I have tried it, but I'm not that enthusiastic about it. I am not sure why, maybe because it seems somewhat shallow to me.

But I will try it some more in the next days to make up my mind.

*sigh*

It looks exactly like Heroes 3 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
Repeating the same things over and over again was how Might and Magic went down the toilet. I say Heroes IV was a step in the right direction.

I have had a chance to play a lot with the demo.
I think Nival had done a fine job with this game.
I will definitely buy it.

In truth I didn't like HOMM-IV and I kind of like it that Nival took many elements from the third title (which I think is one the best fantasy TBS).

I am against all games that regquire outrageous minimum requirements. IMO, it is just laziness on the makers parts not to allow for lower systems (and mine isn't that old!) to play. I mean, except for the graphics, nothing requiring that much power seems to be present in the game, so why require it? It is just plain lazy.

What are these excessive requirements of which you speak?

Windows 2000/XP, Pentium 1GHz, 512MB RAM

It's only the RAM that's killing me. Ouch.

RAM helps in many, many things, is cheap, and one of the easiest things to add into a computer. I'm not sure why they need that much RAM for the game, but I think adding some RAM is well worth it, especially if it allows you to play a game you'd probably like.

Looks like HOMM V will be much better then I expected.
The fact that it picks a lot of things from HOMM III is a good thing since HOMM III was best game in series. HOMM IV made a lot of nice things but had a lot of flaws as well (AI being one of those). Actually, I liked some changes HOMM IV introduced, like fightning heroes and different magic system but game felt like you play alone with bunch of monsters on the map with brain dead AI.
Graphics look great too and combat system in HOMM V insn't bad either (not very different from HOMM III but it has some important changes).

Yeah, this gonna be better then Heroes 3 even. The demo first campaign mission is hard, the AI is playing very well I must say. The game gonna be big fun in MP until Doms 3. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I remember reading in many forums opinions such as that "TBS is dead". I'm not saying that there is a TBS flood but consider the releases this year: Civ IV, GC-II, HOMM-V, SE-V, DOM-III. I also read somewhere that Diciples-III (renaissance)is in development. All of those are at least solid, well, maybe its the TBS renaissance http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I've spent some time with the demo now and it looks like it will be a great game.

I have to disagree with Tharivol - I don't think it looks exactly like HoMM3. Even if you discount taking it from 2D to 3D, changes in the magic and skills systems (from H3, anyway)make it noticeably different.

It does, of course, retain the flavor and feel of the Heroes series though. so - woohoO!

I purposefully avoided the beta due to reports of bugs and the whole Starforce debate. But with the release of the demo and the news that Ubi is dropping Starforce for this title means H5 is right at the top of my list. I already ordered Dom3, so between the two titles, it looks like my game time is pretty booked for a while. =)

I agree and things are looking good for 2006.

Civ IV is solid, after patches and a rough start.

I have the demo of HoMM V; I haven't played any of the other games in the series.

The game seems fine, there are a lot of choices and I can't seem to figure out the plot i.e. where to go after I capture the first city and how to rest/rejuvenate my units...

But what the heck, it is a demo.

Definitely 3 was the best of the series so far... we'll have to see if Heroes_V meets expectations.
