wikipedia entry is alive !

incredible, but after near-slumbering for years, the tWikipedia entry for dominions 2 is full of new life http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

A short description for each nation was added by Wikipedia User Nyda and others. Applause please !

Further enhanced. With the power of my mind. A few errors corrected.

Edit: Whoa. The original article makes mention of plenty of stuff that isn't clarified elsewhere, though. I'm not quite up to explaining the entire nation/Pretender design process at the moment, so if anyone feels like clarifying "scales", "dominion", et cetera, the entry could use it.

Still enriching the nation list...

Expect to have your article axed soon. It's quite subjective with sentences like:
The music is nice but can get old very quickly
The sound effects are useful,
Another notable feature of Dominions II is the rich atmosphere of the written descriptions for each unit, spell, artifact and nation. Unlike other games of this genre, Dominions is based on an impressive variety of traditional or historical myths - and not just Orcs & Elves.

Another questionable bit of information:
This nation is based of the Atlanteans of Greek mythology.
I can't recall ANY information about Atlantis in Greek myths. I think Platon (or someone else) mentioned it, but that's it.
(...)

Lots of biased opinions. Wikipedia ends with -pedia.

well, i started writing dom2-articles for other web sites and just recycled this bit. nobody cared so far but it is high time to replace those lines. Other stuff was not from me, but i think over time the wikipedia article will become more and more useful if more people show an interest in it.

I've always loved Lizardmen, Death magic, and Nature magic, that is why I cannot ever play another nation besides C'tis, the perfect combination... unless I have to... if it's taken.

Is T'ien Ch'i really considered the weakest race? I could have sworn Machaka had that spot.
See? I'm learning stuff already. Well done http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

machaka is incredibly well rounded, I have found - unless you want to use a bless strategy.

Ulm is usually considered weaker. Of course, if you also count themes as nations it gets more complicated...

Re: wikipedia entry is alive !

i would say Serpent Cult pythium is weakest, its only advanrage is blessable hydras and cataphracts but that limits its magic even more.

Eh? Cheap sacred researchers, Water/Nature magic (hey it could be something like, I don't know Fire/Earth and no randoms...? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif ), blessable hydras, acces to vineman spam...I don't know, they don't seem *that* weak to me. I can imagine that a group of the Serpent Priests spamming Bone Melter could ruin one's day...

EDIT: This might be just my lack of gaming experience speaking. I wouldn't mind if there was "Arch Serpent Priest" or something there, or maybe less costly hydras.

Re: wikipedia entry is alive !

Serpent Cult seem much weaker than they are, simply because they can't even begin to measure up to base Pythium. The same could probably be said of Return of the Raptors: it's underpowered, but seems even worse in comparison to its Caelum's national theme.

Then there's Barbarian Kings, which is the weakest theme of a relatively weak nation. I'm not sure it's possible for Barbarian Kings to appear even weaker than it actually is.

I love Machaka... except for their province defense. The main reason I stopped playing them was because of their province defense being extremely weak. I've lost provinces with 12PD to spells like call of the winds... (the little birds).

Re: wikipedia entry is alive !

I changed the T'ien Ch'i entry to say it's simply weak, rather than the weakest nation. I trust that this is uncontroversial...

It needed a section on starting a game and some more turn details, so I took a shot at an update. If you see anything which needs correction, have at it!

Acutally, this information is neither subjective, not based on some writers opinion, but on facts stated by the developers: They have based their nations on existing/historical ones and, especially where magic and magical creatures are concerned, well-documented myths and folk lore.

I even would move that info from being buried in the paragraph "special features" into "type of game" right after the mentioning of a "fantasy world": IMHO it makes Dominions very different from all those mainstream games.

It's not the content, it's the use of words like 'impressive' and 'rich'.
