PM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

sure, we can probably set up a tcp/ip game....let me do the math real quick...24hr in a day, x 7 days (168) /3 = 68hr hosting schedule by tcp/ip?

i think it could work.

ZeWanker April 14th, 2006 03:48 PM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

or I can manual host every set number of day (that's an option right...)

Edit oh and 168/3 = 56...

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

TC please. And by the way, I advise the game be dragons only since that's the idea I had in mind when I suggested it. =)

Also 48 QH will be much better than 24 for this style of game I believe. People should be encouraged to post in a message board of sorts to encourage roleplay as that's the fun of being dragons. =)

On second thought, unique dragons might be to limiting

Morkilus April 15th, 2006 02:09 PM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

It would mean we could only have 11 dragons total, and the first signups would have a distinct advantage. In a long game, it's better to play what makes you happy I imagine. I'm waiting to pick a dragon/nation so I can play something odd. Though I'm leaning towards Jotunheim/Dracolich since it's a unique.

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

umm...kiss....it was going to be hosting less often than 48 hours...3x/week was the plan. so yeah.

also, i have 2 votes against non-dragons, and as far as i know, i'm the only one for non-dragons. anyone else want to vote? (non-dragons can't vote http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif)

Morkilus April 15th, 2006 02:14 PM

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

I don't mind non-dragons as long as they number less than the number of dragons. It can still be fun RP-wise, as interracial tension is one of the standbys of drama since forever... but we need a critical mass of Senators for this game to be fun. I figure we need at least 10 dragons for the game to be interesting. Ultimately, it's your decision cast.

I plan on playing a dragon, but, esp if we get alot of players, non-dragon would be cool.

dosnt bother me, i would also like to remind people to be wary of death matches because the sacrifice a little mage can ruin your day (i sent in a f1 sage ands got himed to blind zookos pretender in CoW, some-one sending in a shaman and cursing them would be bad too)

so i'm thinking of asking zewanker to put up a server tomorrow sometime, and hopefully have the first host thursday at midnight my (and zewanker's) time...which is GMT -5. we will probably either set it to host 3x per week, or sundays, tuesdays and thursdays at midnight, our time.

looks like we have 9 players, 8 of which are playing senators. any suggestions for a map?

tyrant, i don't know how to link things without html, but if you go to the mod forum, there's a thread in there called "dragon mod".

if anyone has any changes to be made to the rules, please say so quickly, as once the game starts, a council ruling will be required in order to change any of them.

I would like to run it on saephi, but do you want it with or without specials. This will determine what you can recruit from the border provinces.

shovah April 19th, 2006 01:39 PM

id prefer with specials but i guess its up to cast, anything that makes it more interesting is good imo (especially for a diplomacy heavy game like this)

Server is up. IP:port = 70.29.202.130:2350
IP is dynamic but it shouldn't change, if you think it has ping ravens-hawk.homelinux.com (actually if you want you can enter that as the IP)

My router is being a ***** so I mey need to reset it from time to time, however you should still be able to get through. If all else fails I'll bypass.

Re: The Senate of Dragon Country [sign up now!]

after running a few tests....i have come to the conclusion that with indy 9, there is a good possibility that we shoudl be able to hammer through the first 5-10 turns....

so here is what i propose...until turn 10, we leave it on 48hr quickhost, hopefully getting turns at least every 24 hours. after turn 10, though, switch to 3x/week non-quickhost. just so it's consistent with hosting times. (it would be hosting every 56 hours)

unless anyone can suggest something else, this is what we'll do.
