OT - Doom 3: am I missing something?

I bought Doom 3 a while back and loaded it as soon as I got home. I expected to get a louder, bloodier, more scary shootfest than the Doom 2 I came to love in years past.

Instead I got a boring 'story line' that required me to interact with characters and go here and there to pick up weapons and a PDA. I don't know what else the game involves, because I shut it off and have not played since.

What a disappointment! I hate single-player games where you interact with characters and have a 'story line' to follow.

I am generally not into shooters, but sometimes you are just in the mood to mindlessly kill stuff. That's what I expected Doom 3 to be! What a waste of money!

How do you like having to switch between the flash light and the gun? There is a mod out that locks the flash light to your guns. I hated the game myself and unistalled it after playing it for a bit.

I never got that far. I went somewhere to get my PDA and then went somewhere else to meet a guy about some equipment and then got frustrated and stopped playing.

I wonder what the heck the developers were thinking.

I don't know I am enjoying it. More survival horror then first person shooter killfest.

I finished the whole thing. I liked it although shortly after starting it I suddenly remebered that I hate having to fight level bosses http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif. I didn't find the last boss that hard though.

I got it for the xbox. Not a very interesting game unlike Half-Life 2.

You'd think that in the future you could mount a flashlite on a gun, right?

No, clearly in the future, lighting problems will be the most dangerous element in combat. Just ask Hollywood.

All that futuristic technology and people forget how to make a decent lightbulb.

There were several mods to correct the flashlight/suspense idea - one of which was a batsignal.

Fixing the flashlight problem won't fix the having-to-interact-with-NPCs problem.

I bought Doom 3 expecting it to be more of Doom 2, only with bigger explosions, scarier monsters and cooler guns.

I expected to be deposited into a level where I'd have to start shooting right away.

I don't care that they made the game the way they made it, but they should NOT have called it Doom 3.

As far as the flashlight thing is concerned, I wonder if anybody bothered to playtest the game. That's a design flaw so glaringly obvious...how could somebody at the company NOT see it???

Not worth starting a new thread, but if anyone is interested what the Death Star would look like, hovering above Cyrodiil...
